Monkey 47 Schwarzwald Dry Gin 500ml

(1,014 reviews)

Monkey 47 gin is from the Black Forest in Germany and contains the unique ingredient of Lingonberries. The 47 comes from the number of botanicals that go into this unique gin includinglavender, almond, mint, elderberry and aromatic herbs from native plants. There is the scent of pine, fresh citrus notes and earthy accents. This is followed by spices, including black pepper, cinnamon and nutmeg and then the florals of violets and honeysuckle. Nose - woody, vegetable smells underpin fresh grassy citrus notes and botanical sweetness, like a pine forest after the rain. Palate - It's a complex, robust and powerful gin with plenty of spice, fruit and herb flavours.

A sipping gin? Yes!

If you ever wished there was a true sipping gin, Monkey 47 might be the answer to your yearnings. The flavor palette—there's a lot going on here, with a nice bloom of rose petals as a finisher—is something to be savored. Aside from the fact that it's a wee bit too pricey to pour into liberally sized long drinks, I'd say the delicate aromas would be wasted on anything but maybe a 5:1 Martini. Is this a must-drink? It depends on what you like to do with your gin. I for one love my GTs and Aviations, but every once in a while, I like to taste what the distiller was tasting. This bottle is certainly the one to do that with.

Amazing gin, worth saving for

Well, where to start... confession time - I bought this gin two days ago and the bottle is nearly empty! It has been shared with three very appreciative friends. It's much pricier than my usual big brand bottle, and I was a little crestfallen when I realised it was just 50cl. However, no regrets. This gin really is superb. There is a floral aroma when you first remove the cork from the very handsome apothecary shaped bottle, though the floral notes didn't really carry through to the drinking; it's very clean, crisp, smooth and delicately flavoured. it also packs a whopping 47% alcohol content. We enjoyed with a good quality tonic and ice (it's far too good to mix in cocktails). For the second glasses we added a slice of lemon, but decided probably its best without. ... MoreWell, where to start... confession time - I bought this gin two days ago and the bottle is nearly empty! Amazing range of botanicals and taste sensation.

Smooth and dialled back on the pine (Juniper berries) so the other delicate botanicals come forward. However, there is no chance you would taste all of the botanicals that make up this really distinctive gin. I have had it with tonic and it was lovely, however each sip tends to taste differently because there are so many different flavours to it, I really liked this as makes it more interesting rather than the same taste each sip! I wouldn?t want to mix it with anything other than tonic because it would spoil the uniqueness of the gin.

By far should be in top 5 Gins
25 May 2023

First has this in Limerick Ireland in 2018. Amazing small restaurant, owners were big gin fans and we shared our favorites in conversation. They brought this out to our table and it has been our top gin since that trip. Distinct and crisp juniper berry and fragrant 47 herbs. We love it with Fever Tree tonic of your choice. Serve in a cab wine goblet with fresh picked clear ice, garnish with your favorite gin herb or citrus. Makes an amazing French 75 too🍸🥂

Great for a neat pour of Gin
31 May 2023

I'm a Whiskey enthusiast normally but have been trying to branch out into other spirits. I generally enjoy my gin with tonic water, but I actually would recommend against it for Monkey 47. It has a complex palate that is reminiscent to me of some of the complexity you can see in some single malt scotches but still tasting clearly like a very botanical gin. I have been drinking it neat the last few nights and highly recommend it.

Lovely and round flavour!
9 December 2021

First impression is fantastic, the bottle and packaging has a beautiful design. It is a bottle you want to show off. Lovely and round flavour with an excitingly fruity and slightly sour aftertaste. I tend to find "regular" gin brands relatively similar, but this one actually does stand out. It is really refreshing and offers a more interesting flavour. Also, the old style bottle and packaging makes it even more appealing and a great gift.

Overpriced & Overhyped (but enjoyable)
11 August 2021

Monkey 47 Schwarzwald Dry Gin definitely has a deep earthy note that other gins lack, and this makes it unique... But it's absolutely not worth $70. Unless you like t drink gin straight? Most craft cocktails I make with gin (Collins variations, Bees Knees, gimlets with cucumber and mint, and even dirty martinis with garlic stuffed olives) taste every bit as delicious with an affordable gin like Bombay Sapphire. This is because you can accomplish complexity and earthy layers with other ingredients, from bitters to fresh herbs and syrup infusions... You truly don't have to spend this much. At the end of the day, this is a bottle to display conspicuously on your home bar so your guests know you have a hefty disposable income. But it's not a necessary pour.

Wonderfully Complex and So Tasty!
27 December 2022

So Absolutely Wonderful! So complex as it is distilled from 47 botanicals, they dance across your pallet and release their unique flavors along the way! I tasted sweet, fruit, spicy notes, along with an almost cinnamon finish. But that’s just a first sip, with each additional sip, it unveils more flavors. A Must Try!

Worth every penny
25 November 2021

I do like my gin, and with a big wedding anniversary looming decided to treat myself to this.I did baulk a bit at the price, even more so when I realised it was only for a 50ml bottle, but am so pleased I did.Not a fan of flavoured gin, I like my gin to taste of gin, not of rhubarb, parma violet or whatever this weeks' new fangled flavour is. And this definitely tastes of gin. It's delicious. I just had it with premium tonic, it's too good to waste as a cocktail base. Will drink this slowly but will definitely buy again.
