The Merkur 34C double edge safety razor holds iconic status in the wet shaving community, also often referred to as the "HD" short for Heavy Duty. This moniker refers to its ample weight, but the 34C is also ultra refined and few other razors can compete with the smooth, comfortable shave this classic delivers! The closed comb head allows you to intuitively find the perfect shaving angle to deliver a smooth, hassle free shave with excellent results. The generous blade gap allows lather to easily flow, protecting the razor head from clogging with cut hair or residual lather. Supplied in a Merkur branded box. Made in Solingen, Germany.

The Merkur 34C has been available for several decades with no need to wonder why. It delivers in every way. It is not an aggressive razor, so it removes the stubble and leaves the skin. This reduces skin irritation and nicks and cuts as well.So wet shavers with sensitive skin issues have nothing to worry about. People new to double edge shaving will find the 34C an excellent entry razor. And easier on their faces and neck than a cartridge head razor. Experienced double edge shavers will find they can use the 34C as their daily razor with excellent results every time.

I begin by commending Fendrihan for its typically excellent customer service. The merchandise was reasonably priced, the order was filled precisely as placed, and the merchandise was delivered promptly and in perfect condition.I have been wet shaving for decades, about the past ten years of which have been with double edge safety razors. The Merkur 34C HD was my first closed comb, two-piece, chrome plated zamac razor. My review is made following three daily shaves with two different blades (Personna Red, Merkur), one shave cream (Trumper’s Limes), one shave soap (Prorasso Green), and one shave stick (Speick with Lavender) applied with an Edwin Jagger Super Badger shaving brush. The interior and exterior surfaces of the razor are finished nicely and burr-free. The razor easily disassembled and re-assembled, and allowed for the safe and speedy installation and removal of blades. The razor is weighted and balanced perfectly, fit well in my small/medium-sized hand and was easy to maneuver, and provided audible feedback throughout each shave. A three pass shave with touch up resulted in a reasonably close shaves, and a perfectly close shave was achieved after additional effort. Ranking the aggressiveness of the Feather AS D2 at 1, the Weber PH at 5, and the Edwin Jagger 3ONE6 at 10, I rank the Merkur 34C HD at 4.The principal failing of the Merkur 34C HD is its blade alignment. Despite considerable effort, I could not seat a blade with exposure of its two cutting edges that was both equal and parallel to the edges of the top cap. I settled for “close enough.

I've had many shaves with the 34c I bought from New England Shaving, and I have had excellent results with many different blades (Lord and Feather being my top 2 choices with the 34c). I have been at times disappointed with my head shaving results with the 34c; I shave my entire face and head every day, so I cover a lot of ground. I've mastered the 34c angles for my face (knowing at times it's not the most efficient razor out there), but have struggled with efficiency blindly doing the back of my head and across the non-handed side. I bought a Henson AL13 and have been delighted with that as a head solution. So my every day shave is Merkur 34c on my face and the Henson AL13 for my head, and all is well.

I have used a Merkur razor for 20 years. There are not many products anymore so thoughtfully engineered and built with this level of quality. I recently replaced my travel razor with a Merkur model similar to the 34C and liked it a great deal. As the price point on the 34C was agreeable, I thought I would purchase one to try and possibly replace my home Merkur razor for a less aggressive shave. It has been a revelation and my facial skin has reacted well. Although this razor is not adjustable you can control the level of aggressiveness in your shave by the blade you use. I use a Derby blade which suits me well for a coarse but not thick beard. I have used a Feather blade and if I had a thicker beard, this blade would be aggressive enough I believe. If you want a high-quality razor that will deliver a smooth nonirritating shave daily, you will be pleased. The HD in the model number is for heavy duty and this meets the description. Yet the device is relatively light and the short handle prevents you from applying unnecessary pressure and the closed comb configuration prevents your shave from turning into a crime scene. Any Merkur razor is a solid choice but what we men are less educated about is the type of tool: handle length, blade exposure, comb type etc. in theMerkur toolbox that will work best. If you choose Merkur, do your research to find the best fit for your beard and buy a quality blade to put in it and neither your face nor your wallet will be disappointed.
This is a great razor. I feel like a fool for spending so many years buying multibladed disposable razors. This is perfectly weighted, the blade is excellent, the shave is probably better than that brand, it’s travel sized, and there is no plastic anywhere. The only waste is the metal blade which can be recycled. Love this thing! Huge thanks to Executive Shaving for sourcing this from Germany.
I just started my adventure in wet shaving. I remember my grandfather having lots of these and maybe that’s the appeal. This razor is made well, and looks to be durable. I like that it covers the blade completely this makes shaving my face and head comfortable. I use the Astra double edge blades, these are a little forgiving, and do not irritate my skin as much as the Feather blades. The razor is light, I would like it to be heavier, and the grip can be made a little more abrasive so it does not slip.
First time user of a safety razor. I LOVE it. I can't believe I've been buying disposable razors for 30 years. Really easy to shave with. I used a lot of caution at first because of my thought of getting cut. But within a week I was totally comfortable with the Merkur. It the only saftey razor I've used. For a casual shaver like myself, this could be a lifetime razor. Better shave and way cheaper blades. Watch videos on how to prep the face before shaving. I don't go all out like some saftey razor fans do. I put lotion on my face right after a shower and then use traditional over-the-counter shaving cream. Works fine.
