Coming from a pair of LCD-2s, the Elites are infinitely more comfortable to wear for long listening sessions. These are incredibly well built and gorgeous as well. I really enjoy the slightly relaxed sound signature as I'm sensitive to too much treble. Everything I've listened to so far sounds phenomenal. My only negative is that for a flagship headphone of this price, the "upgrade cables" should be standard- the stock cable while feeling sturdy does feel a little less premium.

Having bought a Naim Uniti HE, I decided that it deserved better headphones than I was currently using. After auditioning the most obvious alternatives, I found that the Meze Elite headphones not only are supremely comfortable, but seem, to my ears, to have an ideal balance between musicality and detail.Add to that a wide and three dimensioned soundstage and you have the recipe for many hours of fatigue free happy listening.

I am a former Empyrean owner and have had my eye on the Elite's for a while. All I can say is that they are completely and utterly effortless and clearly superior to the Empyreans. I don't normally listen to Electronic music but Depeche Mode live through the Elite's sound utterly brilliant. Thoroughly recommended headphones and I've owned a few in my time. These are head and shoulders the best I've ever owned....I am a returning Audiobarn customer and have found dealing with Jack an absolute pleasure. My purchase involved a trade in and I received a fair price and excellent logistics.Great product and customer service - a winning Audiobarn combination.

