pull the top half forward until it stays out. use the nibs at the top to open the gap and insert the pencil and let go of the nib so it can firmly hold itself in place. the top half will slowly retract as you sharpen the pencil and stop when the pencil is fully sharpened. works well on colored pencils too! Doesn't fit fatter pencils. the point is super sharp

Easy to use and makes a perfect point. So glad I ordered it for Botanical Drawing using colored and watercolor pencils.
I had a similar sharpener as a child and this is the same as that one. It sharpens the pencil nicely and I love it.

This sharpener is very similar in design and function to the Uni KH-20 but is HALF the price. While it doesn't create as long a point as the Uni, for the price it's hard to beat! Simple, no frills, works as it should...like all things Muji!
