Ankle Support of Thongs
3 May 2024TB

originally posted on merrellaustralia.com.au

I thought I would be able to work around the design with socks or harder lacing but they'll be going to the op shop brand new. I got S13, with a flat foot and an ankle wider than your foot and a smaller size might be ok. The support on the heel is about one cm then is soft cushion which facilitates chafing, a bit under two thirds being plush. Lacing tightly doesn't help because it bows out at the inside of the ankle as well, two fingers fit inside the shoe on the outside of the rim of the sole from the bow. It's like it's a wide sizing, as my other Merrell's aren't like this but it's narrower in front of the ankle.

Beware - Very tight fit

I have purchased numerous pairs of Merrell shoes in the past, all in the same size and all fitted perfectly. This purchase of Moab Adventure 3 waterproof of the same size, proved to be different. Initially I thought they were a snug fit with adequate length and they would loosen up. I proceeded to wear them but found they were much too tight in both width and length and made my feet uncomfortable. I compared the external measurements of a very similar but older pair of Merrell Forestbound J77291 shoes with the Moab and found they were identical in both length and width although the internal size was obviously different. I contacted Merrell and as I had worn them I was unable to exchange them for a bigger pair. Great, long lasting shoes.

I've become a big fan of Merrell footwear, having had 4 pairs over about 10 years. Not that many, but they wear so well and go the distance better than any other shoe I've worn! I've usually got two pairs don't the go at any one time. (different styles). I've trapesed all over Europe and the UK with them at one time, I wear them, virtuallly, daily at home in Australia and I absolutely love them. I need a wide fit for my feet, but, unfortunately, the wide fit options are becoming fewer it seems. I bought a pair online, they were not wide fit, to try and unfortunatley I had to return them to my local shop on the Gold Coast. That store, provided outstanding service, by sourcing the last pair of the same shoe, in a wide fit, in Australia! Now I have to hope they'll last ... MoreI've become a big fan of Merrell footwear, having had 4 pairs over about 10 years. Highly recommended hiking / casual shoe
18 December 2023

I bought a pair of these about 2 to 3 years ago and have really put them to a lot of work. They strong, comfortable and durable. They look as good as the day I bought them. I’ve also used them on a 42 k hike at Wilson’s Prom recently. I’m in my 50s now so probably need a mid boot now (for Achilles support) but the cushioning and comfort over rocks and rough paths were excellent. They look good wearing as a a normal shoe as well. Will definitely be back to Anaconda and Merrell for future purchases.

Horrible warranty and customer service!! STAY AWAY
11 September 2024

I bought these shoes less than a month ago, and have worn them only a few times. The front of both shoes are coming apart from the leather. I contacted Merrell, and their excellent customer service is so pathetic and worthless. I was told they will not cover a product they made, because it was sold by a third party on Amazon. I don’t keep a tab on their approved sales groups, but would have hoped a company would stand behind their product. They offered me a measly 30% off of purchasing a new pair. These shoes are less than 30 days old, and are falling apart. I have worn Merrell shoes for the past 15 years as have all of my family. This will be the last purchase I ever make from them as they will not stand behind a product they manufactured.

MOAB Adventure 3. FAIL
12 June 2024

Counter lining lacks finger hook to assist donning shoe. Either Upper or tongue is way too narrow, as it is impossible to obtain full closure of the areas, permitting debris and liquid to enter. Laces are insufficient in length to insure secure lock of my foot in the shoe. Break-in was longer than anticipated, but this is not necessarily indicative of defective product as were my earlier three comments. I have been wearing US size 9 Merrell products for the past 29 years. Frankly it appears your firm has elected to sacrifice quality in production in favor of increased line items.

Poor build quality and no communication.
10 April 2024

I was extremely excited to get my new pair of shoes. When I got them I found them very comfortable and fitted extremely well.I then took them for a 12 km walk which was dry so the shoes did not get wet.The next day I found that the glue on the front of the shoe holding the rubber was giving way so I wrote them an email to try and rectify the issue.I have not heard anything from Merrell and it has been 2 weeks since my complaint.I am happy with the comfort and sizing but extremely disappointed with the build quality and lack of communication from the company.

Tongue is a massive pillow you could sleep on
21 September 2024

Nice shoe but the top of tongue is a massive pillow sticking out of shoe tugging on your hiking pants. Merrell makes good looking shoes but always messes up the basics; thus, I always return them. This time I kept them, but I had to cut the tongue way down and re-sew them. I wish the original tongue was low profile, uncushioned, and flat, not an over-stuffed, high reaching tongue. Merrell, do you even wear the shoes you make?

Not all Vibram rubber compounds are the same. The Vibram compound on the Moab has excellent grip on wet surfaces and that's important because I live in a rain forest. Moving indoors, the wet soles squeak on linoleum and remind me of the super sticky soles on Sperry duck shoes. The Vibram rubber can slip a bit on ice but it still gives me more confidence that the rubber chemistry used by other brands of hiking shoes. It's a trade-off between traction and long-life. I'll take traction any day because life won't be fun if I slip climbing over wet rocks. The lug pattern is wide-spaced and work great on mud, rock and snow. Transitioning from trail to pavement, it feels a bit lumpy. That's okay because these are not dancing shoes.
