Assegai 29 X 2.50 Exo Tr Fold 60Tpi: World Cup Champion Greg Minnaar's signature tyre. The Maxxis Assegai tire is named after the iron-tipped spear used by the Zulu people of South Africa. Greg Minnaar, a native of South Africa, thought it was a fitting name for a tire ready to do battle on the mountain. The tall knobs punch through dust and loam to find traction, but also offer support and confidence on wet roots and rocks. While other tires excel only in certain conditions, the new Maxxis Assegai is built to go fast everywhere. EXO An extremely cut-resistant and abrasion-resistant material added to the sidewalls of select mountain tires. This densely woven fabric is also lightweight and highly flexible, ensuring that the performance of the tire remains unaffected. 3C MaxxTerra An intermediate compound configuration used in select mountain tires. 3C Maxx-Terra is softer and offers more traction than 3C MaxxSpeed, yet provides better treadwear and less rolling resistance than MaxxGrip.

Moving to the Maxxis Assegai I immediately noticed an increase in traction going down the trails. The difference was so significant it is hard to describe! I continued to ride the Assegai for several more months of similar riding and I still have enough tire tread left to likely last me another few months of hard riding this year. For me there is no other tire that performs like this one and is well worth your hard earned dollars.

Yesterday I went for a ride at the local trail. I pumped up my tyres to about 25 psi both front and back set up tubeless. After going through a rock garden at the end of my ride suddenly I noticed the tyre started to loose air. After stopping and inspecting the true, there was an obvious defect near the bead with a longitudinal split. I am not sure about this type at all. I have heard good things in the past, but I thought tubeless ready tyres were supposed to prevent flats! I had to walk all the way back to the parking lot the rest of the way. I am not sure I could spend 90$ on a replacement that could do the same thing in the future.

My Ibis Ripmo AF came with Assegai EXO+'s front and rear and they have been a great confidence booster for me. As a 70 year old who just started mountain biking 18 months ago I was fearful of coming upon loose gravel in the middle of a fast corner leading me sometimes to react inappropriately increasing the chance of a skid out. After switching to the Ripmo with Assegai's I now can relax in those loose gravel corners knowing that my Assegai's will "lock up". I just ordered a hard tail which comes with different tires that will come off before leaving the shop to be replaced with Assegai's. I would rather have max cornering grip over a fast roller!

Got Grip?
4 June 2022

Want grip? Get this tire. Period. Now to be more specific, I run this as a front tire only on my enduro bike, especially in the SoCal summer when the trails are all blown out and loose. It works just as well in good conditions and in a park, but in those situations I prefer the DHF or even the Dissector up front. The one thing with the Assegai is sometimes there is too much grip at every lean angle. Where the DHF has an open center channel that forces you to lean the bike over past that floating zone and hook up on the edge knobs, the Assegai never has that floating feeling. It just grips at every lean angle. So if you get lazy, you can find yourself not leaning the bike over far enough to corner because you feel like you have grip everywhere. Then you have to slow down in the corner because you're not leaned over far enough, where the DHF kind of forces you to lean it like you mean it. As long as you're on top of your game, you're good. Or if you just want a tire that grips, no questions asked, to build your confidence, then get this! But I would never think of running it on the rear.

Great performing tire
23 February 2023

I haven't ridden a ton of tires, but I feel like I have ridden enough to know that this is the grippiest most confidence inspiring tire I have used. I have it as a front tire and I literally have no issues with it's performance.I haven't had any issues mounting it seating the bead.Personally think they cost too much but it is a great tire.

Grippiest tire EVER
20 August 2021

Previous front tires were DHF 3C Exo 2.5" and Continental Der Baron 2.5". Somewhat worse rolling resistance then DHF, slightly better then Der Baron. What you gain is far better cornering then DHF and velcro type grip over nearly any conditions. Far better grip over DHF over roots and rocks (wet or dry). Der Baron falls between these two tires for grip. This tire does collect mud a bit more then DHF but not too bad (Der Baron worse for mud collection). Overall an incredible front tire for ultimate grip over sketchy surfaces and/or at high speed. You'll almost never get kicked around anymore and will roll right over those big rocks and roots now :)

The traction is unparalleled to any other tire that I have ridden, unless you enjoy going parallel then that may be a bit too extreme for any tire. I enjoy ripping the trail and playing in the mud. There hasn't been any trail, rock, dirt, sand, mud or asphalt that this tire doesn't perform well on. I leave an impression wherever I ride 😉The Double Down componentry of the 2x120 tpi sidewall is asinine! The Maxgrip allows for plenty of traction and gumminess on the trail that even my CLIF BLOKS have a bit of chewy competition to look forward to.You can ride until your heart is dialog satisfied with the performance of your tire and the confidence it inspires in the climates you throw at it. Enjoy more of the season with less worry, and choose MAXXIS ASSEGAI 👊🏼🤙🏼

This tire has an amazing amount of grip, the rolling resistance is slightly decreased versus other tires like Maxxis DHF or High Roller. I have had this on the rear of my enduro 20' Nukeproof Mega 29 for a few races and the grip around corners, over rocky terrain, and sloppy slippy sections was without a problem. I have it now on my downhill Banshee Darkside on front, and it steers true at speed, takes corners high and fast, and is durable as I have been riding a few times a month, 8-10 rounds per outing. At speed, it takes corners at Hugh angle without slipping or sliding out as the side tread holds very well. Braking is very efficient, as I have had tested this with peeps cutting me off and having to make massively rapid stops. I run the double down, super durable and whole running low PSI, handles very well, especially when paired with Cushcore, even down to 18 over heavy rock tech with no issues. Haven't had a burp yet. This is great for front enduro, or front or rear downhill, if you want less rolling resistance, look to DHF/DHR or Michelin Wild Enduro. But if you got better legs than myself or going main downhill, these are the fit.

What can I say -- the front end grip is fantastic.
2 July 2022

Moved to front range, CO and have struggled with front end grip with other tires. I finally decided to listen to the recommendation of my LBS and use the Assegai on the front, and the results are very, very good. Stability mid-corner is much improved. They seem to hold their line well without a whole lot of squirm or wandering that I've seen in other tires. Inspires confidence, even for a relatively slow rider like me.

Wrong weight Backcountry/CC...

The title of the tire here says "Wide Tire 3C Maxxterra EXO." If this is that tire, its claimed weight is 1,082.If it is a Double Down tire, it's not titled that way. The 3C-TR-DD tire weighs 1,395 claimed. So, the titles are wrong and the claimed weights are incorrect. But which tire are you selling in the ad? Is that the DD tire or the EXO tire, which is not DD?
