I have the twist chrome version. This was my second DE razor after starting out with a Wilkinson butterfly model. Before using it, I was afraid I might have chosen the wrong razor because of all the reviews that labeled this not only an aggressive razor, but one that would almost certainly cut up and irritate my face…particularly for someone new to DE razors. Well, I have to say that I fail to see what all the fuss is about. I did not nick myself once, no blood whatsoever. As a matter of fact, I haven’t ever cut myself with it and I’ve had it 2 years now. I also have a futur adjustable which is also a great razor, but it is bulkier and I have accidentally nicked myself using that one a couple of times. Yes, the R41 is an aggressive shave. But it is a smooth aggressive shave. I know that’s a bit of an oxymoron, but with the right technique, this is a smooth, pleasant shave that’s as close as I get with a straight razor. I can easily shave every two days, it’s that close. You must use good, sharp blades for best results. With a good blade, it will cut through very heavy stubble with ease. I get no irritation with this razor either. It has become my number one go-to daily razor. Don’t be scared off by the reviews that say this razor is way too aggressive. If you really **** at wet shaving and find mild razors like the Wilkinson a bit aggressive, then you should probably stay away. But if you’re confident and have decent technique, this will be one of the best DE’s you’ll ever buy. I love mine and I’m sure you’ll love it too if you try one.

Coming from the straight edge shave world I found this to be great. Astra P are my current fav in this. Then again I have only tried 2 different blades. The R41 just gets the job done, be it only 2 days growth or a week of growth. Perfect weight, easy handling. Found working around the hard spots to be quick and effective. After a couple of shaves, you may find yourself using it every day. The handle grip can be improved but it's enough to provide a nice grip. Found I could scythe on the first pass to create a wonderfully close first pass. Letting you call it finished or just do some touch up.The razor does require a more delicate touch than some closed comb razors but it's not the monster many make it out to be. Poor technique will be punished, but you will learn quickly what not to do.

I bought my first razor about seven years ago, and I absolutely loved it. Recently, my children or horsing around in the bathroom and knocked it off the shelf and broke the head off. No big deal right? So I just ordered another one. When I came in it came in as an open comb instead of a closed comb razor. The first two times I shaved it looked like a horror movie. I literally had to stop and go out and buy throw ways until the closed combs are back in stock. You guys make a great product and I will continue to buy it but I’m not sure what this open comb razor is for. I’m pretty sure they use it to shave sheep.Sincerely, a very happy customer!

