The product came well packaged, and there were no signs of obvious damage. All pieces were accounted for and clearly marked. Assembly was straightforward, with simple instructions. With two people working slowly and carefully, assembly took about 60 min, including unpacking and clean up. After filling with water, the system is heavy and difficult to move. It took three people to move it up the driveway. The design would be improved if there were four wheels with two that lock in place. The quality of the materials is excellent. There is very little shaking or wiggling in the backboard and rim. It's a very solid and sturdy build. The clear backboard is wonderful, and has a nice rebound to it. It's size is also enviable for portable systems and doesn't feel small. The rim is also excellent quality and feels like you're playing on a professional court. The design would also be improved if the system could somehow fold down for storage, but that might be asking too much. Overall, I highly recommend this product.

This is a good hoop. Great and easy set up. It took me and my wife 32 min to set up. I was timing it haha. Here is where I wish they would have taken it a step further to make this the perfect “portable” system. Put lockable wheels on the base to make it easy to move. I collapse it all the way to the point where the backboard lies on the ground. I know that’s not what you want us to do but if it was intended and the whole unit could be moved easily at this stage it would be a game changer. You could put it in your garage each night in HOAs like mine that don’t want you to leave it out overnight.Apart from that I like the sturdiness. I bought it from academy sports and it was the 54” version that didn’t have the cover under the backboard on the pole. No biggie. I ... MoreThis is a good hoop. Great and easy set up. Bought this goal as a Christmas gift for our two boys who both play basketball. Glad we bought this goal. It is worth the money.#1 benefit is it is so easy to assemble. We used the video posted on the Spalding website showing how to assemble it. Made the processes easier.#2. Solid construction.#3. Make sure to fill it with water. I like that the base is larger than other cheaper goals we have used in the past. It is really solid. It got really windy a few days ago. There was zero chance of it falling over.#4. The only minor issue we ran in to after it was filled with water is it takes two people to move it. Make sure you build it where you intend to hoop. I doubt we could have moved it far.

Put this together in maybe an hour, only took longer because I did it myself and I didn’t have a hose handy. Used one of our patio table chairs (which was the exact right height) to rest the backboard on when I was attaching that… had to run back and forth with gallons of water to fill the base so that took the extra time. All of that being said this thing practically puts itself together. Packaged well, parts organized, directions complete. Everything is quality. Good solid hoop. Super pleased with the result. Only part I was slightly uncomfortable/confused about was tightening the t-bolt when attaching the hoop but that was more me not really understanding the concept of this breakaway rim. But when I followed the directions it came together just as it was ... MorePut this together in maybe an hour, only took longer because I did it myself and I didn’t have a hose handy. This is good for what it is and probably the best of the portable hoops out there. It was easy to set up and with cleaning everything up it was probably around an hour to set up. We had a couple of issues, the backside of backboard had a pretty significant white scuff on it and the film that covered the front was under the frame and hard to remove. Otherwise it’s good. I think they should provide base gel with these units in the future as well.
Disappointed that I spent the extra money for the 54" inch clear clear view backboard. Upon arrival, the backboard had white streaks running down most of the backboard. Tried to clean them off but it seems like its embedded into the acrylic. Emailed the company and haven't heard back. Kids were excited and couldn't wait to use it and I was tired of waiting for a response from the company so I wound up putting it together. Set-up was easy enough but overall disappointed in the quality of the backboard.
Spalding as a company is deleting negative reviews. Currently Spalding is selling recalled units to Amazon under the newly engineered model. I left 2 reviews and within 24 hours they have all been deleted. I will also post the same on Amazon where they will be unable to delete. This demonstrates my previous deleted review of the poor customer support and business practice Spalding is displaying. I was on call with Spalding for nearly 5 hours and not once would Spalding send me documentation on the newly engineered model nor would Spalding allow me to speak to a manager. Instead, the customer service Rep would ask management questions and then come back to me with their answer. Until my 2 recalled units are rectified by Spalding I will continue to update this forum. ... MoreSpalding as a company is deleting negative reviews. Spalding, you are extremely disappointing and unbelievably NON TRANSPARENT. Hopefully kids do not get injuries with your selling of recalled products! Stop deleting reviews that you don’t like and show your consumers integrity!!!
Very stable backboard that doesn't move even in 20 to 30 mph winds. The part that took the longest to accomplish was the filling with sand. Took almost an hour to fill while using a funnel. 375lbs of sand fit easy. One person assembly, was so EASY. Few parts. Used tomato cages to hold up the backboard when needed. Easy to lift into place. Took 34 min to assemble. Plays like a hoop you would find at a nice gym.
I purchased the 54" Clear Acrylic version based on the desire for a clean, clear transparent look. My box arrived a bit banged up but thankfully nothing seemed damaged inside. The print manual included in the box and on this site is adequate - and from what I hear, much better than competing brands. The Interactive video on this site is awesome - I found it to be very well done. The first thing I encountered that was a big disappointment was that after carefully and meticulously removing the transparent backboard film (as instructed) I saw that the backboard is "etched" with streaks that don't seem to want to come off. I have tried, but they wont come off. They almost look like either streaks or adhesive residue, but I don't think that's what it is. This defeats the entire purpose of the "Clear View" backboard and certainly is not what the pics look like. The rest of the assembly was pretty easy except the orange metal rim cover that covers the spring assembly was a bit frustrating. The left screw would not screw all the way in no matter how many times I lined everything up perfectly. The right one went in fine. Also, I find that the rim assembly should be tighter to the backboard. I assembled it exactly as instructed and tightened everything as much as possible. I also tightened the bolt that goes through the middle of the spring, thinking maybe the spring wasn't depressed enough to the 1/8" recommended screw exposure. Still I feel that the rim after assembly is a bit too "bouncy" when a ball hits it. Finally, the base has a depressed area all around the inside. It seems to have drainage holes of some sort in a couple areas but not in the front. After rain, standing water collected in the inside front of the base and just sits there...like a decent size puddle. Annoying as I don't like giving mosquitos any opportunity to multiply. For the money, the hoop is adequate and I feel the ease of assembly makes the whole thing worth it, but the backboard streaks are def disappointing.
