Only one capped hole for drainage that doesn't do the job. Trays do not fit together at all and continually fall into each other. Don't waste your money, get the Vogul, 3 tray mini-greenhouse dome sprouter.

Have used bottles for years but they take up so much space on the kitchen bench, so now I have 3 sets of Fothergill's, but stack them 6 clear trays high onto the green trays, in 2 stacks, to save even more space. The 12 growing trays are plenty to keep a good variety of sprouts growing in continuous production without overcrowding, and this, combined with the little effort required to water 3/4/or more times a day, I rarely need to rinse. To save drowning and wasting the tiny seeds like mustard, which fall into the moisture retaining grooves in the bottom of the tray, I line that tray with kitchen paper and problem averted.Top little system!

Support the other reviews about the Kitchen Seed Sprouter design & methodology shortcomings, adding that we have had mostly failures due to the inherent drainage flaw, whereby either smaller seeds clog the drainage hole and/or cap or bigger seeds collect around the drainage effectively creating a dam. Result is that seeds soak and soon deteriorate. Not a good look if trying to give a life-lesson to youngsters.

I have bought two of these units, now, because I thought the first one was defective and hadn't kept the receipt. It turns out either BOTH units were defective, or the entire concept is.I cannot, for the life if me, figure out how to stack these so they don't wobble over and sit all skewed. No one else in my household can do it either. It's the impossible problem.I've tried stacking then in different orders. No difference. They literally don't stack/balance neatly or properly.Just use a main jar and pair of pantyhose.I'll never buy one if their gadgets ever again!
So, this is a small unit, and probably good for a couple of people, every other daybif you stagger the layers. It's okay. My two quibbles are that it didn't come with a lid (unlike other models), and that whilst the trays fit in with one another, it's a bit wobbly. The indentations could have been better so you know the trays aren't going to tip over - particularly when full of water. It's cheap, they work, but you get what you pay for. Also remember to buy your sprout seeds online in bulk. The mark up on Mr Fish sproutbseed packets is nuts.
I don't usually give reviews without using the product for some time as it is only after time that problems can occur. But in this instance, right from the start, The Mr Fothergill's Kitchen Seed Sprouter has had intrinsic design problems in what has the potential to be a very good product. It did a good job of growing the sprouts, but not without a lot more effort than should be required. The multi-tiers do not fit together properly and need adjusting to keep level for water drainage every time the tiers are moved. The little valves that assist in controlling the humidity (draining the water) continually stick and need to be removed and re-positioned. For the price, these 2 issues are the reason I have significantly reduce my rating of the product.
firstly, this contraption doesn’t have a lid, so your seeds in the top tray dry out too fast to sprout.secondly, none of the levels slot in to place, they just balance on one another, so when you add water you need to monitor it and hold the tower together, else it will tip on way and all fall apart.a really poor product, would not recommend.
Tiny sprouter. No drainage holes. Trays do not fit together and continually fall into eachother. Absolute crap compared to our previous Vogul sprouter. Waste of money and no idea why this is the only one anyone in Australia seems to sell. Don't waste your money, get the vogul, 3 tray sprouter.
Bought this a month ago. It's a time consuming art stacking the trays perfectly level. It would have been such an easy thing to design properly but this is so annoying to stack as the trays love not sitting level. Buy something else.
After reading all the reviews I was hesitant to purchase it however decided I would give it a go and I am glad I did, they stack well and I have not seen any unevenness in them. The drain holes were a pain at first but once loosened and setup correctly they work just fine, no blockages etc…I also purchased multiple packs of sprouts to test it out and less then 24hrs 90% of them have sprouted to some degree.Give it a try and if you have any issues return it to Bunnings for a full refund, what have you got to lose?
