75 Miles, Zero Issues, Excellent!

I bought these (mens, medium width, size 9) to do the Camino de Santiago starting in Portugal (Matosinhos) and ending in Spain (A Guarda). The trek was about 75 miles across 5 days and the longest day was about 20 miles. The trail surface consisted mostly of pavement, boardwalk, cobblestone, and some light to moderate rocks and tree roots. The Merrell site has a trail rating for these shoes of 'Moderate - Made for trails with some obstacles and moderate debris." This rating is accurate. They are not a stiff hiking boot style and for the Camino, the shoes were absolutely perfect. I had zero issues with my feet the entire time. I could feel the cushion in every step and they provided the correct amount of support. They were very comfortable. I definitely recommend these and would buy them again.

I bought these to replace my boots for a trip to Yellowstone. I was tired of big, heavy boots that took up a lot of real estate on my body, and I my bags, but still needed something that provided support in rough conditions. So far, these have delivered. I had my doubts, since they’re so light they almost feel fragile, but so far I haven’t been disappointed.I wasn’t counting, but over the course of this trip these shoes did between 10-12 miles. They handled scree well - could not even feel the rocks beneath my feet. Flat ground is the same story. Comfortable, breathable, and insanely light. I did not get the model equipped with gore-tex (gore-tex has longevity issues) so the heavy morning due along the rivers while I was fishing soaked my feet fast, but the shoes ... MoreI bought these to replace my boots for a trip to Yellowstone. A well-rounded trip, but I’m noticing significant wrinkling in the midsole and some wear along the lugs that hold the shoelaces. I’m hoping these are just signs of life.

I live in Vermont and I hike in all four seasons. In the last 15 years, I typically hike between 1000-1500 miles each year. Last season I hiked 1374 miles. All of these miles have been walked in Merrell shoes. I’m never disappointed in your products. Your shoes fit my feet well. I’m able to lace up a new pair right out of the box and walk without any discomfort. I have a pair of Merrell boots for winter hiking, another pair for wetter shoulder season hikes, and Moab speed 2’s for summer hiking. Thank you for your continued offerings of high quality products!

Great shoes, should have gone half a size larger
22 May 2024

I completed the French Camino in 2022 wearing Moab 3. The fact that I was able to walk all 800 km without blisters or any foot issues was amazing, particularly since so many people doing this walk were suffering from various foot injuries. I am planning to go back for another Camino this Fall and this time around I was looking for a lighter shoe. I thought the Moab Speed 2 might be precisely what I needed. The shoes are very light and look great. I have been wearing them for a couple of weeks and they immediately felt comfortable. My only concern at this stage is that I am worried I should have purchased half a size larger. I was influenced by reviews saying that they are made big so I went for my usual shoe size. However, my toes feel pretty tight in the new shoes ... MoreI completed the French Camino in 2022 wearing Moab 3. Not durable, poor customer service.
10 September 2024

Trash. I had the previous generation of this shoe. The Vibram sole chucked off almost immediately. The glued panels on the upper started peeling as well. Very light wear around my home. Most aggressive use was on the gravel driveway. Merrell did grant a warranty replacement but they only give you a short time to use it. I called asking for an exception but was told no. The customer service rep agreed she would rather lose a customer than make one happy. This is a warning to any potential new customers.

Poor heel lock
29 March 2024

I have purchased many Merrell's over the years especially the Moab. Last two pairs of the Speed shoe I have had to return as neither of them lock my heel in place, every step my heel moves up and down. It matters not how I lace the show , my heel will simply not stay in place. Underfoot they feel excellent, but the poor heel lock means I just cannot wear them. I have four pairs of New Balance and not one of them have this problem. I am very disappointed in Merrell for whatever change they made that resulted in this and will no longer be purchasing any of your shoes. I will stick with New Balance from now on.

TRY THEM ON!!
10 October 2024

After extensive research and review reading on the Moab Speed 3, I decided to go with a half size larger than my normal size. Unfortunately I will be returning them. They do not run a half size small like many reviews say. With full cushion socks and liners on my feet are swimming in them and I’m sure to get blisters out on the trail. Also, for some reason the right shoe fits totally different than the left shoe and I can feel extensive cushioning in the left shoe and not the right. They are also a little narrow in the mid section (another reason I sized up). Never had any issues with shoe sizing or fitment in my life. Maybe I just got a dud pair. But not very happy with my purchase. Really should be 3 stars. I expected more comfort and a better fit for $140.

Tested in the Bavarian Alps
21 September 2024

I bought the Moab Speed 2 for a trip to the Bavarian Alps for hiking the tallest peak in Germany, the Zugspitze. These great shoes also held up extremely well hiking in Tyrol, Austria. I never had any issues with these shoes that required minimal break in periods. Not only were they used for my beautiful hikes in the Alps, they also looked great while exploring historical cities like Innsbruck, Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Munich. Bottom line, this is a phenomenal shoe that not only handled some of the most rugged mountains in the world, but also looked and felt great strolling city streets in Austria and Germany. Wherever your journey takes you, the Moab Speed 2 will not disappoint!

Unbelievable!
30 July 2024

Bought a different pair of Merrel 2 months ago which have been great for bushwalking. Trails are relatively dry though so thought id buy a lighter summer pair which would suit fine. Bought these Moab Speed 2 in olive and they are brilliant. Straight out of the box did to walks of half marathon each 22kmts. Just the fact that I felt comfortable enough to take on that distance was amazing but the fact that I felt no pressure points or sore spots at all after each session is amazing. Now have 3 pair less than 3 months old and won't buy another brand. Can't believe how far the quality and technical support aspects have improved since I bought a pair about 7 years ago. Brilliant.

[Rewarded Review] Lightweight and comfortable
15 April 2024

I’ve tried several types of hiking shoes and these are by far the most comfortable I’ve ever worn. They are lightweight and supportive. They provide stability while still allowing flexibility. The cushioning is top notch and great for long hikes. The heel doesn’t slip and was very comfortable. They provide great traction, even on rocky wet surfaces. Fit was true to size. Would definitely recommend and I will only use these for hiking from now on.
