On picking up this tool for the first time, the weight for its nice compact size says this thing is pure quality! This Milwaukee has 4 easy to set speeds. It is a SURGE HYDRAULIC and this is the quietest impact drill I have ever used. In fact, it is so quiet and the impacting feels so light to the touch, at first, youll think its a weak driver. But wait! be very careful, because youll find yourself having to readjust your feel and your lack of hearing loud impacting when this beast drives a wood screw out of site! Rethink how you use to work with an impact because it really gets the job done in a hurry. Glad I bought it and it is superior to the old Milwaukee I used for years that finally wore out. Buy it, Youll like it !

This is a small impact driver, using the M12 battery system. Ordinarily I use my M18 system for all my big jobs. There are noise problems with regular impact drivers, and many clients do not wish the racket they make. This tool was listed as the quietest impact driver on the market. It is.Even though it is a 12 volt system, it is as smooth and powerful as you could ask for on ordinary construction projects. And it is quiet! This is what I have been looking for since I first bought an impact driver. Because it is smaller than the M18 driver, it is lighter, and actually a real treat to use. The first project I gave it a test on, I was bedding 3" screws like nothing. And the noise level was no louder than my regular M18 drill. 5 stars for doing what it said it would do!

The motor runs even more inconsistently than before, and sounds a bit different from when I used it.Twice since I received it back, the driver stopped while driving two different deck screws as if it was in self tapping mode but it was in speed 3 or at least the light was. I had heard about some surges heating up but didn't experience that problem before. After the warranty work, it got hot to the touch after about three minutes of intermittent running free with no bit while I tried to figure out where the cat was stuck.The high pitched whine when the trigger is depressed but before the chuck starts turning is still there.I haven't been ableto determine if its part of normal operation or a flaw. Personally, it bothers me enough to stop using it. I'm really impressed with the capabilities, and was looking at about ten different m12 tools as I'm between cordless lines. Its a great concept, but my personal experience has been short of milwaukees excellent reputation.

This driver is possibly the most used tool in my arsenal now. I had been using a B+D 20v for a while and it really was a handy tool with decent power and it did the job. It finally burned out so I decided I wanted to match out the rest of my Milwaukee collection and after reading several reviews and using a work buddy's for a job I was completely sold on the Surge. The 3 speeds plus self-tapping screw function are what make this driver stand out, along with the torque to truly put fasteners in quickly and consistently. Paired with my M12 XC 4ah battery and I had no worries about running out of power.

I honestly think this tool (the Surge) is much more accessible to the average non-DIYer than a drill/driver. It is super quiet and small, so it isn’t intimidating whatsoever. Changing bits is also much simpler, you don’t even have to pull the collar forward to insert a new bit, you only pull it forward to release the current one. The LED is nice and bright and makes a good temporary flashlight in a pinch.Out of the box this thing is a banger, and I can’t think of anyone that uses a drill/driver that wouldn’t appreciate this tool above all others. I know I do. The only downside to the kit is Milwaukee doesn’t appear to offer a kit with a big platform battery. I’m very used to standing my tools up, so the 6.0AH battery is definitely going to be a necessary addition. As I also work on my own cars, The Stubby Impact Wrench is next after the battery. Really the M12 Surge Impact Driver is nothing short of a gateway drug. I can’t say enough good things about it.
This is literally my favorite power tool. I own somewhere n the neighborhood of 40 cordless power tools from all different brands (I review them for YouTube videos) and this is the one I grab when I need to get a job done. It's a fist full of steel. Small, light, powerful and ready to work. It's quieter than a traditional impact driver and even more powerful. The 12v battery lineup is quick and easy to work with and the three speeds/torque settings on this make it a great little tool for whatever I need done.
I thought the gen 3 M12 kit was bad mother, light weight great power, nice and small for tight spots then I bought the surge and haven’t looked back . This M12 has the same power as some of those other 18 and 20 volt impacts. I only wish I would have gotten it sooner. If you don’t have one what are you waiting for? Go get one and you will never look back. This is by far one of the best tools I’ve ever bought. Plus a 5.0 ho lasts a couple weeks boxing out walls, driving tapcons, wall dogs,strapping conduit, this is all day use. I’ve had this for about 4 months and it’s an amazing tool.

Don't really feel the impacts untill there's decent resistance, which I like for drilling. It's NOT an impact wrench, if you try it on lug nuts you're an idiot. I was skeptical of sheet-metal screw setting #4, but i'll be darned if it didn't work great!. Sustained torque through the rotation really does deliver better/smoother force on the screw/drill/etc and that makes for better control. Difference in feel between this and an impact is akin to positioning a chunk of steel around with a ball-peen, then switching to a dead-blow. ... Use the high-output batteries, get the full motor capability. Setting #1 is SLOW (that's good). I have a great drill, but it's not "handy" for one-off jobs... This is small enough to be with me all the time. ONLY improvements I'd make: 3-leds on the face behind the chuck (like the impact) instead of below, and push-in lock on the chuck (just my preference)
I found this noticeably quieter than the standard impact. I was concerned with the lower rates force compared to the regular impact driver, but this thing sank 3” screws into 2x4s without missing a beat. It shocked me that it was not much louder than the clutch on my m12 screwdriver. A welcome addition for any indoor work, particularly if doing work in an office setting. The lower noise is great. Power is great. Compact and fits great in the hand.

People can actually talk and hear when I'm working in close proximity. I am so impressed. It has very good control at slower speeds. It has four settings for power and speed which I keep it mostly in the #2 position. Installing small screws in hinges and drawers slides is so nice and controllable. I love it. Its small and gets intotighter areas than my Makita. I wonder why someone would sell it after using it. Their loss my gain. This is the "Surge" model which is hydraulic. This is what makes it so quiet and and controllable at lower speeds. And when you need the extra power for driving screws fast and deep it shines there as well. The only downside is that you I can't "feel" the screws tighten up as well. It just keeps going with not much in the way of sound pitch changing as the screw tightens up. I've over tightened a few times which strips out the wood. I've had to get used to this and learn how it reacts as it gets tight. Minor issue, and the only thing I can find fault with. Batteries last a long time with this tool. It costs a fair amount more than its very similar "non" surge model, but for the professional it is totally worth it.
