Martin DCX2E Cutaway Rosewood Acoustic-Electric Guitar

(16 reviews)

Martin Guitars took the DC-X1RAE and reimagined it. The result is the DC-X2E. This Dreadnought-sized model features a cutaway body with a Sitka spruce top and figured high-pressure laminate (HPL) back and sides. Mother-of-pearl pattern inlay on the rosette and fingerboard lend a richness to the DC-X2E, making it as impressive to look at as it is to play. A Performing Artist neck, fingerboard, and bridge of select hardwood improve upon the sound transfer of this model. It is equipped with Fishman MX electronics and strung with Martin's Authentic Acoustic Lifespan 2.0 strings. With a soft gig bag featuring headstock, bridge, and endpin protectors, a durable water-repellent exterior, and foam padding, this model is ready to go anywhere.

After playing some Breedlove and Taylor guitars hundreds of dollars more than this model of Martin I can honestly say it's a winner hands down. The balance of tone unplugged and plugged in are amazing for it's price range. The action was a bit high for my liking so I sanded down the saddle after using a string height gauge and did the math for the compensation and then changed the strings to Martin Silk& Steel custom light gauge 11.5 on the high side and .47 on the low. It worked perfectly and the sound remained the same. I will say it has renewed my interest in playing the acoustic guitar songs I've been playing through my playing career.

GREAT Value!

I'm very pleased with this Martin DC-X2E guitar! But I also own a Martin X-series 12-string acoustic electric so I knew the quality, feel, playabilty would be great. You can buy cheaper guitars, but I believe the Martin X-series guitars to be an outstanding value and worth every penny! Oh, and the gig bag is great too!

Great guitar

Martin by Name

It's a Martin "name". An HPL guitar that doesn't sound any better than the Fender CD60SCE or Takamine GD10CE, 2 other guitars I own but for the price at $400 higher than the Fender and $300 above the Takamine. If you listen to all 3 at the same time blind folded, you will not be able to tell the difference. Sure, it's better construction, has the typical Martin look and acessories that all HPL guitars carry but lacks a Martin sound; if really there is one for the low end guitars. That's my opinion...!

Really impressed with sound
24 September 2020

I was looking for a guitar just to play at home, nothing expensive just good quality but I was really impressed with the sound, I was between this and a Taylor and the difference was huge just for $50 extra I got a good quality instrument and actually made me go back to gigs

SO very glad I bought this Martin!
10 November 2021

I was looking for an acoustic-electric with a cutout. I didn't want to modify my existing acoustic to add electronics and I've started playing higher on the neck. I thought long and hard about buying a guitar under $400 knowing it would probably be "good enough", but I have a Martin X-Series 12 string that I absolutely love after being disappointed with a cheaper guitar. I also weighed "country of origin". I am so glad I didn't settle for less! This Martin X-Series guitar was set up perfectly right out of the box. The narrow neck makes it a dream to play and the SOUND! Nice deep sustained tones playing unplugged, and then when plugged in it's just awesome! I LOVE the soft rich tones!

Sounds Great, Looks Great, Is Great.

Great guitar out of the box. quick tune and it sounds amazing. the action is fantastic and I had my doubts about the fishmen electronics being in the sound hole but I have to say... don't let that stop you. I plugged it in and turned up the volume, adjusted the eq slightly and it sounds amazing while being easy to access. plusit looks sharp not having a knob or panel sticking through the wood of the guitar. awesome price and for the cost you can't beat it. martin sound but affordable. (cause some of us gots kids)

Sounds really nice. A bit difficult to play.
2 March 2022

This Martin DC-X2E sounds nice and plays ok. Action was a little higher than I like but not too bad. Not a big fan of the very-wide neck. Sometimes the high E gets muted by my palm when reaching over the frets playing fingerstyle (lower area of the neck). So even with my fairly long fingers, having to stretch my fingers around the massive neck to avoid muting the high E gets tiresome quick. Basically, it's a bit difficult to play.In my opinion, it definitely does not play nearly as nice or easy as my Taylor 214ce or even my GS Mini. This Martin does sound great though. It's a great guitar overall.
