I would like to have seen this in a more common size such as the 3 3/8" that would take versacut blades (also allowing for a slightly deeper cut).I would like to see a true wood blade for it if only offered in 3".The Dremel adapter allows for using the 3" wood and plastic sawmax blade, which works fairly well in pine and plywood, but seems to wear out quickly. The diamond blade cuts ceramic tile pretty well, and wears pretty well. The carbide blade is excellent on plastic and pretty good in drywall. Wears very well. The cut off wheels are adequate for nonferrous or thin metals (16d nails take a while to cut, but cuts 1/2 copper pipe excellently). The cut off wheels also seem to wear decently well.I would like to see a more secure way of attaching the dust ... MoreI would like to have seen this in a more common size such as the 3 3/8" that would take versacut blades (also allowing for a slightly deeper cut).I would like to see a true wood blade for it if only offered in 3".The Dremel adapter allows for using the 3" wood and plastic sawmax blade, which works fairly well in pine and plywood, but seems to wear out quickly. The diamond blade cuts ceramic tile pretty well, and wears pretty well. The carbide blade is excellent on plastic and pretty good in drywall. The plastic clip has too much play to effectively use the shoe in a manner similar to a circular saw.The motor is adequate for light jobs, but cutting 3/4 plywood, tile, or 5/8 drywall can bog it down pretty easily.Runs longer on a CP3.0 than I expected. The bi-directional cutting is a nice feature.Would like to see the guard more easily removable for jobs in tight spaces.

I really love the M12 line. The size, lightweight and flexibility, make them great addition to my workshop. This particular cutter is very good but I feel it lost the opportunity to make it more flexible and versatile by not being compatible with 3 3/8" diameter disks (as opposed to 3-inches). The tools comes with 3 blades for ceramic, metal and plastic but bot one for wood. I was looking forward to not have to carry my B&D mini-saw that uses the 3 3/8" dia wood cutting blade. That was a big disappointment to me to the point that I almost returned the tool. From a design and manufacturing standpoint, it would have not taken a big effort to provide the compatibility by increasing the clearance from the blade guard to accomodate for both the 3" and the 3 3/8" blades. ... MoreI really love the M12 line. I use the 3 3/8 wood blade to cut 1/4 - 3/8 plywood because it is easier than using a regular size hand saw. I guess that's what you get when you have engineers designing tools but they don't use them. That said, if all you care about is cutting metal and PVC pipes or ceramic tiles, then this is a very good tool to own.

I have read tons of reviews about this being under powered, overheating, shutting down, etc. Well, it's a 12 volt tool with a 3" cutting wheel... you are not going to use it to cut girders. Now if you need to cut metal or wood like the flat aluminum trim on an aluminum commercial window or to replace a mullion on a french door this is your tool. It will get into places that other hand saws or cutting tools just can't. Just being able to cut tiles accurately around electrical sockets saves me a ton of time. It stays in my tool box because I use it for all the things I never thought I would. It actually does a great job of sharpening chisels and other tools in the field. The only reason I gave it 4 stars was the horrible experience I had buying a reconditioned unit ... MoreI have read tons of reviews about this being under powered, overheating, shutting down, etc. Well, it's a 12 volt tool with a 3" cutting wheel... you are not going to use it to cut girders. I've been using this to cut old nails/screws after removing rotten trim and flooring. Its much cheaper than using my multi tool which eats through blades, and it's better than using a big unruly grinder. Switching directions on a fly is amazing and it almost makes the guard unnecessary. The dust collection housing is great for cutting into plaster and sheetrock, though. Again, it's a step up from the multi tool because you can control depth of cut, suck up all the dust, and save money on blades. I love how small it is too. It's another win for the M12 line up. My experience has been that this isn't meant for cutting wood, but if your in a pinch and you don't mind the mess and smoke, you can use the carbide wheel, just don't expect it to be a clean cut. This little cut off tool is great. I build Tuff Sheds, and on every building the gable trim needs to be cut to fit properly in addition to the door trim. I have used my M18 rear handle circular saw, my super sawzall, angle grinder and have also used my Japanese pull saw. These options all work but none can be carried in my toolbelt. I wasnt sure if the small 3" wheel would cut all the thru the 7/16" trim, or how well the carbide tipped saw blade would do in wood, but found out that this tool was made for this job! It fits in my toolbelt, is light weight, using a 6 ah battery it will handle an entire building and the carbide tipped saw blade makes the cleanest cut, right up there with my Japanese saw. I've also used it to trim down an overlength threshold, cut a lock off of my storage unit, and to cut nails that missed the studs on these sheds. I'm seriously impressed by this little tool. Ive got about 35 M18 tools, 12 batteries, 4 chargers, but this was my first M12 tool. I've since bought the impact, drill, and ratchet. for the right applications these tools are awesome.
