Given the size and weight of the Masterbuilt GS 1050, I chose to have a local and mobile repair company come to my house to perform the repairs. Once the repairs were completed, I submitted the invoice to Allstate Protection/Square Trade, they began disputing the invoice because I failed to take to a physical shop and wasn't able to produce the technician's physical diploma or technical certificate. It's not a regular practice for me. The repairman had great reviews and was confident about performing the repairs. I'm out almost $500 for the cost of the denied repair and cost of the extended warranty. The grill is back in working condition. I just ask that you do better on providing the necessary resources for people needing repairs and having it follow the guidelines provided in extended warranties.

I would expect at least 1-2 years out of them. The hopper doors and seals look good. All of the pressure switches are in good shape. Wiring appears to be in good shape as well. Wire insulation seems to be well done (no pun intended) and the wires have held up to long smokes and fast, high temp sears.I can say that I would recommend the grill with the caveat of making sure you have a good WiFi network available wherever your grill will reside.

One of the switches has started to act erratically, intermittently starting and stopping the fan mid-cook so the temperature control has become highly unpredictable, fluctuating by 200°F and more. Adding to my concerns, the firebox grill, which plays a crucial role in shielding the fan from hot charcoal, has unexpectedly disintegrated. While I encountered firebox wall disintegration a few months after purchasing the grill, I accepted Masterbuilt's assurance that it was not a significant concern. However, the fact that the firebox grill has now suffered the same fate within just two years is disheartening.Nevertheless, it's important to emphasize that my affinity for this grill remains unwavering. It has proven to be a versatile cooking tool, allowing me to create delectable dishes ranging from slow-cooked delicacies to perfectly cooked pizzas. The key, of course, lies in the grill's optimal functionality, which, when achieved, consistently delivers exceptional results.

I've had my 1050 for 2 years now and when this smoker finally gives up the ghost I will not buy another Masterbuilt product. I really had high expectations for this smoker and feel like Masterbuilt really fell short in a number of areas. As far as positives go, it is fairly easy to use and turns out some fantastic food. And the negatives:-Poor build quality. Grease catch tray was poorly riveted, one corner fell off and made a mess everywhere. The lower portion of the unit has leaked grease out from day 1. I'm fully expecting to be replacing parts of the smoker in the next few years as they appear to rust very easily unless they are cleaned spotless after each use.-Lacks wire securement to the control panel. I'm fully expecting to be replacing parts of the smoker in the next few years as they appear to rust very easily unless they are cleaned spotless after each use.-Lacks wire securement to the control panel. One accidental tug on the cord rendered the machine useless. I was fortunate enough that I'm capable of soldering small parts and that there was no expensive damage to the circuit board or I would have been out $100 to replace it. Luckily my reliable, 15 year old puck smoker saved the day when my Masterbuilt was dead.-Most infuriating of all - the apps. GARBAGE! The ability to control the machine remotely was a significant factor in my decision to purchase this smoker, and Masterbuilt's inability to provide customers with a reliable, functional app is beyond ridiculous. I can connect via the Classic app, but it is buggy, often disconnecting, sometimes not updating probe temperature. And at times it is just beeping frequently for no real reason. Presently, I can't adjust the temperature. I finally thought I'd give the new app a try since the Classic app suggested it to "experience the latest features for your Gravity Series Product". Despite going through the process of connecting the device 3 times and the app saying the device is connected, there's no device for me to control, it just goes back to the add a device screen. I guess the "newest features" is a totally useless app? Well done! It really says a lot that going on 2 years of Masterbuilt having dismal app reviews that they've seemingly made no effort to improve.I don't totally hate this smoker, but my opinion it is a total failure at the retail price point. It has a ton of potential, but Masterbuilt has fallen well short in delivering a fully functional, reliable, quality product.

Grill is great, Cust Service, Not so much...

I purchased the grill through Amazon and received it without an issue. During assembly, I realized that the lid was scratched. There was no damage to the box nor to the packing styrofoam which would indicate that the damage occurred prior to leaving the facility. (see photos attached). There was also with the grill having the wrong grease drip pan that came with the unit and would not fit properly.I looked for a customer service number and found only a way to make a claim online to which they reply with an email. There does not appear to be a way to speak with a real person to voice an issue. The response was quick but unfortunately not what I wanted to hear after spending almost a thousand dollars for a new grill/smoker. There does not appear to be a way to speak with a real person to voice an issue. The response was quick but unfortunately not what I wanted to hear after spending almost a thousand dollars for a new grill/smoker. I was informed that although the lid was scratched,"I'm sorry that you are having issues with your unit. I do show the scratches on the unit, however they will not effect the use of the unit. I can offer you a grill cover. I can also send you a Bottom Tray Assembly Kit. Please advise how you would like to proceed." (quote cut/pasted from the reply email)I replied confirming their stance on the non-replacement of the lid and thanked them for the offer of the cover and I informed them that I had already purchased a cover because maintaining the appearance of a nearly thousand dollar piece of equipment is important to mean again requested that they reconsider replacing the lid as a courtesy since it appeared to be damaged prior to shipping from the plant. Once again I was disappointed with the response, "Thanks for the feedback. I can ship the Bottom Tray for you. Unfortunately the scratches will not affect the use of your unit. Please advise how you would like to proceed." (quote again cut/pasted from the reply email)As stated in the title. the unit appears to be very well built and very well designed but I would like to keep it that was for as long as possible and with some pretty significant scratches on the lid, even keeping covered when not in use, eventually corrosion will occur in the area causing the unit to deteriorate. The cover is available for purchase on the website for $169 and I'm sure the cost to produce is well below that figure. I don't believe my request to have the one that showed up damaged replaced is unreasonable to help my investment looking nice as well as performing good. After researching the product and buying what appeared the best I could get for the investment, I must say I'm disappointed with the lack of effort to stand behind the product that they produce. While I am thankful for the replacement of the incorrect grease tray and the offer of the cover, they fell far short of my expectations of good customer service.

