I like the updates made on this product. It is a nice refresh and kinda throwback to what made this shoe great in the beginning before it got sidetracked and lost its way...its back with great traction and cushion for both street and dirt!

The lightweight Hoka Zinal is my go-to trail shoe, I generally run 3-6 miles so I wouldn't say I'm a real long distance runner that does half marathons or anything in that range. I bought the Challenger 7 because I could go for a trail shoe that has a BIT more cushion than the Zinal on some days, but I also didn't want something as heavy or max cushioned as the Hoka Speedgoat.The road-to-trail aspect of it is an added bonus for me because there are trails in North New Jersey that also have paved areas. The profiles of the trails I run are similar regardless of which shoe I wear. So yes, even taking into consideration that some of the trails I go to are technical and rocky, I'd expect the Challenger lugs to hold up. I'm guessing that the Vibram of the Hoka Zinals hold up much better over time.My ideal trail shoe moving forward would probably be a version of the Hoka Zinal but with the Profly+ of the Hoka Mach 5 road shoe: nimble, speedy, comfortable yet lightweight midsole.All in all, I like the Hoka Challenger 7 a lot, hope they use stronger material for the lugs in the future.

I'm looking forward to trying these on some alpine trails this summer. I'll probably give them a shot at Silver Rush 50, and perhaps while pacing the last 40 miles at Leadville 100.

I needed new golf shoes but wanted something that was really comfortable. Although my Challengers were designed for trail running, they work great for me as a senior golfer with a slow swing speed. I love all my Hoka shoes!
Very comfortable and light shoe. Great traction when walking/running outdoor trails. Looks great too.
This is the second pair of this model I have bought. Have put 1000 miles on the old pair walking. They fit so well that I bought their replacement.
My Hoka Challenger 7's looked nice and had a nice step in feel so they encouraged me to do more running in them. I ran on all terrain and found that they gripped well even on steep slippery gravel surfaces. They are less soft than previous versions and less cushion than I am used to for trail running. I ended up regretting the pounding my feet took. They are light and more bouncy than previous versions, but be careful if you are used to more highly cushioned shoes.

I'm looking for a road to trail running shoe and read about these. Compared to other shoes of this category, I'm not a big fan of the spongy feeling this shoe has. It was comfortable on my foot, but the squishy feel is not for me but perhaps for others.
This is the best hybrid trail/road shoe I have found yet. Plush cushioning while still feeling swift. Nice traction on trails without feeling clunky on the road. My feet love this shoe and so will yours!
