In the past these have been my favourite winter warmer tops. I ordered two size 16 but both the tops I received were tight around the chest. Both had excessively long sleeves and when we compared the two tops one was longer in body and sleeve length and at least 4cm narrower in the torso than the other. Two very different sized garments both labelled 16. The neck lines in both tops were also a deeper scoop rather than a higher crew neck as shown in the image used online. Altogether, not a happy purchase. I would have returned both but because they are ‘base’ layers they aren’t returnable. Obviously poor manufacturing and indicative of Mountain Design’s reduced attention to quality control. Probably my last Mountain Design purchase.

I decided to purchase two of these thermal tops this year to replace my older versions of the same, which had developednumerous holes but were still wearable as baselayers. Although they should be as warm as the originals, they don't seem to be. The black top developed a hole along the shoulder seam on the third wear. Sizing is generous.

Warm thermal. Great colours available. Wine colour is very appealing. Overall fit great for large bust area. Purchased the larger size. Too long in arms and body although for taller ladies over 5'4 would fit perfect.

Good price and quality product but low neckline doesn’t provide the warmth that a higher neckline would. A bit disappointing in that regard. I guess it depends if you’re wearing it as an undergarment or you don’t mind it showing.
Lovely soft and warm fabric. Odour resistant,I wore this for 6 days straight with no odour.The scoop neck design is a major flaw, it allows the chest to feel the chill and ruins the overall thermal effect. I had to raise the neck line by putting some darts in before I could wear this outside.
Very light fabric so I find it perfect to pack for a warm layer when travelling. Long sleeves and body for good coverage.
True to size. Fine merino wool. Not scratchy. Warm as toast. Love this top. Will be buying more. Can wear as a top or underneath.
Nice to wear over woollen singlet or t shirt. Breathes well so doesnt get smell when you are active (it is wool). Keeps you warm and toasty under PJs if you are in a cold climate.Very comfy and as wool goes little to no itch.This is my second Mtn Designs long sleeve Pure Wool. 1st is light pink so very nice to have purple for a change literally (not a bluish or indigo purple -always hard to tell on web) which is a moderately dark tone but different from other companies' colours this season.The sleeves are good length (but shorter armed people will be able to easily turn up sleeves depends on what you like and whether you are washing up! ).There is no thumb hole (thank goodness) and is not necessary as the arms dont ride up. Very warm and a good fit. The only reason I don't give this 5 stars is that the label at the neck is scratchy. Mountain Designs really needs to do better with this.
I bought up a size as I am not a fan of skin tight thermals, and I think I would have been better to stick with my original size... there is plenty of room, sleeves that well and truely cover the full arm and don't ride up! I would love to see these in a light colour as not all my winter clothes are dark and this can't be layered under a light coloured top. Warmth is evident within moments of putting it on. Love it!
