Medela Silicone Breast Milk Collector

Great to have on one side while nursing bub, catches a lot that would otherwise go to waste. The lanyard is awesome to help keep it from falling however can be a bi fiddly to get off with the lanyard clip. Otherwise I love it The Medela Silicone Breast Milk Collector is a must-have for breastfeeding! I love that I can use this product to collect milk from let-down whilst feeding bub on the other side. Build Your Stash With Zero Effort

Silicone breast milk collectors are a revelation for breastfeeding--I cannot believe how much milk you can passively collect and store using these things! If you haven't used one, you simply attach it to the breast your baby is not eating from, and it creates a gentle suction which draws out the milk from your letdown and additional milk as your baby nurses. Using this collector, I was able to collect 1-2 ounces of additional milk per feeding without doing anything, which is great for building my freezer stash. There are other brands out there that have a version of the same thing, and The Medela one is new to the market, but I think the Medela collector works as well as those other brands. This product is made of quality material, however there are flaws in th e design. If you use this, be ready to cry over spilled milk. 1) The size of this product is tiny. It holds less than the Haakaa manual breast pump volumetrically. So more discrete, but more dumping need. 2) The included neck strap is required for use. The breast flange is smooth in design and doesn’t have the ribbed collar that the Haakaa does. This means the suction on this product doesn’t exist and makes it constantly fall off. So if used in the shower to catch your let down in a warmer environment, it will constantly fall off. Easy-clean and Lots of Features to Prevent Spills

I received this Medela Breastmilk Collector as a part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel in exchange for my honest review. Upon opening the package, I was exited to see many features to help prevent spilling milk. The stopper is nice to take in and out as needed. The silicone lid is even more secure than the stopper and great if you want to store the whole pump in the fridge. The neck strap is a feature I have not seen on silicone pumps in the past. It hooks to a loop built in to the silicone and the strap can be easily adjusted to the exact length you need. While this feature was interesting, usually I don’t take the time to hook it up, as I find it gets in the way. I am an over producer and tend to fill the pump and have to pour it out part-way through and found dealing with the strap a hassle. If you are using this only as a milk catcher for a couple of ounces, I could see this strap being more beneficial. During the few times I did use it, when I lost suction, it did hold the pump up and upright enough to keep from completely spilling, although it did not completely eliminate some minor splashing. My favorite feature of all is the suction base. For the life of me, I could never understand why other manufacturers ever made a one piece pump similar to this and made it have a roundish, slightly flattened base with no suction. That is just asking for it to be knocked over, which I have done many many times. Not only devastating to lose your precious liquid gold but also creates a sticky milk mess on your table, carpet, sofa, etc. The suction base on this is fantastic and sticks quite well to every flat/hard surface I have tried. The pump itself is very similar in design and feel to other silicone pumps I have used, although this one feels slightly more rigid or thicker material. I think because of the sturdier silicone, it seems to have a higher suction when properly attached to the breast. This can be a good thing if you want to pull as much milk out as quickly as possible, but if you have sensitive nipples or breasts, it can make them a little sore. Overall, I really like this pump and the many features it offers at an affordable price. To get the same features on items of a similar brand, the price goes up for each feature added to the base product. This is absolutely a better value than others I have used. As long as you are ok with a more aggressive suction, I whole-heartedly recommend this product. I use mine multiple times per day. Thank you Stellar, for allowing me to test this product!

I was so thrilled to give this one a try because I’ve tried 4 other brands of the silicone Breastmilk collectors and none of them have impressed me. Sure they’ve all “worked”, but not in a way that I’d hope for. To start - I love that this one has a suction cup bottom. I suction it to the opposite side and with every letdown (when I would usually fill up multiple nursing pads and burp cloths with milk that streams out) it just goes straight into the collector and then I have a whole bottle to fill for my baby for the next feeding. Good but not the best

I was given this breastfeeding accessory to try as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel. I've tried both this and another brand of milk collector while breastfeeding, and this one has some nice features but doesn't quite make it to the top of the pack. I really like the stopper, lid, and suction cup bottom features of this collector. They're all really handy for preventing spills and storing milk directly in the fridge (for short periods of time) after collecting. The lanyard / neck strap feature is a bit of a challenge, as my 3mo loves to grab onto anything in reach and pull as hard as she can, which in turn makes it a bit of a liability. I definitely recommend using a breastmilk collector in general, and finding the one that works for you. Overall, I'd say this one has some great features but maybe isn't the best version of this type of breastfeeding tool that I've used.

