MSR IsoPro Canister Fuel 8oz

The REI salesperson said that the 8 oz canister has a 3-hour burn time. I doubt this is correct for my application, My experience was about 10 minutes/day (total) for 7 days = 70 minutes. Possibly 3 hours on a very low setting.I used this with an original Jetboil stove on an 8 day trip (7 full days of stove use). Summer trip (34-72 degrees ambient temperature range at breakfast/dinner) at 7,600-8,900 ft elevation. For 2 people, we boiled 0.4-0.5 L in the morning, and 0.5-0.8 L in the evenings. The 8 ounce canister lasted the fill 7 days ...but the pressure was getting low. Bought this particular size because it was the least expensive at the time.Most isobutane canister brands perform more or less the same but it being from MSR you know your getting the real deal.As for the size, I like mixing it up so at home I have a stash of canisters of all different dimensions and pick and choose what size I need depending on the adventure.But whatever the canister brand or size you choose, the most important thing is the stove you use. Don’t go cheap. Do your homework and go for quality. Get a stove with a pressure regulator and integrated windscreen (MSR pocket rocket deluxe, Soto WindMaster…). You will save on fuel and the cooking/boiling will be much more enjoyable.I also like using a Snowpeak mini flame. MSR Isopro 16 oz. 450G Canister it will last several days for boiling water and cooking food in higher altitude. Just keep in mind that altitude will actually make boiling time faster. As you ascend, atmospheric pressure decreases and shortens boiling times for all liquids. However, above 8000 feet you will need an stove with a pressure regulator like the MSR Pocket Rocket Deluxe camp stove to perform properly. MSR Isopro fuel canister will perform great in higher altitude and colder weather as well. No matter what size MSR Isopro you may carry in your back pack but, they all perform as good as each other. I personally carry MSR Isopro 16 oz. 450G Canister in my backpack as always.