Major safety issue!

We bought this grill while having a major remodel and recently assembled and tested the grill. Set the DigitalFan to 200 degrees. The app and the digital readout continued to register only the ambient temperature of 100 degrees. The grill continued to heat to an excessively high temp far exceeding the available register on the gauge. Despite all attempts to rectify the situation, the grill became so hot while troubleshooting, the back burned, the paint peeled off, and something started to melt underneath. We will not be using the grill again and are sitting with a nearly $1000 piece of metal that is too dangerous to turn on. A disappointment as we are having a large gathering where we were supposed to grill out this weekend. The pictures show the burned back after only being turned on one time. A call or response from Masterbuilt would be appreciated.

Here's the thing - the first impression of overall product quality is when you're assembling the grill, and the manufacturing quality is poor. Once warmed up, it responds to a temperature increase quickly, in a minute or two. For example, when you want to increase from 225F to 350F to add a crispy finish to smoked wings. The panel controls are straightforward and the wireless connectivity to a smartphone app seems to work well. The app is a bit quirky and has 10 or more seconds of latency but seems to work.

I’ll admit, this smoker came at a great price with some free add ons and all these allegedly great reviews made me pull the trigger. The smoker is built with some extremely cheap components like the temp probes, circuit board, and door hatches that easily break. Which would be fine but customer support for the product is nearly non existent. Do a quick search on this and you’ll see this is a common complaint. When I ordered my grill, it was split shipped from the charcoal and the chicken attachment which inexplicably took over 60 days to ship which customer service didn’t respond to multiple emails asking for updates.I’m still figuring out a solution for better temp monitoring bc the one built in isn’t accurate and the actual tel inside runs wayyyy lower than ... MoreI’ll admit, this smoker came at a great price with some free add ons and all these allegedly great reviews made me pull the trigger. When I ordered my grill, it was split shipped from the charcoal and the chicken attachment which inexplicably took over 60 days to ship which customer service didn’t respond to multiple emails asking for updates.I’m still figuring out a solution for better temp monitoring bc the one built in isn’t accurate and the actual tel inside runs wayyyy lower than actual, which has resulted in undercooking. The design of the smoker requires some modification around the grease trap or else grease fires are extremely common. Lastly, the smoker can theoretically get up to 700 degrees as advertised, however the heat is all indirect and blown in therefore it’s not a great product for grilling, so now I’m considering getting an additional grill which defeats the entire cost savings of this. If there were any way to reasonably return this at this point, I would but I already spent 2+ hours building the grill, threw away the packaging, and I’m certain that the non existent customer service won’t be of any help here.If you want a very affordable charcoal fed smoker and are willing to put a lot of work into this, I guess this can be the right product for you otherwise. Maybe you can come by mine since I’ve been so disappointed in it.

Unhappy Customer

After purchasing the grill I had an issue assembling the grill, with a defective part in the main body of the grill. The defect didn't show up until 90% of the grill was assembled. I had to go back and forth with Masterbuilt but they did agree to replace the body of the unit after nothing else would work. It felt like they begrudgingly agreed to it when I had no way to screw the manifold down to the body of the grill. So fast forward to my disassembling the unit, only to reassemble with the new part. Note: assembling is a time-consuming process and I had to do it twice. Then I use the grill for the first time. The temp sensor must have been defective because the grill overheated in 15 minutes and essentially melted. The app was telling me the unit was not heating. The temp sensor must have been defective because the grill overheated in 15 minutes and essentially melted. The app was telling me the unit was not heating. I walked away for about 10 minutes and it overheated. I returned the unit to the retailer, no problem, however I had purchased the add-on griddle from Masterbuilt directly. I tried to ship the griddle back to Masterbuilt and the shipper wanted almost as much to ship it back. I contacted Masterbuilt and asked if they would be willing to offer me their cost for shipping since they get a much better shipping rate than I will. They refused - saying "our policy...blah, blah, blah". What would it hurt them to offer me a shipping rate higher than their cost yet lower than my cost? But no. My advice is to stay away from this product and this company. Btw, their response times were about a week for each contact point. Unacceptable.

Waste of time and money!! Buy a different brand!

After much research and analysis I came to the conclusion that this is a great idea. It is, it really is. Got it in 2020. And the concept is great. Unfortunately you have a company like MasterBuilt that uses sub par materials and components that are super cheap and break or fail pretty quickly. When I first got my 560 it was great. I modified the firebox by sticking thicker steel on the inside walls because this was a problem that the YouTubers were complaining about, customized the coal grate to hold the coals better and optimize them(another YouTubers problem). It was working like a champ. Fast forward to about 8 months ago and I got screwed because the fan just stopped working in the middle of a cook and ruined my butts that I had going. It was working like a champ. Fast forward to about 8 months ago and I got screwed because the fan just stopped working in the middle of a cook and ruined my butts that I had going. So 18ish lbs of meat ruined once. Since then it has decided to not work or work depending on how it feels that day. Pure waste of time and money. Customer service has been a joke. I just want to cook food and enjoy it, not loose sleep wondering if the fan is gonna stop or go crazy and catch the whole thing on fire which has also happened. I feel cheated and used. Got me for $500 but I will never purchase another product from you. Buyer beware get a different brand. I received this as a gift for Father’s Day and let me tell you, my wife is more mad than I am because we aren’t rich and $500 is a chunk of change for us. I cannot stress enough that this is a great concept, especially if they used quality materials. But MasterBuilt missed the mark on this one and I’m out a grill/smoker and $500. So thanks MasterBuilt!!
