The Saltoro is a great jacket for taking into the mountains. The combination of Gore-Tex materials keeps the weight down without sacrificing too much protection or breathability. A great all-round walking jacket. Mountain Equipment says A lightweight and protective waterproof shell with hybrid GORE-TEX construction for trekking and backpacking in the mountains. GORE-TEX 75D and GORE-TEX PACLITE fabric are combined to give a lightweight, comfortable shell that retains the durability required for regular use with a pack. Our Alpine fit is completely unrestrictive for all day use and the proven Mountain HC Hood is a reliable refuge in the worst weather. Our Verdict Mountain Equipment's Saltoro Gore-Tex Jacket uses a combination of 3 layer Gore-Tex 75Denier and 2.5 layer Gore-Tex Paclite making it an active yet durable jacket. The higher denier on the shoulders and outer arms mean this is tough enough to use in harsh mountain conditions with a weighty pack whilst the Paclite body keeps the breathabiltiy rating high enough to make the jacket usable for more intense activities. The two way zip and harness compatible pockets make this a great jacket for climbing and scrambling if the weather turns. The pit zips are one way and don't extend down the arm, I found them a little fiddly and whilst the increased comfort and maneuverability of a shorter opening is nice it also means the fast cooling for the vent is reduced.

Extremely well made, durable and high quality material. The hood is especially nice in the way that it can be adjusted for size (bear head, hat, or helmet). Purchase experience excellent as well.

Just arrived, not yet used outdoors but will be tested soon. Great jacket, well made.
Nice design and colour. Disappointed to find out there are only 2 large pockets which are not guaranteed to be waterproof
Good fit. True to size with high pockets so not in the way of waist strap of a back pack.
I have had the jacket for about 1 month. It is well built, lightweight and keeps me dry in the rain. The front zipper is "backward" compared to most American jacket zippers. (The slide is on the left). It takes some getting used to but it is a solid zipper and slide. It has an athletic fit, on the slim side. I am 5'10" 185 lbs and the large fits perfectly. I am very happy with the purchase and the brand.
Great jacket, does the job it's meant to do. Great fit for a Gore-Tex jacket not to baggy on the arms like most and nice slim fit but with room under the armpits...
I want to live this shell: the price, the overall design, the workmanship, the materials selection (75D Gore Tex for higher wear areas plus Gore Pac-lite for breath ability & weight savings). I wanted an xl to fit my normally large sizing to allow for layers underneath, and, to avoid Mt. Equipment tendency to be snug around the neck. But, what I did not fully understand nor like is the short āunderarm zip ventsā not longer zipper pit zips that seem to allow only limited ventilation. That limitation would drive me crazy I thought my so I reluctantly retuned it. Maybe my true rain shells will be the ones I wear to hike and ventilate to dump heat, maybe I donāt need more ventilation on mountaineering routes and then maybe again I will find a similar (or the same) ME ...Ā MoreI want to live this shell: the price, the overall design, the workmanship, the materials selection (75D Gore Tex for higher wear areas plus Gore Pac-lite for breath ability & weight savings). Ugh! Almost perfect.P.s. I have 35ā arms and the fit is 36ā but then again it is an xl which is fine for layering.
Excellent jacket, tried and tested in a Scottish storm.
