Microsoft Surface USB-C Travel Hub

I travel a lot for work as a contractor. This travel hub simply makes life and work a whole lot easier. It's really small, lightweight, and feels well-built.It can connect to most clients' screens or projectors using HDMI or VGA. The large range of ports means I can connect my laptop to most peripherals. The USB ports have pass through power, meaning they can draw power from the laptop to charge connected equipment (e.g. my phone).I would not consider carrying my Surface without this gadget.To answer a common online questions:1) You can only use the hub to connect one additional display (it cannot do HDMI and VGA at the same time).2) It does not charge the laptop. Pass through power is from the laptop to any USB-connected assets only.

Another mediocre piece of hardware from microsoft

The surface pro lacks in ports compared to its competitors like xps. Only recently microsoft implemented a UBS C 10 Gbps port while every other portable laptop is carrying 1-2 thunderbolt 40Gbps ports.Similarly this dock is lackluster. Of course it's not thunderbolt. And it doesn't have the power passthrough feature which is available in alternatives such as satechi. So you can't carry a type C charger for the surface pro 7 around if you need to use this dock. And it has only one ubs type A port. The vga and hdmi interface cannot be used at the same time cause the bandwidth is limited.The only reason I bought this was that the Satechi thunderbolt dock that I tested didn't work properly with surface pro 7. Did exactly what I needed it to. Give my laptop a second monitor. Using a surface laptop 3, although I’m sure this will link up with no problem. This makes doing schoolwork and research so much easier. I have some more ports to plug stuff into and when I want to unplug and take my laptop I can. Of course now I am sheltering in place, but you get the idea. My only gripe is that sometimes the second monitor will just up and lose its connection to the hub and I have to manually unplug and plug back in the usb-c connection of the hub back into the laptop; this fixes everything but it can be annoying. This seems to happen when I am executing certain programs but I can’t figure out exactly why. And that’s where my computer expertise ends.

[Rewarded Review] Awesome Hub but does not play nice with Dell Displ

Solid device. I unfortnuately had to return it because it did not work for. Apparently this thing does not play nice with dell monitors as I was receiving an error everytime I connected it to my G3223Q. Error was (current input timing is incorrect) Seems to be common issue with Dell monitors so i returned this for just the basic USB-C to HDMI. Ports and everything else worked and were super fast. Not knocking this Hub for this issue as it sounds more of something on the Dell end. Just wanted to make sure someone with a Dell monitor looking to purchase this sees this review

I don't know if maybe I got a faulty unit or not, but my hub only half worked. I blamed other things and replaced other things before realizing that it was this Microsoft hub that was the problem, either faulty hub or it was not compatible. Either way, I used the hub on a Macbook Pro, not mine because apple computers are garbage and I'm a gamer, but it had Windows 10 installed on it and used the bootcamp to swap to windows.When my HyperxCloud2 headset was plugged in to the hub, which was connected to my apple via usb-c, only sometimes would the sound work and only for one day did the mic work. Bought another Jabra headset that was USBC and it also did the same thing. Yes i am very knowledgeable with troubleshooting and settings. Updated drivers, etc.Needless to say, I grabbed a Microsoft laptop and plugged the hub into that laptop with the little "usb-c to usb-a" adapter that the hub comes with, and then plugged in my USB Jabra headset with mic to the hub and it still did not work.After that, I ditched the hub and just put the adapter piece directly on to the usb-c thats attached to the headset, meaning I bypassed the hub, and it worked perfectly. So the hub is the problem and now I can't return it.I didnt try any of the other ports but from this experience with just headsets, I doubt the rest of it works.

Works well although you cannot run multiple displays with this adapter. The VGA and the HDMI cannot be used simultaneously, which was pretty disappointing. I've become so accustomed to using dual monitors that I feel so unproductive when I'm stuck with a small laptop screen and 1 other monitor. This has a good feel to it, but I think it is over priced. The only reason I bought this was because I purchased a $2,500 Surface book 3 and did not want to risk damaging it by using the off-brand display adapters. I've experience issues with off-brand adapters before.Overall, it does the job, minus the dual monitor function.

This is a no frills portable hub. Excellent for keeping in your briefcase for whatever strange connection needs may arise. It does not power/charge your Surface and it only allows one USB to be used at a time, but it has been a lifesaver countless times.

Great Product, love the plug and play designBUTone thing that they should list first is that you can run two monitors out of the vga port and hdmi port at the same time, gotta be one or the other (so the vga port is essentially useless or vice versa I think?)Anyway just think they should put that on the cover and not in fine print on the inner packaging.satisfied and will be keeping this product to use with my 2019 surface laptopAlso big shoutout to best by rewards program which actually incentivizes you to leave an honest review,I just want the points and have no reason to lie here

[Rewarded Review] Works Well but not Amazing

This has worked well for my SL3. I needed a second monitor, an external drive and a mouse. However, using the USB on this for a mouse does not work well, there's a lag, so I I had to use the only USB port on my SL3 for the mouse, and used this Hub to connect my monitor and external drive. Bought in may of 2021, and now in Jan 2022 Id say it works well most of the time. Sometimes the cord connection gets on the fritz and my second monitor screen gets super fuzzy. Usually just readjusting the wires helps clear it up.
