Easy to assemble and install. Great material heavy and firm. Came from AMD so to use something like this and fall in love is amazing to me. Pairing it with an i5 13600k great temps even when throwing everything at it.

Good luck with a new setup. Cause this boards ethernet will not work, and drivers will not install. Msi does not have a fix and many people have the same issue, since z690 boards. Do not get this card. Gotta switch this board asap.

plug and play for 13th gen, no need for bios updates or anything like that. tons of io/ports on the board, xmp working fine with 32gb of corsair vengeance 3200 ddr4's. my noctua nh-d14 from 2011 fits on the motherboard with the 83mm pitch adapter, clearances are good. bluetooth and wifi seem to be working just fine. definitely worth spending the extra for this board over the z690 pro and not having to deal with bios flashing.

Went from a asus z590a to a this msi z790. Omg.. the power and the speed of these newest technologies blows my mind. Pcie gen 3 is out. Get into the new and save yourself from the time consuming old beasts. Lol. But seriously. This is great and I paired it with a 13700k. Very beast if you ask me. Although not exactly the 13900k but it's a great pairing with gen 4 drives. Will be getting a gen5 ssd when available. Don't mind me. I'm gloating. All platforms are great. Everything that cam get the job done is great.
One of my favorite ways to judge a boards stability is whether it sleeps and wakes properly. This one does. Other aspects: I've got reasonably fast ram timings on stock voltage. 6200 Mhz with 32,39,39,102. It did not like the XMP3 out of the box, which would have been the same timing but 6400 Mhz but its because I'm running 2x32 sticks and the manual says to expect no better than 6000. My cpu runs very cool... an i7 13700K cooled with a Corsair H170I Elite Capellix 420 mm AIO cooler in a Lian Li Lancool III White RGB. It holds at 75C for a full load cinebench. I did use a Thermal Right LGA1700-BCF BLACK contact frame for better heatsink seating. Arctic MX-6 Thermal paste. it idles in the ~30C range. Gaming it stays in the 40's most of the time with only incursion into the 50C range. the highest I've seen gaming is 58C which is great. the boards soundcard the Realtek 4080 is an improvement over the 1220 it replaced. they both sound great but the 4080 is fuller and louder. I love the intel 1226v NIC. My switch supports and I get the full speed. 4-NVME's is a great option. I'm only using 2 but will add more. This replaced a Ryzen 9 5950X. It is faster for almost everything, but for my primary box this is a great machine. I recommend the MAG-Z790-TOMAHAWK-WIFI
I switched to Intel after buying a 7900x and DDR5. I spent literally 3 days doing everything I could and all I could see was blue screen after frame drop after blue screen. I was ready to stop buying PC parts forever. Then I bought a 13700k and this motherboard and it worked right out of the box. Sucks I had to roll back to DDR4 but the performance loss at 4k is small. I love my new PC! 4080fe, 13700k, DDR4 3600mhz. Defiantly would recommend this MB.
It's not much different from other Z790 motherboards out there: It does what I need it to do. BIOS is just as hard to navigate as that of other manufacturers, and it seems to be overvolting the CPU something crazy, but that can at least be fixed once I learn how to navigate the settings in BIOS. Had to RMA the first one directly with B&H and while that's always an inconvenience, B&H made it as easy as it can get.
I had high hopes for this motherboard when unboxing it. However, my excitement quickly dwindled when I noticed the nvme heatsink attachments weren’t soldered. They pulled completely out of the board when i tried to unscrew the heatsink to install my nvme drives.
The Z790 Tomahawk is a great mid-range motherboard with good features. I use mine with 64gb ram for graphic design and video editing and it does the job well. Especially like that it has so many usb ports for all my other devices. Highly recommended.
This review is for the MSI Review Rebate Program. A review is required to receive a rebate on the products listed above. I was deciding between this model and the ASUS TUF GAMING Z790-PLUS WIFI D4. I ultimately picked this MSI model because it has more USB ports: 10 on this MSI model vs 8 on Asus's. It also has a premium audio codec via Realtek ALC4080, and I like MSI's EZ Debug LEDs. The VRM heatsink looks substantial, even though it doesn't have a heat-pipe like the MSI Edge. I have pretty good airflow in my case, so I haven't experienced any thermal issue. I installed the Thermalright anti-bending buckle on this motherboard and paired the motherboard with an Intel 13700k and Corsair Vengeance 3600Hmz DDR4 RAM, specially the CMH32GX4M2D3600C18W model. Everything fired up correctly the first try. No stability or overheating issue. Overall, it's a pretty solid board, but if I was to do it all over again, I would spend a little more and get the MSI Edge Z790 for a better aesthetic for my all-white build.
