Meadow (Board Game)

$41.25

(63 reviews)

Meadow is an engaging set collection game with over two hundred unique cards containing hand-painted watercolor illustrations. In the game, players take the role of explorers competing for the title of the most skilled nature observer. To win, they collect cards with the most valuable species, landscapes, and discoveries. Their journey is led by passion, a curiosity of the world, an inquiring mind, and a desire to discover the mysteries of nature. The competition continues at the bonfire where the players race to fulfill the goals of their adventures. In this medium-weight board game for 1-4 players, you take turns placing path tokens on one of the two boards. Placing a token on the main board allows the player to get cards, but playing them requires meeting certain requirements. Playing a token on the bonfire board activates special actions (which helps to implement a chosen strategy) and gives the opportunity to achieve goals that provide additional points. Throughout the game, players collect cards in their meadow and surroundings area. At the end, the player with the most points on cards and on the bonfire board wins.

Arrived in time before the end of the school holidays, and our 10 year old granddaughter loves it. She plays Wingspan and Splendor with us, and this is like a combination of the two. She uses the card index and we have learnt new information, plus the cards are lovely. As always, great service from Game Kings.Since Christmas my husband and I have also been really enjoying Scythe and Viticulture with the Tuscany expansion. Great Christmas Game Kings. Thanks!

Absolutely beautiful game, the art is exceptional which is why I got it but was disappointed in the game play. I do find it boring compared to other games I play. I have since purchased Cascadia which is now a firm favourite even though it is not as beautiful.

An extremely beautiful game which is very enjoyable for a relaxing but sufficiently analytical experience. I find it quite addictive because it's just good fun to build your meadow and see the cards come off the decks into the market. The box/insert is spacious and makes the game fast to set up. It comes with 5 sealed envelopes containing additional cards to add to the game when you achieve certain challenges (mostly real-life) or reach certain dates (e.g. first day of Spring) which is a really nice touch. It's often criticized for being a bit too long for the lack of deep complexity and I do agree somewhat, but I still find it really enjoyable.A negative we have found is that the market is very slow to change, especially at low player counts, meaning certain ... MoreAn extremely beautiful game which is very enjoyable for a relaxing but sufficiently analytical experience. There are non-official variants to help with this, but I am hoping the upcoming expansion will address this.Has a solo mode which I have not tried. Have not heard amazing things about it, but reading through the rules it looks like it would simulate a multiplayer game rather well.Am looking forward to what the expansion ("Meadow: Downstream") will bring to the table.

A solo-review of Meadow
17 April 2023

This is a beautiful game. The insert makes setup easy and box to table to box is about 45 minutes. Perfect for a mid-week game to wind down the day. The solo opponent is easy to run, though shuffling the tiles can be a little tedious. It's largely a beat your own score, though you do also have to beat the solo opponent which collects cards from the tableau. There's some thinking ahead to be done to plan out when to grab a card to ensure the bot doesn't get it first, but largely it isn't difficult to outscore it. The game also takes up a lot of space on the table. It will stay in the rotation of 30-90 minute weekday games.

Beautiful artwork & great gameplay

Choose cards from the tableau to add to your meadow. Use the icons on the beautifully illustrated cards to build your meadow’s ecosystem. But using an icon covers it up & you lose it so timing is very important. Landscape tiles adds extra scoring opportunities & more beautiful illustrations. Lots of fun & tough decisions in this great game.

Beautiful game that's relaxing to play
6 August 2021

I've now had the opportunity to play Meadow. It's absolutely gorgeous- it has a reasonable amount of tactical depth with how the cards build off of each other, and I find it to be a compelling and relaxing experience. It's competitive but not cutthroat- it matters what your opponent is doing but it's not in your face. The play reminds me a bit of Everdell, how you are competing for the same cards in your tableau and how cards build off of each other, but Meadow is a bit lighter since you don't have to manage resources the same way.I would highly recommend for a

Charming Game is like a Walk in a, well... Meadow!
22 March 2022

This game is incredibly charming and yet challenging enough to keep you coming back! I bought this game without ever having played it and based my decision on reviews and images alone. The artwork is phenomenal as everyone says and the gameplay itself is even better than what others have reviewed. The solo-variant is just as engaging and immersive as the multiplayer version. All components are well made (now I just need to get sleeves for the cards). This is definitely a game I (and my partner) will continue to play for years to come. Whether you are looking for an escape on a cold winter's evening when you can only dream about outdoor activities or you are looking for a tableau-building competitive card game, Meadow has got you covered!

Gorgeous art, fun game
29 March 2022

What a fun and beautiful game. I love the concept of different elements of our natural world and the art on it is absolutely gorgeous. The game itself is fun and has lots of different components that make it fun enough to replay. It does take a little bit of time to learn - it's not like Monopoly in terms of complexity - but it's also not so complex that your average person would be confused learning it. The game accommodates up to 4 players and includes a single player mode as well.

Meadow is obviously amazingly beautiful. It's fairly thinky, while remaining easy to learn. I have only played this solo so far, so it's been a pleasant little puzzle. But, I could see it being frustrating multi player with more people blocking spaces you need to go, scarfing up the cards you need or getting stuck when the cards you need just don't turn up.

Such a beautiful game and great gameplay
28 March 2022

We have played this with 2 and 3 player and the scores are so close every time. A couple times it’s only a point or two. Well balanced with amazing artwork this has quickly become one we’ll play a few times in a row. Also includes an index of the cards that give a very bit of information about the birds and animals. Would play anytime I’m asked.