I own several Milwaukee battery operated tools. I have always been impressed with the quality, battery life, and performance of the Milwaukee tools. Unfortunately, this is not the case with the M12 FUEL 3" Compact Cut Off Tool. The tool was barely able to cut wood (using a 3" Loonpon HHS Saw Blade). The saw depleted two new, fresh M-12 batteries, in less than 14" of cutting a pine board. I did not use the saw for cutting metal. The saw does not seem to have enough power to function as a useful tool.
I bought it use around our farm to cut metal, exhaust pipes, sheet metal, rebar etc. It looked like it would be really handy. We use zip wheels on angle grinders a lot but this looked like it would be much easier to control. We use Milwaukee 12m and 18 volt tools and they are great so I had high expectations for this tool. Boy, was I disappointed. The first project I used it on was exhaust pipe on my tractor. It bogged down when I put any pressure on it. I had to go back to my angle grinder with the zip wheel to get the job done. Please Milwaukee give us a more powerful version of this tool. It’s a great idea! I love your 12 and 18 volt fuel line but this tool is way underpowered.
I find this to be a very hand friendly tool to use the biggest problem I discovered on the one and only time I’ve used it. The problem is I was sold 2amp batteries was cutting a 1/16 inch piece of aluminum, was doing 6 cuts. The piece was 10 inches in length and 6 inches wide, the cuts were in half then into 7 coupons. I used 4 batteries from full charge to a dead battery to achieve this. I’d like to know if a higher amperage battery will serve the operation of this tool any better cuz with a 2amp battery it’s only good for cutting paper. Was not impressed.
I purchased this Milwaulkee tool in a kit form (with dust shroud, 4Ah battery and charger) solely based on a YouTube video review that was using it to cut plaster on a plaster and lath wall. I'm not invested in the Milwaulkee platform (I have Ridgid tools and batteries), but I needed to cleanly remove plaster and "Rocklath"( a 3/8" transitional material used after wood lath, but before drywall) during a client bathroom remodel. The bathroom had plaster crown molding and I wanted to preserve it, which necessitated cutting cleanly 6" below and tying in modern drywall. I've experienced enough plaster dust clouds to appreciate any tool that mitigates it. Ridgid and Ryobi both have similar tools in 18 volt, but TTI has decided not to make a dust shroud for them, which is ... MoreI purchased this Milwaulkee tool in a kit form (with dust shroud, 4Ah battery and charger) solely based on a YouTube video review that was using it to cut plaster on a plaster and lath wall. The bathroom had plaster crown molding and I wanted to preserve it, which necessitated cutting cleanly 6" below and tying in modern drywall. I've experienced enough plaster dust clouds to appreciate any tool that mitigates it. Ridgid and Ryobi both have similar tools in 18 volt, but TTI has decided not to make a dust shroud for them, which is unfortunate since both are 18V versus the 12V Milwaukee, plus I'm already invested in Ridgid.Firstly, this saw is not powerful enough to be used in this application, IMHO. I was careful to keep the blade in a straight line to avoid binding the rear of the blade, but even the slightest deviation would cause the thermal overload to trip.Secondly, the 3" blade has only a 3/8" cutting depth. I was dealing with a 1/2" plaster on 3/8" drywall, so the wheel wasn't capable of doing a complete cut. I've seen plenty of lath and plaster walls that had a plaster layer that thick as well. This isn't a fault of this tool, but a limitation of these 3" cutters in general.Thirdly, I was only able to get 3/4 ways around the 5'x8' room before the 4Ah needed to be charged. I did purchase a two pack of batteries in anticipation of this happening, but I'll be returning them in light of the overall sub par performance of this tool.Fourthly, as a southpaw, getting my hand around the grip to pull the trigger with the dust shroud in place was a challenge. I don't have sausage fingers, but anyone who does and is left handed is going to find it a challenge. At least the Reverse setting is south paw friendly.A good try, TTI tool engineers, but back to the drawing board.