As always a fantastic buying experience from Audio46 and I have been using their expertise for the last decade when it comes to buying my audio products. Great synergies as Tony K gave me insight would be with my Ifi Pro iDSD, Ifi Gryphon DAC, Chord Hugo 2. Imaging on par with my HD-800S, but more 3 dimensionality, especially in Jazz, EDM, Rock and pop and multiple subtleties of each track can be followed in parallel. Incredibly musical and the most comfortable headphones I have experienced to date with no issue to wear these for 5-6h a day as one works. Highly recommended and endgame for many years to come.
Having owned the Hifiman Arya Stealth, Focal Clear OG, Meze 109 Pro, the Meze Elite is easily on top of my list for pure music enjoyment. Every headphone has its unique sound signature that it persuits to please a certain number of people, and I know for the fact that there is not a single iem/headphone that can satisfy everyone. This is also what makes this hobby so much fun. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and I have the utmost respect for that, but for me technicality is only one of the features that determine how good a headphone is. When I listen to music, technicality always hits me first, but only for the first 5-10mins. After that, I don't care how much detailed a headphone can pull out of the recording, but I do care how the overall sound, including tonal balance, stage and imaging, makes me enjoy the vocal, the arrangment of instruments, and especially the music. Not that the Elite is not good at technicality, in fact it's very resolving, but because everything else is very impressive as well, so its technicality might have been overlooked. The Elite sounds so smooth and lively that sometimes I forget that I'm wearing a headphone and not in a live concert. The Elite is also top notch regarding enginering, build quality, and comfort. I got the Tungsten version and really like the look and feel of it. HeadAmp once again provided one of the best customer service and competitive pricing by offering a free upgraded premium silver/ copper cable and a extra pairs of earpad when buying the Elite new at no cost. I chose the silver cable and never look back. I do not know how it compared to the copper one, but the sound is full, pure, and resolving to the smallest details without adding any harshness.Overall it's worth every penny and at the end of the day, I'm happy to get lost in the music.
Having recently had neck surgery, the heavier headphones became unusable for me. I tried another lighter weight pair of headphones but I found them lacking in the upper treble region for my ears. Thank goodness, Justin at Headamp will work with you on finding your “right” gear!I decided to try the Meze Elite. I am VERY glad I did! The tuning is such that I can keep the volume lower and not feel like I am missing any of the music. There is a slight rise in the mid bass it seems. Vocals have a slight warmth. Treble comes through with perfection but isn’t sibilant. Dynamics and separation are off the chart good! Details and imaging are spectacular and there is a holographic soundstage. Treble comes through with perfection but isn’t sibilant. Dynamics and separation are off the chart good! Details and imaging are spectacular and there is a holographic soundstage. Yes, they have a very decent amount of slam! They don’t have quite the sub-bass of, say, the Audeze LCD-X but they are close. They make up for it in other areas.Oddly, they remind me slightly of listening to Magnepan 3.7 speakers but with more bass. They are very fast. I like a somewhat “V” shaped sound signature and these kind of have it. They ARE very musical. These with the GS-X Mini are absolute perfection! The icing on the cake is the comfort level. At 430 grams and the way the headband fits and can be adjusted, they literally disappear as far as weight and my neck issues go. I can wear them as long as I want to with ZERO weight or discomfort issues! To get THIS sound and to have no pain from weight or other discomfort is a dream for me! While I hate spending this much money on headphones, they are a clear step up from the HE1000V2 (which weighs the same) and the LCD-X which I consider a ‘best buy’ category. The Elite is a more refined sound across the board. They do benefit from 2 things: 80 hours of break-in and the upgrade Meze silver plated headphone cable! The cable opened them up a tiny bit more and seems to complete their sound.I’m extremely happy with these headphones!
Before I purchased the Elite, the reviews rated it well, but not out of this world. Nevertheless, after reading the giant thread on Head-Fi, I decided to order them. It was my first purchase from HeadAmp, and there were no problems, with very quick shipping and great communications.Out of the box, my first impressions were five-star. The build quality is better than any other TOTL headphone I've tried. For me, comfort is at least as important as sound quality. These are the most comfortable headphones I own. I barely feel them on my head and the large earcups provide a comfortable space around my ears. I initially tried the hybrid pads and liked them. I barely feel them on my head and the large earcups provide a comfortable space around my ears. I initially tried the hybrid pads and liked them. They are airy and comfortable, but I am more used to a structured soundstage, and for that reason, I've enjoyed the thick velour pads more. They provide more cushioning, and I like pressure with pads, so the thicker pads work better for me. I just purchased the lambskin and angled velour pads from HeadAmp, which I'll be trying out soon. Also, the pad replacement process is by far the best for any headphone I own. The way the pads are attached with magnetics feels like something designed by Apple. Now to the sound quality. These are not power-hungry headphones, but to my ears, there are dramatic differences in sound signature depending on the amplification you use. For portable listening, the sound quality was good through my Astell & Kern SP3000 and a bit better through the DX300 Max, but it went to the next level when I connected it to the Cayin C9 portable amplifier. The guitars, drums, and vocals took on a tone more familar to a nice two-channel tube setup. This came out even more when I connected the Elite to the ZMF Pendant SE desktop tube amplifier. The other major thing to keep in mind is burn in. After 50 to 100 hours of burn in, the sound stage improved significantly, and the bass also improved. The Elite has a prominent place in my collection and there's nothing else like it. Highly recommended!
The sound signature is excellent. Not as technical as the LCD-5 but much smoother and easy to listen to for long periods. The Silver cable is also very nice, thick but easy to manage. The headphones are also supremely comfortable. Sales/support and buying advice from Headamp is excellent. Justin is cool!
I have the Abyss Diana Phi version and like it a lot. But every so often it is just a little too much in the higher frequency spectrum. I run it with the Auris NIrvana head amp with Mullard tube upgrades and Hugo2 DAC as my desktop system. Long story long, listening to the tube successful tube upgrades I was wondering if an alternative headphone would give me more of a neutral/slightly warm sound. But I did not want to loose too much of what I like about the Abyss. Well, I contacted Justin and he recommended Meze. With the return policy he offers I went ahead and went for the Elite. And I am happy now, a bold statement for an audiophile who is vested in the “hobby”. First, I can listen to everything for hours without fatigue. The headphones still provide a huge ... The headphones still provide a huge amount of details, but are warmer voiced; or shall I say more neutral. The bass is excellent, does even go deeper than the Diana. The midrange is absolutely stunning, and here the music plays and is driving emotions. Overall, the sound is amazing but with all the investment $s it should! And before I forget, the build quality and beauty are outstanding also. Congrats on a SOTA headphone amp and to Justin for his knowledge. I did only use the upgraded Meze copper cable.
At some point, I started to look at my Sennheiser 660s and was a bit disappointed that I hadn't put in more time to find a better pair. They sound nice, but I was hoping there was something more satisfying out there. After testing a large number of headphones in the price range from $600- $3,000, I felt like most sets had a really nice sound, perhaps one outstanding quality, but... each one had a sacrifice somewhere. I was left wondering if there was an option that gave all the clarity, soundstage, punch, etc without missing anything. Turns out, there is. I tried the Empyrean Elites and immediately knew I was going to take a hit to the wallet. I couldn't find fault. Everything I threw at them sounded amazing; I was literally laughing out loud with joy. They are ... They are surprisingly easy to drive: I seem to be at almost the lowest volume setting on any amp I connect to. A relatively cheap dac/ amp sounds great (Fiio K5), still better than a fancy amp with cheaper phones. The RME ADI-2 dac/ amp sounds absolutely lovely, and the ability to adjust EQ and crossfeed, while not necessary, is a bonus. Even a cel phone connected to a bus powered mini amp still sounds really good (but not quite as good as "proper" amplification). The comfort is unmatched. It often feels nicer wearing the Elites than to not use headphones. I listen for extended multi hour sessions, and aside from one or two little placement adjustments, I am happy to wear them for the whole time. The build quality is astonishing, a joy to look at and hold. This isn't made in a factory, and it shows. The case it comes in is overdone; while great to handcuff this to your wrist while taking the train, it doesn't fit anything useful (like a small dac/ amp or something), and so, beautifully, sits empty in a closet. If you're looking at online review sites, note the Empyrean is different than the Empyrean Elite (or some places just named Elite); this gave me a good deal of trouble after first listening to them and while trying to find excuses not to buy them. At the end of the day, I love these headphones because they just make everything FUN to listen to. Any genre, any track, any age or quality of recording. If the source is reasonable I can happily listen for hours, feeling like I'm getting a presentation that the musicians would approve of. Are they two or three times better than headphones in the $1,500 to $3,000 range? No. But they are noticeably better than any I tried in those tiers. The law of diminishing returns is on display, but if you can afford them, they are certainly better. As many reviewers on this site have said, Travis (owner) gives outstanding customer service, and I have felt lucky to have such a great array of headphones to try at his store. I would never have believed I'd see the value in these headphones without trying the range; if you don't have the luxury of visiting and trying them all to hear for yourself, consider this a big nod of approval for the Elites from a very happy listener.
