Montblanc Explorer Ultra Blue 60ml

Mont Blanc Explorer Ultra blue is a fresh and bright aquatic summer fragrance. You get a touch of fruitiness in the opening from bergamot mixed with some spiciness from pink pepper along with a very sea salty vibe from the aquatic notes. As it dries down it becomes a bit woody and earthy which comes from the leather, wood accords, and patchouli. It is a smooth composition that blends well and transitions nicely. Longevity from this fragrance is about average, with around 4 - 5 hours on my skin with moderate projection. This is a good daytime scent and is suitable for the office. It can be worn for formal or non formal occasions as it is not overly sweet or overbearing. I know that sounds strange when reading a review of a scent, but it is the truth. Montblanc says the fragrance "embraces the explorer's adventurous spirit to embark on an epic olfactory journey." I don't know about all that, but I will say the notes of bergamot and citrus with hints of marine, fine woods, and leather make for a unique and pleasant aroma. The scent lingers through the day but not as long as other scents I have worn in the past. I wasn't sure if I would use this as my daily scent yet; after using it for a while now to write this review, I must say I will continue to use it. Its a pretty good, safe but boring crowd-pleaser which that's what a designer is going to be majority of the time. To me this smells like YSL Y EdP. As the dry down starts I notice the saltiness of the sea notes pop out just a little. When it reached the drydown I was left with wood and leathery type of smell with the salt and a hint of the bergamot in the back. The last thing is the bottle. It's actually a great heavy bottle that just screams summer blue fragrance. I recommend it still for that fact that it's an extremely safe buy that you won't go wrong with the people around you.

I DO NOT recommend keeping your bottles in the car, but if you had this in the dash on a beach trip for the week it would feel appropriate. Its got an energy to the opening that is spur of the moment. You pop into the car, spray it on everyone and drive. It's like one guy brought a bottle of cologne along, and suddenly its the communal bottle for the trip. This fragrance is made for a man with bold taste. Being an EDP this cologne starts with a strong kick, but as the day continues the wear doesn’t stay as strong as it should for an EDP. Although I do prefer the nice lingering sent it provided when worn for longer periods of time, it did not deliver on a stronger long wear. Personally this isn’t a sent I would particularly go for because it just isn’t my favorite, but objectively it smells good and I did receive several compliments while wearing it. My Dad ended up snatching the cologne from me so definitely it is some people’s cup of tea. I do really like the packaging though. The weight of the bottle and cap feel nice and luxurious. It's very neutral, a safe and bring choice. If you're looking for an inoffensive cologne you can wear to the office or while running errands, look no further. But I prefer unique scents, scents that stand out and make you do a double take, the ones you walk past and feel compelled to ask the wearer what it is, where you can get it, and how much it costs. Unfortunately, this cologne fades into the background. You can find cheaper options that will give you the same scent profile, a lot of musk and a little bit of spice. I’m someone whom doesn’t wear much cologne. When I do, it’s generally around the holidays or for special occasions. I’m not a fan of some brands, due to how they smell. I was eager to try MontBlanc Explorer Ultra Blue to find out how much I would like it overall. First off, I have to say, that the bottle is huge! It will take me quite some time to use this one bottle alone. It has a nice color variation with the blue glass bottle and silver accents. The scent is appealing, but not overpowering. It doesn’t make you want to gag or cough uncontrollably after applying it. This version has a woodsy, outdoorsy scent that isn’t heavy. The scent tends to linger, but it’s not loud at all. You may even forget that you’re wearing it altogether. It doesn’t have a vulgar, strong smell that some colognes do. You’re able to spray several areas of your body and not feel like you doused yourself in it. The cologne is light and has the right combination of scents. I noticed when using the cologne, that the areas I sprayed it on, didn’t cause me to break out into rashes. Which sometimes happens with other brands I have tried and used. This was a huge bonus for me. If you deal with skin irritation when wearing colognes, this version is one that will likely work for you. Granted, it is a bit expensive, and I’m not one to generally spend too much on cologne. However, with its size, it’s likely to last for quite some time and makes it worth the splurge. MontBlanc Explorer Ultra Blue is a brand that I will definitely be using for a long time to come. I’m really glad I had the chance to try out this brand and highly recommend you try it for yourself.

Montblanc used to be known for pens, but the digital age probably, caused it to change its priorities. Their legend EDT helped them become an established fragrance, although some argue that’s a clone of A+F Fierce. I see why as some similarities, but they are cousins at least. It saddens me that the blue Ultra Blue is a total disaster. This disappointment was a surprise, as I figured at least it would be decent. The bottle itself is attractive, with the blue leather band, but that’s as far as it goes in quality control. The opening of bergamot, citrus, marine notes, and a little bit of wood is an immediate revulsion. All so synthetic that they make you scream that out. Imagine polo blue, admittedly a weak strength fragrance, and dilute it even more. That’s what you have here. There might be a hint of vanilla or pepper, but nothing substantial. It’s not a good combination, as it has a pencil shaving aroma to it. Also alcohol and a lack of vigor. After 15 minutes, no projection at all. With several sprays, it might be a disastrous skin scent for a couple hours. I actually hope Montblanc pulls this from their shelves and supplies. The reason is simple, as their legend and other colognes are solid masculine scents that really are invigorating. This lackluster is drugstore quality, yet they expect you to drop $95 for a bottle of this nonsense. That is unacceptable, and I shall never wear it again. If you want to stand out in a bad way, pour this cologne on with 15 sprays. Yes it does actually disappear that fast, as even Polo Blue is beast mode compared to this pathetic excuse for a cologne. Avoid it like the plague.
