Having a 50th Birthday in lockdown was not filling me me with a great deal of excitement, that was until my Wife drove me to Richer sounds in Bath to pick up my surprise, a pair of Monitor Audio Silver 300’s and an audio technica turntable. Now my Wife has no real interest in here and would be the first to admit she knows nothing about such things, but with the help of Fred and at the Bath branch she managed to explain my current set up and what I wanted, Fred helpfully filled in the blanks with his recommendations and made my wife feel confident that all could be returned and exchanged if it was not what I wanted or if I didn’t like them after trying them. Well I am glad for their assistance as I am now a very happy owner of some superb sounding speakers, the clarity and separation of individual instruments is really impressive. Powered off my Denon avx-2700h they are delivering a great sound, especially now having had them for a couple of weeks. They have also slotted in nicely with my Kef KHT 3005se’s center and surround speakers. Movies sound amazing a big upgrade. On top of this, the quality in the build is superb, they look and feel like they should cost a lot more with the veneer cabinets. I would definitely recommend these and as a multiple returning customer to Richer Sounds Bath I would also undoubtedly recommend them. Thank you guys. Just need to convince the Wife I need the matching center speaker ;)

After extensive auditioning of floorstanders, the minute I heard the MAS-300 speakers I loved them, and knew they had to be mine! I had considered the Monitor Audio Silver 500s as I really liked the bass extension on them too, but realistically they were too large for my 17’ x 12’ room. And I figured that I could always add additional Bass with a sub at a later point if required. Plus, I actually preferred the upper mids and top end in the 300s. The MAs sounded totally immersive from the beginning, whatever I play is enhanced by listening through them, and to my surprise the bass sounded much better at home than it had when auditioning them at Richer Sounds so I was well pleased. They sounded warm and musical right out of the box, that being said they very quickly relaxed revealing even more depth and character across midrange, top end and bass. Sound and music is reproduced in a very realistic way, some recordings sound so good, you can almost believe the instruments are playing in your room. The sound stage can be really good too. The quality of the music or sounds depends on the source…to a degree, but no need to fret, it is never shrill, fatiguing, or even unpleasant, even with poor recordings, they manage to push out an enjoyable sound. Bass is a sophisticated bass that is absolutely engaging, ‘genuine’ bass, not ‘synthetic’ in any way, not boom boom, or thud thud…instead, you can really identify what sound or instrument is being represented…and believe, when pushed these bad boys do represent! If I had to describe the Monitor Audios in one word, it would be addictive…it’s always a wrench turning them off! lol..so all I can say is if your budget allows, they should definitely be part of any auditioning list. They are worth every penny, and will not disappoint. Finally, a big, big thanks to Pete and Tony of the Norwich Richer Sounds for giving a great deal on the speaker exchange and the terrific customer service…as always!

Bought these for my home cinema, as I replaced pair of B&W CM7's (which served me well for 10 years). Out of the box first impression very well packed. Comes with feet which needs to be assembled. Once covers and packaging removed you are greeted with a beautiful tall handsome looking speakers. Connected to Yamaha RX A3080. Please note these speakers will need some running in so do not expect them to sound amazing at start. after some 20 hours of running in the magic begins. Starting with top end - sound so clean and open, Mids punchy and puts it in-line with the highs giving it a perfect balance. Lows are controlled and tonal. Overall sounds very wide and clean. After lots of research I narrowed my choice down to the MA200 or 300 Silvers. Wanted the 300’s but was concerned they would be too big for my living room.. they probably are but they’re such a beautiful speaker in glass black and sound even better so no regrets! I think I’d always have been thinking what if with the 200’s. Still running these bad boys in but they sound awesome straight out of the box tbh. I’ve got them paired with Cambridge CXA61, CXC, CXN and a Pro-Ject X1 turntable (with Cambridge Duo phono stage). Compared to the LS50’s that I upgraded from, they’ve definitely taking it to a whole new level for me, especially where the lows are concerned.. I purchased these Monitor Audio Silver 300 7G as an upgrade to my Bronze 200 6G fllorstanders, and wow what a big step up. The finish on the cabinets is simply incredible. I was a bit dubious in having the piano black high gloss finish, but once they arrived and placed in my living place I was more than pleased. I auditioned quite a few fllorstanders including the KEF Q750 and the finish on these is miles ahead. I am still running them in but even straight out the box I was instantly impressed with the depth of not only the lower frequencies but the overall soundstage and clarity of vocals and upper frequencies. Steve the store manager at the Reading branch was so helpful and patient with me in making the decision to purchase and I am so glad I did. Steve the store manager at the Reading branch was so helpful and patient with me in making the decision to purchase and I am so glad I did. Many Thanks to him and all the staff at Reading. The Silver 300's are outstanding with both music and movies and add a feeling and depth that I have never experienced before. Certain notes and tones that I never heard with my Bronze 200's come through with these speakers. I have them paired with my Yamaha RXA1080 for now but expect even better separation and clarity once I add an Emotiva BasX A3 power amp. If you are looking at floorstanding speakers audition a few as I did but for me the Monitor Audio was simply a cut above the rest for not only sound quality, staging and emersion but the quality finish of the cabinets is simply outstanding!!
