MSR Fuel Bottle

$34.07

(665 reviews)

MSR Fuel Bottle Fuel bottles 591 ml - MSR made its Fuel Bottle from a single piece of aluminum and added an air-tight seal so there's less leaking and cracking. The Fuel Bottle works with the threaded pumps on your MSR stove. Holes in the shaft of the bottle cap prevent spills and provide more controlled pouring capabilities. You can store and transport your MSR fuel pump in the Fuel Bottle once the bottle is depressurized.

Worked great. Traveled over 2100 miles so far through montana and the IDBDR. Temperatures reaching 106 and no leaks or spills. We did have to use it a couple times for the smaller bikes. Easy to fill up. The pump nozzle fits inside the opening, you just need to fill it slow and be sure to leave room for expansion. Glad I made the purchase.

Child safety caps are defective: they leak and do not properly open

DO NOT BUY THE FUEL BOTTLE WITH CHILD SAFEYT CAP-DEFECTIVE. I recently purchased two fuel bottles that had the child safety caps. The caps worked fine when the bottle was empty. But, once filled with fuel, it was nearly impossible to open. Then, after closing the caps (and making sure it was sealed tightly) the cap leaked fuel into my bag. I read reviews on amazon and apparently this is a common issue. Do not buy these with the child safety cap.

Dangerous lid failure - product isn't safe
8 January 2024

I bought several of these for a planned hiking trip in the Canadian arctic. Luckily, on an equipment testing round, I took one of the bottles filled with fuel. I couldn't get the child cap off. I tried for 30 minutes - no matter how much effort or pressure it wouldn't come off. When I got back to warm lodgings I read an online solution: place the cap under a hot water tap. Voila - at room temperature it works fine. This is simply a dangerous product that should be removed until manufacturing quality is adequate. If people are far into the wilderness, in very cold weather, they can't rely on MSR fuel bottles opening? How can they learn it fails in extreme cold? It's absurd but not that uncommon based on online comments.

Life Time Investment
9 November 2022

I still have a couple of bottles that are 40 years old ! They have past the test of time. Of course, having several Multi-fuel and several white gas stoves, it's expected to have a plethra of fuel bottles. And, at least half of them use a different thread, (Optimus, Primus, Soto, MSR, etc). Thankfully my SIG, Kovea and Trangia bottles use the same thread as MSR. I can switch out my pump without re-filling a different bottle. However, I tend to bring a larger bottle of the same make to avoid that. The one thing I don't like is the child proof cap. I usually buy the Expedition fuel cap to replace it. Even though prices continue to climb, being able to buy these MSR bottles on sale utilizing Altitude Sports Alti-dollars or expirable credits make it the best option out ... MoreI still have a couple of bottles that are 40 years old ! They remain the best bottles to handle the use and abuse most of us put them through. Excellent lifetime investment. Cheers

NOT for methyl hydrate
5 October 2024

I bought the largest version of this for storing methyl hydrate fuel for my trangia alcohol stove, at a glance not seeing it prominently displayed that this should only be used to store petroleum-based fuels. A few months later and the bottle is ruined, the inside etched and pitted with corrosion from the methyl hydrate. So a) expensive lesson learned and b) I really do wish this warning was displayed more clearly so people aren't wasting their money. This is certainly a quality product, and the rating given does not reflect that, but more that it was the wrong product for my use case and my disappointment in what I feel is inadequate caution offered to the customer about what not to store in it.

Not fully compatible with whisperlite
12 July 2022

Bought this to go with an MSR stove that I have been using since the nineties. Through hiking the JMT with only two resupplies, we definitely needed more than one fuel bottle. Unfortunately, the stove stopped working properly after about 7 days because the burner was not getting fuel delivered from the bottle. Switching to my old 22oz bottle fixed the problem, as did topping off this bottle. I think the problem arises because this bottle has a greater diameter than the 22 or 8 oz bottles, preventing the fuel pick up from drawing fuel when the level is low. If this had been the only bottle we had with us, it would have been a very serious problem. I consider this a serious design flaw and will be returning the item.

Straight forward

I have used this bottle, along with my Dragon Fly, for over 4 years now and have never had any issues. No leaks, no drips, no worries. It is durable, but like anything in the backpacking/outdoor world, it's not immune to wear.Couple of observations while reading some reviews, that should be obvious but apparently are not. The bottle is shipped empty (why that is a shocker is beyond me). Additionally, yes the cap is child proof, but not that difficult to open- even with my 53 year old arthritic hands. Like any bottle with a lid, if you over tighten, you will have a challenge opening it. You really do not need to wrench it closed. However, you can get an alternative cap, but I would be wary of that cap, for an obvious reason- if you fail to properly close it, your ... MoreI have used this bottle, along with my Dragon Fly, for over 4 years now and have never had any issues. With the original cap, there is no mistake you have closed it and therefore have no, or little, worries of a leak.

Worst customer service. Rude and incompetent!
24 August 2024

Worst customer service. Cascade designs will not even remove state sales tax for Seattle based B2B customers that provide a reseller permit and buying the item at full retail price. They proudly claim that they do not even remove state sales tax for their reseller dealers. Thanks Cascade design for increasing our state tax revenue by making consumers pay state sales tax twice for your products! Thanks Steve! We’ll likely be using a different bottle from a company that is more pleasant to work with.