A LOT of people talk about how this thing is a merciless beast that will eat you alive! However, I did not find that to be the case!Previously, I was using a mild beginners razor (Chieftain Jr). It was a great beginner's razor (MUCH better than my cartridges) but it always left me with razor burn and significant stubble -- even after 3 passes! It was bad enough that I had to shave every other day just to give my neck a break!Due to the above issues, I decided to take the plunge and go with the R41 in hopes that its rumored efficiency would at least let me shave in fewer passes (and hopefully get less razor burn as a result). Wow, it definitely didn't disappoint! Two passes (XTG, ATG) and I not only had the smoothest shave I've ever had but I had no cuts, nicks, ... MoreA LOT of people talk about how this thing is a merciless beast that will eat you alive! Wow, it definitely didn't disappoint! Two passes (XTG, ATG) and I not only had the smoothest shave I've ever had but I had no cuts, nicks, or razor burn! I've been using the R41 daily since then without any issues. With that said, I would say this is not a beginner's razor. I had to practice with my mild razor to get the technique down and I needed to develop my shaving prep (both of which I believe contributed to my pleasant first use). You will need to work to get the correct angle and let the weight of the razor do the work for you (or else you will get razor burn and/or nicks). Thankfully, it has good audible feedback so it's pretty easy to learn.Overall, I would highly recommend it. With my sensitive skin, this "aggressive" razor was a huge improvement over the mild one I had been using. Highly recommend it!
I like it, but I wish it would be made of stronger material. The head made of alloy is not durable in case of falling down on the floor. But who is going to play with a safety razor in that manner? On the other hand, the alloy will never rust in comparison with stainless steel due to aggressive chlorinated tap water. Even Feather safety blade will start rusting if to use one single blade for 2-3 weeks.Resume. I was surprised by finding a new company like TMM with so many affordable products! I plan to come back very soon to order blades. Thank you everybody from TMM!
This is a very nice razor to look at. It is very hefty and heavy. Also if you have large hands the extra thick, long handle feels great. It is an aggressive razor but if you have a thick corse beard like I do, it will mow it down. No complaints with the razor at all so far.I do have a complaint with bib and Tucker. Shipping was slow (might be USPS’s fault). The way my razor was packaged left a lot to be desired, the razor was in its Muhle package but was just thrown in a box. No padding or styrofoam to protect it. I paid a lot of money for this razor and would have liked it better protected. Once I opened the actual Muhle packaging, the razor was loose in its box, luckily it wasn’t damaged. A little more care for the product I purchased would have been nice. First and foremost, the Muhle R41gs stainless steel is beautiful. The first thing I did when I received this razor was just observe it for 15 minutes. It’s flawless. The craftsmanship and the finish on this razor is second to none, and I truly mean that. I’m still partial to another razor for sentimental reasons but this razor is truly one of the most (likely the most) beautiful I own and I can’t deny it. The size and weight of the stainless steel is awesome and truly a manly man sized razor. Now on to performance; I’ve shaved with this razor twice so far and it’s as much of a beast as everyone says. Paired with feather blades the Muhle R41gs stainless steel gives me the closest shave I’ve ever had. First experience is about one year into wet shaving. The R41 when I used it was very loose and first shave had lot of feedback and very much blade feel. One 1/4 turn tighter and it was like a new razor. Smooth ATG and feels safe, solid build quality and a bit like owning jewelry though it is very nice to hold in the hand. MUHLE is the brand of choice for me, this is my first open comb. The shave is one pass head shave and 2 or 3 pass for the face. After 5pm there is the same amount of hair there was at 8am only a bit more pronounced. I could easily go 2 days without shaving if needed. I like shaving 7 days a week. It is not too mild for me and the head has a very good amount of tightly controlled blade feel and smooth German shave. It is not too mild for me and the head has a very good amount of tightly controlled blade feel and smooth German shave. I imagine it is something to use during the week. It is every bit as safe as my Rapira. The difference is the R41 can comfortably shave under the neck with ATG. Similar result. I love the MUHLE products and looking forward to the balm and soap. I have several of the MUHLE brushes and they do the best job. This morning is CELLA Milano and one of the most beautiful shaves. It does take a year to get into wet shaving. Pleased with the open comb. The R41 is lovely. Rapira is the closer shave for result though I the R41 is more comfortable.
I’m a bit of an R41, having several different versions (including the legendary 2011 model). The R41GS is built to Muhle’s usual very high standard, and being stainless steel it should last a lifetime or two.It is an exceptionally efficient razor. Reminiscent of the 2011. It shaves very closely, which is great if you have sensitive skin as you can get away with less passes.Highly recommended.
Don't waste money on many so called beginner razors like I tried then jumped to this quickly because they just don't CUT IT. Anyone can start with this Muhle r41 long as you know the basic concept of don't press and use the weight of the razor and follow the angle suggested by muhle and don't use a crap dull blade. I didn't like the muhle blade at all and I'd fully recommend Gillette silver blues with this razor as they cut fast, smooth, and Sharpe as a feather blade. I tried these right along side feather swapping from one to the next shaving every two days and my verdict was the Gillette silver blue blade lasted as long, seemed more consistent between blades, was as Sharpe, less nicks, and cheaper on the wallet. My second favorite of the 15 or so brands I've tried ... MoreDon't waste money on many so called beginner razors like I tried then jumped to this quickly because they just don't CUT IT. My second favorite of the 15 or so brands I've tried was feather. I like this muhle r41 open comb much better than my Gillette adjustable I have. It rinses easier than you could ever imagine and shaves easily without nicks with Gillette silver blue blades. I can shave way faster because it don't clog and rinses faster than you can put it under the water just about and is aggressive. I get a much slower shave with way more nicks and cuts with my closed comb Gillette adjustable on full aggressive. This r41 shaves with no nicks with way less to almost no practice like myedwin jagger closed comb. If you haven't tried one try it. If you go two weeks between shaves this WILL STILL CUT IT! If your a cry baby that wants to never ever experience a single nick then stop shaving LOL. I use it with cremo shave cream which seems to work fine for me. I don't even do all those pre steps everyone does. I simply wet my face, apply cremo, shave with muhle r41/Gillette silver blue combo. Crap blades will pull and be uncomfortable so don't waste your time. Also crap blades will make you more likely to want to press on the razor which will result in nicks. Just bypass the reviews that make things sound all complicated if you have common sense. These are easy to use and even a beginner can start right away with ewwww ahh dangerous FEATHER blades lol. These guys just exaggerate. Just do it and save thousands over your life just on shaving. Plus get a better, more comfortable, faster(with the r41 not the others I've tried) shave.
