This thing is light, has backpack style carrying straps, expands into a good size platform and will save your noggin. I haven't used others but this is pretty comfortable to fall on. I even nap on it. I guess i only wish it had its own attachment points to put my chalk and bag on it while i hike to the location.

I've used it around 5 times since I've purchased it. It's a bit more firm than I would prefer but it's a nice pad and I suspect it'll get more give over time. As firm as it is, it seems very firm. I've had it on some sharp rocks and landed on it with force and there are no signs of issues or tearing (still early in it's life). Back packing straps are nice and I carabiner my shoes and chalk on the securing strap for convenience. I also plan to sleep on two of them pushed together while camping and it's a good size for that purpose. Happy climbing!

This is a good basic crash pad that does its core job well: it's thick and supportive when falling and landing on it. It also comes with attached shoulder straps, handles, and a velcro+strap system for securing it shut and transporting it around.I think the one thing to be aware of when considering buying is that its lay-flat surface area is a little smaller than most other crash pads I've encountered -- while at the same time, it feels pretty bulky/chunky when carrying or transporting it around. It's not heavy, but it eats up a lot of room in my car trunk, and when hiking to boulders through narrow trails it frequently gets caught on plants or overgrowth, so I have to take it off my back to squeeze it through tight spaces. I just want to start with I am new to bouldering. At first glance, the Session ll is well made. The construction and ease of the Velcro flaps and strap are very user friendly. The backpack straps are comfy and also has a waist belt to help with those longer treks. When opened, the flaps reverse to cover the backpack straps. Nice feature. The center of the pad has a diamond pad of carpet to wipe off dirt before you start your problem.I’ve used it a few times so far and time will tell as far as durability. Looking forward to putting this to some serious use!!!
This is the first crash pad I've owned and I really like it so far! As a more beginner climber to the outdoors, I didn't want to break the bank but also wanted something decent in size. Will probably pick up another pad down the road for more coverage but this is great for climbing with other people. So far so good!
Metolius is the exact wrong product. These things wear out so fast. I know they’re from Oregon and Oregon was the coolest place to be but these pads are the worst boulder Pads out
As the other reviews have stated, this is a great pad for a great price. It is perfect for beginners or as a second pad. I keep it in my car in case I stumble upon some good rocks and it is perfect for that. It is compact but still big enough to cover your fall area and has been good to me even with higher problems. I recently fell 18 feet and landed on it and was uninjured though if you are focusing on highballs, I would suggest getting a pad designed for that. My favorite feature is the shoe-cleaning mat in the middle of the pad, I absolutely love that as there tends to be a lot of leaves/mud around where I climb. Great value!
I bought this as my first pad, as I switched my climbing scene from indoor to outdoor. Solid pad overall. Feels protective & cushiony when I fall, but definitely not soft where my ankle feels compromised. Backpack strap makes it portable, but I must note that it is not a big pad. If you are climbing with other people's pads then no problem, but I would not use this pad (only this pad I should say) on an overhang or any projects. Overall a good solid pad for starters @ fair price.
Look, this isn’t like falling onto a voluptuous mattress. And it shouldn’t be. It’s soft enough to catch your fall but stiff enough to do the job. Giggity. It’s pretty robust. I’ve used it on granite with no rips. Surprisingly light for its size and the carry all flap is awesome for gear. I think it’s the best bag for your buck especially as a first pad. Enjoy. Send it!
This is a great second pad or starter pad if you're a beginning boulderer. It's well made and well designed, with more than adequate cushioning for moderate heights. The angled hinge helps to protect from the dangers of a protruding rock or root at the crucial juncture. It packs a decent amount of gear, and can certainly handle a couple pairs of shoes, chalk bag and water bottle--probably more if you worked at it. A minor feature, perhaps, but the hook/buckle device that secures the pad in a closed position has a far smoother action than the buckles used on our Black Diamond pads. I'm very pleased with the pad, particularly for the price.
