I really wanted to like this one. Unfortunately, the front arbor/shaft has excessive vibration and at least 1/32 movement side to side. I removed the plastic nut securing the plastic housing to inspect the front bearing. I was attempting to inspect the front bearing.I was somewhat surprised to find out that I can’t see a bearing. The arbor is riding on the plastic housing itself. And the housing is worn causing a lot of play in the shaft. This is causing a LOT OF VIBRATION.And I’ve only used this tool for a short time. This cordless rotary tool replaced a corded rotary tool that is really popular on the market. I am always looking to move away from corded tools so I was very excited to get this tool. It delivers 5000-32000 RPMs which is controlled by a speed dial on the tool. This thing is extremely compact making for easy use in tight spaces and it weights only 1.3 lbs. with a 1/8” collet, finding accessories for this tool is easy. Because they sell so many different tips for this tool, it becomes a very versatile tool for small job applications. Even at high RPMs, you still have excellent control of the tool at all times.I have a huge set of different tips that I bought that gives me the ability to use this tool in so many different ways. It’s a good tool to have on the job site for that spot you are working on where most tools just do not fit. The tool is so small it takes up very little space in your box. Overall well designed tool!!

I owned one of these for almost 10 years and it finally wore out. I bought a new one but it had some type of defect where it would stop running if you tried to use it above 4 speed. The replacement is better but still not the best. The speed wheel doesn't want to maintain the speed it is set at and it too has stalled out when trying to run at higher speeds. I like the compactness, but that is about it. I have noticed that the quality of the tools and more importantly the quality of the Milwaukee batteries has declined considerably in the past few years. Or maybe it is just the 12V products. I have many Milwaukee cordless tools, 12V and 18V and it is only the 12V's that have issues.

After owning a corded Dremel for so long I can't remember it finally bit the dust. I wanted something with that longevity for sure but with the added convenience of cordless. The choices were somewhat large when I did my research however since I own some Milwaukee tools already and own the 2amp battery that this tool needs it was an easy decision. What I like is the fact that this unit has a removable battery whereas some other units have the battery built in so at some point those units are likely tossed to the trash. The Rotary Tool I found has very little vibration unlike how my old Dremel used to vibrate. This tool is smooth, has the nice dial to control speeds, is very well built and runs very long on a battery charge! Very GOOD!Also it takes all my previous ... I’m a major Milwaukee user being a mechanic and a small business owner, so this purchase made sense. However, from the get go it’s had issues maintaining the Dremel approved accessories (Dremel branded) and also the supplied Milwaukee cutoff wheel. No matter how hard I tightened the collar, it would eventually release and bend the item, particularly my carbide bits. Then the collet decided to twist and break into pieces, and finding one has been such a pain. I tried using a Dremel brand collet but it doesn’t fit well and the supplied collar won’t tighten all the way down. Luckily I found only 1 collet replacement piece (by part number) on Amazon so I can continue using it. Until then I’ll use my 3 year old Dremel that runs as a router, a saw, and a metal forming ... I have a good $5-6,000 in Milwaukee M18, M12, Fuel products from lights to impacts to saws to heated jackets. I used to have a cordless dremel but the battery failed after about a year. I bought a corded one to replace it. It’s worked great thus far but figured that it would be nice to get a Milwaukee cordless instead since I have all the batteries already, and never had a battery go bad, or a tool go bad.Certain bits or attachments will spin perfect on the dreamer, but on the M12 it is way out of balance and vibrates and wobbles like crazy. I’ve had it throw the black plastic collar off during use and across the room, I’ve had it throw cutting discs off. Maybe my expectations were too high, Milwaukee the innovators usually have so much fore thought into the products. This just kinda seems tossed together
I really like my M12 Rotary tool over the Dremel and Ryobi units.PORTABILITYI will have to say that the best feature of the M12 rotary tool is that it fits in the center of a 11 compartment low profile Packout. I have used all the dividers that come with the Packout. All my rotary bits and accessories fill it up perfectly. I will say that you must turn the rotary tool a certain way as it was not meant to be their, but it does work with no issue (considering the way I have it turned). I love the fact that it works with the M12 batteries, allowing me to “cut the cord” by not having to use my Dremel. It also fumiOTHER FEATURESThe battery is easily removed and replaced. Speed selector is easily accessed. Chuck works great and spindle lock is a great feature.
Died just out of the warranty period with minimal use.Was attempting to cut off a small screw with. 1” cutoff wheel when the unit jumped to maximum speed on its own with an electrical burning smell. I immediately turned it off but that was the end of that tool. It wouldn’t start and the lights just blinked. Threw it in the trash the next day.The tool looked like new so I was really disappointed that I paid that much for what I thought was a quality and durable tool. This was the first Milwaukee tool that I was really disappointed in.
I lost the collet that came with my rotary tool & it won’t work with the Dremel brand equivalent. I like using the keyless chuck usually but no matter how hard I tighten it if I go any higher than speed 2 the tool vibrates so much that the chuck comes loose & let’s go of whatever bit I’m using which is incredibly unsafe & limits the use of the tool. I tried searching for the replacement collet on Milwaukee’s website with the product # I got from the replacement parts list & they didn’t come up in the results. If you’re going to make your tool only work with your collet then can you make it readily available for purchase? This review was hard to write because I love Milwaukee tools & I have A LOT of them. This is the only one I have anything negative to say about but ... MoreI lost the collet that came with my rotary tool & it won’t work with the Dremel brand equivalent. Purchased this as a welcome addition to my M12 and M18 tool line up. Was super excited to loose the cord. Tried it out and at the 2 to 3.5 /6 speed setting it had a nasty vibration with Dremel and generic tools in the collet. Return and exchanged for another one. Same issue, slightly different speeds with grinding and cutoff wheels. Took it to the Milwaukee factory service centre, they exchanged for another one, same problem. Abysmal design, QA/QC. Tried the same tools in my other electric rotary tools, no issues. Three strikes and this Milwaukee "tool" is OUTTA HERE!
