Merkur 46C (Travel Safety Razor)

I like the razor. The smoother handle took some getting used to, but it’s not a big deal. I like the case. It’s a good size and I like that there’s a spot for the blades. A small but significant detail for me.I needed a small kit for travel and this does the job.

I purchased this razor for travel of course as it was compact and easy to drop in my travel kit. I have been very happy with the weight and balance. It shaves well and glides easily as evidenced by the fact that I haven't cut or nicked myself once!The handle is a little short compared to my home fav razor but doesn't take too long to get used to. A little pricey if it's get lost with my luggage but I would probably buy another to replace if that happened.

My son gave me this set for Fathers' Day, great surprise! He remembered me admiring his and thought it would be great for Dad too. Given my experience with the True North DE razor, I'm sticking to Feather blades with this one as I get the best shave for my 'wire bristle beard'. The small profile case makes the perfect set for travelling yet it still has space for a package of blades. An awesome set!

I bought this razor mostly to add to my collection. Well I have had a dozen plus shaves with it including evening shaves. I am enamoured with it. It is comfortable to use it fits my large hands and gives a surprisingly close shave even with less than best blades (which I travel with should security take them away) I have used blades from merkur, feather, Astra and wilkinson sword, which by the way I cannot with my othe DEs. Cons, a little mild may require extra passes. Pros no razor burn with extra passes. An excellent choice for a newbie who wants a bbs shave with minimal weepers.

Great Travel Razor and Case

I received this travel razor and was able to use it that weekend for a trip away. The razor itself was while a bit lighter than my everyday Merkur razor but worked just as well. It comes in a handy small leather case with a slot for a box of blades which fits nicely in your travel case. Well worth the money.

Great razor BUT...

I prepared myself from the single rated comment under "first travel razor". I should have heeded the advice about the damaged threads. I do not believe that WCS are the ones responsible as opposed to Merkur who I presumes manufactures this razor, One should not have to dig out the tap & die set to re-thread the male and female parts on the handle prior to first use, but that is exactly what happened when I first tried to assemble it. Simple fix, BUT... Merkur needs to look at their process of shipping and packaging along with a serious look at their quality assurance of lack there of. Merkur 46C 3-Piece Travel Razor in Leather Case

Decided to buy this razor based on reviews and the fact that it is small, compact and easy to travel with. First shave, with 3 passes and the Merkur blade = smoothest shave I've had to date and I usually use a straight razor. A little bit on the pricey side, but when you factor in a 50-60$ DE razor, case and blades, it's right on point/a little bit of savings. When you close the case, you might be able to squeeze in a small styptic pencil, depending on the size. Other than that, no complaints thus far!

First review on here, now that I've got two razors to compare. A bit of background on my face I've yet to meet someone with a beard and skin like mine. It grows in all different directions- especially in the 'hard to shave' already areas like jaw line, and I've got incredibly sensitive skin- Even 'sensitive' skin high and low end products are ineffective for me. So, the shave. Had a Saturday evening shave last night- ie. 36 hours of growth, with this razor and with a two use Derby, out of my Fendrihan Eglinton (or Yonge?) razor. I was experimenting, trying to replicate a 'trip' with this shave ie. a mid use blade, a bit of growth and the travel razor. Amazing shave. At one point on my second pass, I asked myself 'Is this even shaving?' it was so smooth. And this was with a medium sharpness used Derby. I couldn't imagine a new Derby, or even a Feather. No irritation, no blood. Followed up with a splash of Clubman, coconut oil to moisturize (which I also use as my pre-shave) and done. Beautiful shave. I may be purchasing an HD or another Merkur and putting that head on my Fendrihan handle, because I do like it. At $88, I believe this is a deal- sum of its parts. Well engineered razor with aluminum handle. Short enough, but with the heavier head allows the weight to 'fall' into the face. I like to hold this handle like an olive, such as bunching the fingers and thumb together at the 'Pommel' of the razor handle (for lack of better term). Keeping the hand and wrist inline with the elbow, you can adjust the angle by thinking of those as an extension of the handle 'Elbow up!'. The blade angle and exposure are bang on- just shallow enough, where I can compare to the Fendrihan is bit more steep. Review of that razor, and a complete review of the Sampler pack I ordered (Derby, Feather, Astra, Merkur) to follow. This razor breaks down and stores beautifully. Very smart design. The case is Leatherette, however, I think this is a smart move. It won't absorb moisture like leather will, and this case will inevitably get wet. I believe in this application, the leatherette is the better option. Comes with a 10 pack of Merkur blades. Bonus offer. Very happy. Even my Dad loves this, and is very intrigued- which is hard to do with him and products.

The best Razor and Shave

The Merkur razor is one of the best shaving products I ever purchased. It produces the closes, smoothest shaves I've ever had. The handle design easily lets you guide the razor. The leather case is superior quality and well designed. Perfect for traveling. Definitely very high quality stuff.

this is the first travel razor i have bought since moving to DE shaving. i bought this because the leather case has a place for blades and i currently use a long handle Merkur 23C and i like it. upon first inspection i notice the threads are already worn on the male end and only have useable threads in the center. when attaching the pieces of the the handle, they do not fit perfectly together. the pieces are offset enough to notice. the handle is lite and i havent checked the point of balance. if the 210 style came with this type of case i would have bought that one and probably have been happier with it. as it is, i will probably wind up buying the other travel razor and use the case i have because i dont think the handle will last long as i travel often.
