Previously I have used a more elaborate and substantial medela pump back when I had my first baby. It has worked great and held up well and I can see that the Medela swing is made with the same quality. One of the things I loved the most was that many of the essential items have not changed, like the bottles and caps so they are interchangeable with the existing Medela bottles and caps that I already have so I wouldn’t have to replace all of those. If I have to go into work for any reason, because I am not pulling long days at the office, I can grab the swing pump and it’s compact and easy to take from one place to the other without feeling bulky and cumbersome. At first glance I thought the pumping components were a little complex for cleaning and putting together, but after the first time it was easy and I haven’t had any issues. The only complaint I have is the pumping station, while compact, it does still generate quite a bit of noise so I feel like it’s not necessarily something that I could do discreetly. I still feel like I need to be aware of who I may be on the phone with if I’m pumping while working! The swing pump came with a really cute backpack and I love all of the compartments and features. It’s easy to take with me and doesn’t scream pumping bag which I appreciate. Overall, I really enjoyed the new swing pump and it’s a great option for a more compact pump but without compromising the strength of pumping and quality of products. I would definitely recommend. I received this product as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel.

I bought the pump and loved it initially. The convenience/size/ low noise…everything! After couple months of using it, I started having battery issues where the pump wouldn’t charge. I could only use it if it was plugged in. Super inconvenient when you buy a portable pump for your needs. I contacted Medela and they sent a replacement (looked like a refurbished) pump right away. Month into the “new” pump and already this pump has issues. The pump runs for barely seconds and stops. Not sure it’s the battery or the pump. I’m super aggravated because I don’t have a pump when I need to pump and hate I choose this pump as my upgrade with insurance. I’m not even sure if I somehow got the two bad pumps or if this is just a bad product. But would I recommend this pump to ... MoreI bought the pump and loved it initially. I was given the opportunity to try out the Medela Swing Maxi double electric breast pump, and all-in-all I thought it was a really good pump! The breast shield was really comfortable and I love that it came in my size straight out of the box, which doesn't ways happen. I also thought it was pretty quick; it was about 15-20 minutes to empty me. I also really liked the vibration that accompanied the suction. My three favorite things about the pump are:1. You are pumping straight into the bottle so you're not transferring the milk and risking spills or losing precious drops of liquid gold.2. The pump was super easy to clean, as the parts are really simple, making the cleaning process really fast and easy.3. My favorite part of the pump was that once it was on there ... I could bend over and not worry about spills or leaks. The biggest con is that for a pump that is advertised as something really portable, it still requires a pumping bra and that is not discreet. So while you might be able to be away from the wall, you can't be sitting at your desk at work. You still need to be at some place private. Therefore, it's great at home where you don't really care about being covered up but it’s not a truly portable solution for me. I also felt the pump itself was a little bulky but I figured out a way to hook it to my belt loop. All things considered, I really like the pump I will definitely keep using it as a great weekend or secondary pump. Thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for having me the opportunity to try this breast pump!

I was given this breast pump to try as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel and was excited to test out a new pump with my second child. I used other Medela pumps - the Symphony and Pump in Style - for 18 months with my first and since my two month old was born. My biggest challenge has always been the need to plug in the pump and be tethered to the wall, so I was very excited to test out this pump. Especially now that I have two little ones, it's hard to give them both what they need when I'm stuck in one spot. The pump is very user-friendly and I was able to get it up and running for the first time in less than a minute. Especially now that I have two little ones, it's hard to give them both what they need when I'm stuck in one spot. The pump is very user-friendly and I was able to get it up and running for the first time in less than a minute. It can be used hands-free but only with a pumping bra - a must-have accessory for any double electric pump. I was most excited about having more freedom and this pump generally delivered. The motor itself is a bit larger than most of my pockets and I haven't yet found a great way to attach it to myself for full freedom of movement - I usually end up holding it. Still, being able to walk around and do what I need to do is a huge benefit. The suction is on the gentler side of the spectrum, which I appreciated. It's very easy to adjust the suction level as well as switch from letdown to expression mode. However, I definitely pumped less than I do with other pumps - about 3 ounces vs. my usual 4-5. Based on my pumping frequency (3-4 times per day), I wouldn't use this as my primary pump over a different Medela pump. The motor is also fairly loud - definitely louder than the Symphony and maybe similar to the pump in style. I could imagine it waking a sleeping baby or being audible on a phone call. I pump a few times a day at home, so haven't found this to be a huge issue.I like the redesigned flanges on this pump, they're much more comfortable than the regular Medela flanges I'm used to. However, they are shorter than the regular model, so if you have elastic nipples it might be painful if they're pulled past the end of the tunnel. It's also nice that it comes with two flange sizes so you can see which works best for you.