I spent about three and a half hours auditioning speakers over two days at the Brighton branch. I was initially interested in the Tannoy XT6F and 8F but was not particularly impressed with the build quality although they sounded ok. There was a pair of the Monitor Audio Silver 200 in the demo room which were in a completely different league when it came to build and finish but sounded less exciting than the Tannoys. I asked if it was possible to audition the Silver 300, was told they would be happy to order them in for me to hear and arranged to call back a couple of days later - excellent service! I asked if it was possible to audition the Silver 300, was told they would be happy to order them in for me to hear and arranged to call back a couple of days later - excellent service! On hearing the 300s for the first time, the midrange really socked me between the ears! The 300s have a mid driver that the 200s lack, and it shows. Bass and treble was there ok but it was the midrange that stood out and the soundstage with it. This was what I was looking for. These were more or less fresh out of the box and had been left running overnight for me so only a few hours use. They were a bit raucous really but I reckoned that when run in they would calm down slightly and so I decided to take a punt and bought them. I am driving them with music (Tidal HiFi/Master and flac files) streamed from a laptop to a Chord Hugo TT and Chord TToby amp running balanced. They have now had about 90 hours and have indeed calmed down a bit. A little lower mid/upper bass warmth appeared after about 30 hours which helped a lot, particularly with vocals. As time has gone by the soundstage has become more defined including depth, treble is sweeter and bass is much more authoritive. These babies can rumble! Percussion is astonishing with, for example, cymbals actually sounding like cymbals, a brushed drumskin being clearly heard etc. Room placement does make a difference and these cabinets have been tuned to be fairly close (2 - 3 feet) to a rear wall. I found just a slight toe-in to suit my room best. Mine are in the gorgeous walnut veneer finish and look beautiful. If you audition a pair bear in mind that they need to be run in so do not be put off if they sound overly bright, they will calm down! The only thing that could be improved are the outrigger feet. I think the plates the feet screw to need to be thicker as it is possible to very slightly rock the top of the cabinet even if all four spikes are bedded to the floor. I think the plates flex slightly though I doubt if the sound is affected. Great job Monitor Audio!
I bought these as an upgrade to MA Bronze speakers and the Silver 300s are a big step up in sound quality across the entire frequency response. The 3 way design really does help with the audio reproduction and keeping everything very clear. Clarity and quality, as well as quantity, of bass is excellent too. The finish on the speakers themselves are very high quality and the speakers feel extremely solid - the wood grain makes it fit in very well amongst the other furniture. Highly recommend these even if slightly over the planned budget - the quality long term is worth it.
Bought these as they had a lower bass frequency then most other speakers in this price range. They are not cheap but when you open the box you can certainly see what you've paid for. They look fantastic and the build quality is exceptional. I have them in a room that is twelve feet by ten feet with a bay at the end that holds a two seater sofa, so a bit small for what is recommended. I've set them quite close to the walls and tilted them in forty five degrees and this gives the best soundstage. They come with baffles that you can put in the ports which I have put in as this controls the bass. This is recommended in the manual if you cannot set as recommended and work really well. There is no loss of bass frequency depth but it tightens it up well. The speakers are ... MoreBought these as they had a lower bass frequency then most other speakers in this price range. I ordered these Silver 300 floor standing speakers many weeks ago and only just got them last week. However they seem to have been well worth the wait. Bi-wired to my Denon 4700 av receiver as the front speakers of my 7.1 system the sound quality is already rich detailed and very revealing and Monitor Audio state that full performance is obtained only after 50 hours of ‘running-in’. Whether listening to music or watching a movie these speakers have great presence. The gloss black finish reflects the high quality of the product and looks great in my room. Thanks to Richer Sounds in Bournemouth who took the time to deliver and commission the speakers in my home. I am delighted with both the product and the service from RS.
My CD player had started skipping after 16 years and when I got it repaired I had a listen to a much newer and twice the price player as a comparison. What I heard surprised me, the Rega CD player sound in the system at the dealer was so much better than in mine. At this point I knew I needed to replace either my amplifier or speakers or both. I have plenty dynamic power with my Audiolab amp and KEF iQ7 speakers but, whilst I hear the notes I don't hear the instruments. That said, the 200 seemed a bit bass light compared to the iQ7. Popping into the Milton Keynes Richer Sounds a few times when I'm between trains on my journey and chatting with staff there helped me make a decision on the speakers. I knew that I liked the sound from the 200s and they are about the same size as my KEFs, albeit thinner. I was unsure about going for the taller 300s which go deeper and therefore more likely to give me that solidity in the bass. Once I'd made the decision to buy, it then took another day to decide on the finish. During that day Walnut was the only finish I did not consider. I liked the look of the black, the adaptability of the white and the 'fits all' of the ash. I ordered the gloss black. Ordered on Wednesday morning, delivered Thursday afternoon. Initially I was annoyed, no hex / allen keys in the box to fit the feet with, off to my tool box. When I moved on to the second one and opened up the box, they were in that one. Open the tops of both boxes first, the box with the instruction leaflet has the allen keys in it. fitting the feet might be easier with two people. I rested the speaker sideways with the base overhanging the end of the sofa. Out of the box the black finish is good and the narrower width compared to my iQ7 makes them less noticeable. I was concerned that their size and black finish might make them too dominating in the room. This is also helped by the fact that the wall behind them is a black and grey pattern. They not only blend in well but the visual presentation quality has made me think I need to freshen up the paint on the skirting board !, Initially I was concerned that I was getting really powerful bass, too much so. after a few more hours running in the bass overload went and the midrange and treble started to run in and now, a few days later there is a very good balance. Still more running in hours to go before they are at their optimum, however, how they are sounding now very much confirms how much better they are than my previous speakers which now sound muddy and uninteresting in comparison. These will probably be run in about the time I'll get my new amplifier.