After 2 babies and 3 different brands/types of hands free breast milk collectors, the Medela design is by far the best. When we received it my husband made the mistake of stating “it looks just like the others”. It is far from it! The reservoir for the milk is slimmer, which makes it easier to clean the sides after the milk has separated and the fatty portions leave residue. I am guilty of forgetting I have left milk in the fridge for days so this saves me a lot of time!The Medela breast milk collector also keeps a suction regardless of the size of my breast. No matter the size or situation, Medela has designed this breast feeding accessory to easily suction and keep my milk coming!All of the accessories that it comes with are incredibly handy. I have been known to cry over spilt milk a time or two, but Medela included multiple “milk safety” features! As babies get older the move a lot more, and my son loves to kick and play with his feet when he starts to get a full tummy creating a perfect storm for an entire 3oz full collector to be kicked off. The lanyard mitigates the risk of losing all my extra milk and having to scrub the carpets!Another important suction point - the secure suction base. You don’t have to try to make it suction - it just stays put as soon as you put it on the counter! Add the stopper and lid to it and again, it has saved me from spilling all the precious liquid.The only downfall to this silicone breast milk collector is that I am not able to nurse in public while using it without a breast feeding cover. I use mainly breast feeding friendly shirts but in order to not have it show I would need to use a cover as well. That works alright when a baby is small and doesn’t care about being covered, but my 10 month old would not enjoy that - especially in the heat of the summer!I have collected so much milk using this silicone breast milk collector that I do not have to use an actual pump anymore! It is so easy to use, quiet, and compact that I can stick it in my diaper bag to take with me! And once it is full, I can put the stopper and lid on, place it right back in my diaper bag to take home! Thank you to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for the Medela breast milk collector that is not at all like others! They allowed me to test and keep it as my go to breast feeding accessory throughout my breastfeeding journey with my son as well as all my (hopefully) future babies!!

I attached it to the opposite breast I’m feeding on and collect my letdown, typically getting 1-2oz when I use it.The silicone of the collector makes it very easy to clean so it’s ready to go for the next session.The two things I didn’t care for on this collector was the lanyard and the thickness of the silicone.The lanyard tended to get in the way when I was trying to apply the collector and the position of the loop to hook it on to made it so the rim of the collector doesn’t stay back on its own which typically helps when applying it with one hand, which is usually how I’m using mine since I have a baby on the other side.The thickness of the silicone made the collector a little heavy and bulky and I think also added to the rim not staying back on its own while trying to apply one handed.Overall this Medela Silicone Breastmilk Collector works very well in helping me build my freezer milk supply and helps give me some added security knowing it securely suctioned to my nightstand and won’t accidentally get knocked over.

Skeptic Turned Believer

I am the mom of five and have been breastfeeding for the better part of 8 years. I have never used a product like this before, but let me tell you, this collector gets every last drop of precious milk! I was skeptical if it would work for me because I tandem nurse my babies, but it really works and is simple to use. My favorite features, besides the one piece silicon collector itself, are the the suction base and the stopper. I know that my collected milk is safe from a dreaded spill with these two layers of protection. The lid is a great idea as an extra layer to keep milk in and germs out, but I had trouble getting it to stay on. As I mentioned above, my babies are 9 months old and interested in everything! That being said, this collector could definitely be hands-free for someone with a younger baby, but for me, I had to hold it with one hand to keep my babies from kicking it off. The lanyard is a fine feature but it didn’t really do anything for me. I would love to see the collector come with a travel bag as one of the accessories because it is so adaptive to travel. Overall, the Medela Breastmilk Collector works well and I would definitely recommend it to other moms, especially with a newborn baby.

Their collector comes with a lanyard, suction bottom, breast milk stopper, and a lid. Others only come with a lid. The lanyard I felt was unnecessary. I didn’t really feel the need for it and then when the collector came off it was annoying to have to take the lanyard off before being able to set it down. However it’s super easy to take off and the rest of the features are so helpful!! The suction bottom was genius. I have knocked over other collectors before and watched all that precious milk go everywhere. This suction stops that from happening. The milk stopper was also reassuring to place in there, just in case. I also felt comfortable placing it in the fridge with the stopper. The lid was a little hard to get on, but with the stopper I wasn’t as concerned.The collector is a little confusing to start with. You have to find the right angle so baby doesn’t knock it off and find the right suction so it doesn’t fall of. I do think there is a fair amount of trial and error getting it adjusted, but it’s so easy and mindless once it’s on. Once you have it placed correctly you don’t have to think about it again until you take it off. Also there isn’t active pulling on the nipple, so it’s more comfortable.I would 100% recommend any breastfeeding mom get a milk collector and I now will recommend the Medela one because of it’s added features.