I've been using the Medela Solo at least daily for a week, having previously been using an old Medela Swing. (though quite pronounced vibrations from the device could rumble other things, making sound!)> Effective - the suction mimics baby sucks with short fast suction for let down then slower longer suction to draw the milk out (though can't say I've noticed the reported big improvement on older pumps, but that is probably very individual)[I'm not fussed about appearance, but it is aesthetically pleasing!]Negative-> I can't see how much is coming out of nipple as the "neck" of the funnel is covered by the opaque join (The milk flows into the bottle itself in bursts so is not the same as seeing it directly from the breast). I find it quite useful to see this (can see with the Swing) to help guide if I massage the breast simultaneously.> The device keeps same setting after switching off for a short time. This may suit some people, but I don't like it - when I switch breasts I have to remember to change the settings otherwise the intensity remains high and will miss the stimulation needed for let down. Sudden high intensity feels painful to me if I forget (but it's fine if slowly built up!)Overall I am pleased with and would recommend this pump.
The Medela Swing Maxi pump is the perfect size for traveling and taking to work. The backpack that comes with the pump conveniently fits the pump and all the accessories and has a great thermal regulated/water proof compartment in the bottom for milk storage. Other pumps didn't come with a bag and I had to find one that would work, so having one made for just this pump is great! Compared to other pumps, the amount of milk I am able to produce is similar; however, I really appreciate the easy interface, minimal buttons, and the rubber on the breast shields that make the pumping experience more comfortable. I also like that the shields can be rotated, giving me more freedom and flexibility in positioning. Having a closed pump system is a must have for me to keep the system clean and I love that this is a feature of the Medela Swing Maxi. The ability to pump one or two breasts is also a needed feature and this pump makes it easy to switch and close off one pump line without impacting the quality of the other line. The provided bottle stands are great, especially for this mom that has spilled her fair share of milk when trying to quickly put things away after pumping! The components of the pump are easy to remove and clean and my favorite part is that they are top rack dishwasher safe! I love that this pump is battery operated, giving me way more freedom to pump on the go without worrying about an outlet. I also really like that this can charge in a USB outlet as an option. Because this pump is small, the timing feature is on an app instead of the face of the pump itself. Since I typically have my phone while pumping, this feature is nice and was easy to connect to the pump. The whole setup took about 2 minutes. It automatically tracks my pumping sessions when I initiate the pumping feature and press start and has a great "virtual milk storage" that I use to see how much milk I have saved and where in the freezer/fridge it is located. The app doesn't have to be used and the pump can be used completely without it, which is a great option if my phone isn't around. Overall I really enjoy this pump and do not feel like I miss out on any features even with the small size. I received this breast pump from the Stellar Product Testing Panel.
I received the Medela Swing Maxi breast pump to try as a member of the Stellar Product Testing Panel. It is a great pump! I was really impressed with the vacuum suction levels and the small size of the pump itself. Since the pump is so small and lightweight, it was really easy to carry around, and I didn't have to sit next to an outlet for my entire pumping session. I do wish it would have come with a lanyard to have been able to hang it around my neck, as this would have made it the ultimate portable breast pump. The Swing Maxi was very easy to use. Turning on the pump put it immediately into letdown mode, which is great, but the letdown mode only runs for 60 seconds before changing to expression mode, which is too short for my needs. I used the letdown button to change it back for another 60 seconds, until I was ready to use expression mode (it changed back automatically after that additional 60 seconds). Hooking up all of the parts was very easy and I felt very comfortable using this closed system, as no breast milk is able to move past the membranes into the tubing. This also made cleaning the pump parts a breeze, and all of the parts fit together snugly.I am a little concerned that the breast pump manual only lists this pump as being able to withstand 275 pumping hours, because I am an exclusive pumper and already spend at least 2 hours pumping per day. I did not yet explore the Medela Family app, but I'm impressed that it can communicate pumping session lengths with the breast pump.Overall, I loved the portability and size of this pump! It had a great level of vacuum suction, was very easy to hook up and use, and helped me ton empty my breasts easily within my regular pumping sessions. I look forward to using this pump more on-the-go and when I return to work in the future.
I received this pump as part of the Stellar Product Testing Panel in exchange for my honest review. I had previously used a hospital-grade Medela pump in the hospital and really wasn't a fan, so I didn't have high hopes for this one. But I actually love it! I use it as a secondary pump for on the go, while driving, while getting ready in the morning, and when my primary pump parts need washing and I need to pump. The freedom this pump provided was more than I realized I was missing with my primary pump, despite it also having a battery option. Unfortunately, using this pump instead of my primary pump during the workday did not produce quite as much milk, but when used for a one-off pumping session, I did not notice a difference in output. It was easy to use, and easy to clean, and I appreciated the comment in the manual that gave me permission to put it in the dishwasher. The other ones I've read guilt you for doing that! It was slightly louder than my primary pump, which removed it from my options when pumping during a virtual meeting.I used the app at times, but found it incredibly glitchy in its ability to connect and stay connected to the pump. Eventually I would only use it to check the battery percentage. The slider to input the milk output is really hard to get to an exact number, especially since it offers input to the hundredth decimal. I really don't know if I got 2.11 or 2.12 ounces, and the bottles themselves are even less precise. I wouldn't have been irked by the imprecise bottles at all, probably never even mentioned it in this review, except for the app asking me which decimal best matches the bottle. There were a few pumping sessions that recorded the date wrong, so I won't go out of my way to add sessions to the app...again, unless I needed to know the battery percentage left.My favorite features of the pump were the loop-like tag and the low profile. I used a carabiner to attach the pump to my belt loop while getting ready in the morning, and the low profile allowed me to pump discreetly on my commute. I was skeptical about the removable flanges but came to appreciate them when I discovered I preferred one orientation over the other, and when using a pumping bra. I also found the silicon edges comfortable and not just an interesting design.Overall, I highly recommend this pump to anyone who doesn't need it for their primary work pump. Someone who would like an on-the-go pump would highly benefit from this, and someone like a stay-at-home mom who just needs a pump a day or for appointments/date night.
