4 drives at 7200 RPM copying data probably wouldn't saturate the 10Gbs 3.1 interface anyways. I didn't want to have to resort to a USB C to A cable though so I returned it. I do have a USB C 3.1 flash drive so I know that interface works fine on my mobo.

This is a fine device for media storage and single backups. Again, this device does not support RAID in any configuration and Windows will not allow you to mirror, span or stripe any of the drives in this external. Single transfer rates are good over USB 3.1, no difference between this and if the drive was installed internally to SATA. I'm happy with the product for what I use it for, your mileage may vary. I would be very curious to see how this device performs with all SSD's. Solid 3/5 eggs for me. + Fast on single transfers. + USB 3.1. + Quiet. + Easy to setup and use - Windows sees as separate external drives. - No RAID support - Transfer rates drop severely when accessing 3+ drives at once. - Power cord plugs in side, can be an issue depending on setup. - Short ... Got this to set up in my studio. Loaded it with 2 - 4TB HDDs and 2 - 1TB SSDs. Transfer speed to the drives is okay, transfer speed between drives is outstanding. Its a little loud at times. Not horrible, but I may move it off my desk because it can be distracting at times. Im sure if it was loaded with 4 SSDs it would be completely silent. BTW, to load 2.5 SSDs you will need some adapters, but I found some really good ones on Amazon for $6. One design flaw in my opinion the USB 3 connection for the unit is on the side of the box, not the rear of the box like the power. Kind of Odd to have this fairly sleek looking box on on your desk with a cable sticking out the side of it. Overall Im happy with the purchase. A good value for the money. Hopefully it holds up over ... MoreGot this to set up in my studio. Loaded it with 2 - 4TB HDDs and 2 - 1TB SSDs. Transfer speed to the drives is okay, transfer speed between drives is outstanding. This is a great USB C JBOD box. Very easy to set up the drives just slide in. the only thing you need to do is use the included screwdriver to add a plastic handle to the back of the drive so that you can more easily get it out. Access times are fast seems to work well.
Great expansion enclosure if you plan on adding more storage to your PC!
Massive disappointment. Would NOT recommend. At least not with Windows Storage Spaces.
I have one of their Raid cases for about 8 years, it's still working well. That's the reason I bought this brand
Bought this as a way to wean from my 5 years system ( the amazing Inwin Buc with 4 hot swap drive bays) so I could access my data easily on any of my 3 Small Form Factor project builds and It is really a decent choice but needs some improvements to make it trustworthy on the drive longevity : - With better drives mounting mechanism that includes dampening/immobilizing silicone/plastic grommets and in side railing and enclosure feet. - and better cooling with a larger 120mm 3/4 pin interchangeable fan, or best dual slim 120mm fans in push pull with front filtered/grilled fan incorporated to front enclosure door with front appropriate air intake. -
After dealing with lack luster support from many PC component makers over the years, I found the rapid and effective support from Mediasonic to be the proverbial fresh air. It must be the Canadian influence where Mediasonic resides.
