This is my third pair of these hiking shoes. My first pair performed as I expected. Unfortunately the next two pairs have developed a right shoe heel squeak. This is not uncommon since I saw similar complaints on Merrell website. Yes I alternate three pairs of shoes so no one pair gets beat to death. I love the shoe, the fit, the performance, the comfort etc. However the squeak is a very load irriatating noise. Merrell needs to make statement re: this issue.

These are my first pair of Moab 2 but not my first Merrell. It has been about 1.5 months of daily wearing so this is my thoughts up to this point.I have to say these shoes felt great out of the box and the break in time was almost nothing. I have been wearing them every day in many different activities. They are warm enough that I didn't have any problem camping when the temps went down to almost 25 degrees. We have a quarter mile gravel driveway that I walk multiple times a day. The gravel does not cause me any discomfort and the soles have really nice grip. They seem to be holding up very nicely. The sizing was perfect for me.Overall I am extremely happy and have since purchased a second pair that is waterproof.

I was measured years ago at a Red Wing store for wide feet, but never really took it to heart. Reviewing some of my recent footwear purchases, I opted to "go Wide" for this pair and pleased so far. They are a bit "looser" than I'm use to, but they are not causing pain in my feet which is probably a result of width that accommodates my foot. I have been strictly "indoors on carpet" determining if these are the right size/fit and ready to step outdoors. Purchased for an upcoming overseas trip where my minimalist shoes will leave me over exposed to the planned daily mileage. Will have to update later, but very pleased to date.

I bought this shoes to be primarily a hiking shoe that I could wear occasionally as a casual shoe.First the positives:* Extremely comfortable out of the box. The midsole was very, very comfortable. I prefer more structured footwear. This provided a ton of comfort and cushion while still being firm on rocks.* The outer sole had a lot of grip. Did minor, very minor, scrambling and hiking on some scree fields. I felt confident in my footing. So slipping or sliding.* I also searched for a more structured hiking shoe/boot that wasn't goretex lined or waterproof because my feet burn-up unless it's winter. These shoes were so much cooler (or not as hot) as my goretex hiking boots.Negative: I only had one. The shoe is very wide. These shoes were so much cooler (or not as hot) as my goretex hiking boots.Negative: I only had one. The shoe is very wide. I had to tighten my shoe so much, the fabric in the toe box bunched up. After my first hike, my toes just hurt afterwards. I never experienced that type of pain before. I thought I didn't lace my shoes well, the trail was steeper than usual, etc. I used them a second time. Laced them up tighter. Retied them before my descent and hiked back down. My toes ached and were very sore again. Wore them one last time for another hike. Same problem.I ended up doing a lot of research and learned a new term called "toe bang." It's when your shoes are too loose and "bang" against your boot and hurt your toes. Who knew?I had to think long and hard about it because I wanted to like the shoes, but I returned them. The negative outweighed the positives too much for me.SUGGESTIONS/RECOMMENDATIONS:If you want to wear this shoe for work, as a casual shoe, OR the shoe fits (not too wide), then I highly recommend it.If the shoe is too wide and you want to hike in it, then it's a hard-pass.FINAL COMMENT: If the shoe had a normal width, I would still happily own a pair to wear hiking.
This is my fourth pair of Merrell Moab Vent. I have worn them for years and love them. I wear a size 11, but the latest pair is definitely smaller than my previous Moabs, even though the size label indicates they are the same as always. I put them on and tested them in the house. My toes touch the end and my forefoot is cramped. I don't know if they have changed the last or if this pair was somehow mis-labeled. I am going to return these, but don't know if I should get my usual size or try a 1/2 size larger. I am giving a 5 star rating, because I think the quality of Merrell shoes is outstanding. I hope I can figure this out.
I tried the MOAB boots. They were great but too heavy so being a new hiker, I went with the Hoka One One. The Hokas were awesome, but didn't have the lateral support I needed for the moderately difficult Picos de Europa. I purchased the MOAB shoes next. They are much lighter than the boots and heavier than the Hokas. They are light enough though and the lateral support is much better. I haven't worn them in the mountains yet, but they feel up to the challenge.
Bought these after previously owning a pair of the MOAB 2 Tacticals and MOAB 2 GTX.Was looking for a lighter style daily shoe and these are absolutely fantastic.Perfect fit steaight out of the box for my wider foot without needing to purchase the wide version. Can easily wear them 8+ hours a day with getting any foot fatigue and the breathe extremely well.Would happily buy a 2nd or 3rd pair olin the future.
I haven't worn Merrell Men's Moab hiking shoes in several years but was looking for something that I could wear everyday other than the typical tennis/running shoes that I have been wearing. I was pleasantly surprised when trying them on just how comfortable they are. So I purchased a pair and began wearing them for my day shoes. Great choice! They are supremely comfortable. I also like the solid grip that I enjoy on most every surface including wet linoleum and ceramic tile. I like them so much so that I need to go back to my local REI and purchase another pair so that I can rotate them. I might also point out that I have been used to wearing merino-wool Darn Tough no show running socks for ever. I still wear the same socks with these Merrell Moab 2 and this paring ... MoreI haven't worn Merrell Men's Moab hiking shoes in several years but was looking for something that I could wear everyday other than the typical tennis/running shoes that I have been wearing. I have wide feet and often have trouble finding shoes that fit OK. These fit well right from the start. with support in all the right places. I haven't taken any hikes yet but initial experience is very good. One weird thing -- I've often ordered shoes from REI before, and they always came in the manufacturer's box and were obviously new. These came in an unmarked box, not stuffed with the paper, etc. Maybe these were someone's returns and that's why they were on sale, but they showed no signs of use or wear so I'm OK with it, although IMHO they should mention that in the description.
These were on sale at a really good price but they could have been free and I'd still return them. Not at all like previous generation Moab Ventilators. No longer have two shoestring eyelets at the top and way wider than they used to be. Maybe as slippers around the house... no, they're too heavy. Going to return them immediately.Really too bad that Merrell is missing the boat on this product. The Moab Ventilator had been a great hiking and all around shoe for the previous 15-20 years, but no longer.