I got a chance to try this breast pump through the Stellar Product Testing Panel. I have some loves and some dislikes after using this pump for about three weeks, here we go:-The pump is quite small, small enough to fit in the palm of my hand and has a fabric loop that helps with portability. The battery is built in!-The pump came with two different size flanges-so awesome when you're just starting out and don't know what size to use, your nipples are changing, or you're like me and need two different sizes after a year of pumping because you have two different size nipples! Thanks, Medela for including these right out of the box!! The shape and the silicone edges of the flanges are super comfortable compared to the standard non-oval, hard plastic ones, ... Thanks, Medela for including these right out of the box!! The shape and the silicone edges of the flanges are super comfortable compared to the standard non-oval, hard plastic ones, too.-Automatically moves from stimulation/letdown phase into expression phase, very convenient for Sleepy Mommies and middle of the night pump sessions.-New design and colors of the pump and parts are so sleek and good looking. A+ on aesthetics to the design team on looking less like a medical device and more like a high-end electronic device.-This is the loudest pump I've ever used and I've had the privilege of using seven (7) different brands and types including classic plug in the wall, battery powered, portable, and 100% hands free in bra cordless styles. I pump at night in my bedroom now since the little one outgrew the bassinette and had to move to the crib in the other room. Now I pump next to my husband and this woke him up in the middle of the night because it's so loud.-My biggest frustration with the new pump design, however, is the design of the new parts. The new parts are 100% specific to Medela and cannot be substituted with other brands or manufacturers. I find this frustrating because my old adapters to wide mouth bottles do not fit in the new flange-to-bottle part and my kiddo is super picky about bottles and nipples so this is a huge disappointment. The new flange-to-bottle part is also really hard to clean. There are so many nooks and crannies for milk to get onto that have to be scrubbed if you work in an office and can't wash your parts until you get home and then your milk dries on the pump parts. The tubing is also short and not interchangeable with any other pump parts that I've used before. (I'm pretty sure it doesn't even fit with the new Medela Pump in Style which I received through my insurance). I'd like to see these pumps use universal pump parts and "play nice in the sandbox" within the brand and with other pump brands. Pump parts are expensive!! I'd like to see pump parts be more interchangeable.
My favorite things about the Medela Swing Maxi pump are it’s small and portable size and the long battery life (able to complete over 3 pumping sessions). Other features I like are: the flanges and suction/vibration are both comfortable, the pump comes with 2 flange size options to ensure the perfect fit, the connectors have a rounded shape allowing for more discrete coverage under a shirt and easy cleaning, one primary connector tube into the pump to eliminate tube tangles, the let down/expression phase automatically triggers after a minute making it easy to use, it’s quiet and it comes with a great carrying backpack (for storage and to wear during use). Another feature that is nice but I did not personally use much is the ability to connect the pump to blue tooth ... Another feature that is nice but I did not personally use much is the ability to connect the pump to blue tooth in order to use the Medela app to track pumping sessions as well as track other things (bottles, diapers, sleep, etc). The pump did not consistently link to the app, however, and the app was not intuitive or simple to use - both of which led me to not bother using the app.One major thing I’d change is the fact that the connectors leak milk when tilted near horizontally, such as when I bend over to pick something up off the floor, pick up my child or open a low cabinet. This has happened multiple times and I’ve lost about 2 ounces of precious milk each time while also creating a mess on the floor and my clothes. I like this pump because it’s small and portable, allowing me to accomplish other things while pumping, however, this feature really limits my ability to do that and is a main reason why I do not love this pump. I would also suggest providing a carabiner to hook onto the loop of the pump so that moms can easily clip the pump onto their clothing or pumping bra, making this even more portable. I have trialed putting the pump in the backpack and wearing the backpack while pumping, however, I prefer hooking the carabiner.Overall, I recommend this Medela Swing Maxi pump for its portability and size. I’d give it 5 stars once the connector design is modified to prevent leaking. Thanks to the Stellar Product Testing Panel for providing me with this breast pump!
