The G650 is easy and economical to use, produces very high quality text prints and delivers simply stunning colour photo prints. It also provides serviceable copies and scans, although the resolution is less impressive than the prints. Its limitations are that it is rather slow, a little noisy and has no automatic duplex facility. It can be very highly recommended provided that those limitations are not important to you and that your intended use does not include printing long documents or multiple copies. It suits my needs perfectly.

Colour prints are rendered exceedingly well, albeit a little slow. Scanner not high resolution so not as impressive but adequate for most subject matter except copying high definition photographs or very fine text. No problems have been encountered with wi-fi operation. The most disappointing thing about the PIXMA G650 is the almost illegible lcd display which is your first introduction to the use of your new printer, after installing the inks the level of each ink tank is also very difficult to see - certainly nothing like you see in Canons own advertising. However, after initial setup and software installed on your computer most operations (including ink levels) can be carried out from there and is the way I expect most people have managed operation of this ... MoreColour prints are rendered exceedingly well, albeit a little slow. Would have been nice if you could send a wake up signal from your computer to the printer ( I keep my printer downstairs) to start printing as the unit shuts down (not standby) after a preset period. As has been said by others, the output tray is rather flimsy and is best tucked away when not in use. Overall I am pleased with the product and John Lewis offering a 2 year guarantee period, I am anticipating to get many years of use from it and that it does not suffer from 'planned obsolescence', as has happened to my previous printers from another well known manufacturer.

Bought to replace an old Pixma MG6150 which had unfortunately given up after a good number of years of use. Similar in size to the old printer so no more obtrusive than previously used to. A dull matt black finish so a lot easier to keep clean and free of finger marks than the previous 'glossy' finish on the MG6150.Although early days, the ink in the tanks seem to be lasting well, but it must be said the printer is a little noisier than the old one, especially when undertaking it's 'cleaning cycle'. Long term hopefully the refillable tanks will be more economical than the old individual ink cartridges, but alas only time will tell.Straight forward to set up and connect the various items of tech to enable wireless printing direct from iPhones through to MacBook ... MoreBought to replace an old Pixma MG6150 which had unfortunately given up after a good number of years of use. The O.S system by Microsoft recently changed from windows 10 to 11. I, by email, checked with Canon about the adequacy of my old printer to make this change and was advised that there could be problems. The Drivers may not be suitable and they were not intending to update these as some component functional parts may not work in my old printer with 11. Hence my change to G650, a more recent Canon product release, as I had already changed to 11. The 'in the box' easy startup disc of the G650 updated the drivers to windows 10 for the printer which I did not know had happened. Before ordering this printer I had already ascertained that Canon had new drivers available on their website for download for the G650 for Windows 11. The easy startup disc did not change to 11 automatically when used. I thought this would read my computer O.S. system and download the appropriate Canon driver. Hence the printer did not work. It took a considerable time to get out of this problem. Windows 11 blocked every move I made at first and kept stating that the system was not suitable, even when I updated manually the drivers from the Canon site to 11. Windows 11 is still new to me, as with most people, I believe. The Windows 11 onscreen note stated that it did not accept the system as it was in breach of their security! I guess they were referring to the printer and the drivers as these were the only new things I had added. l then stumbled upon by accident, in my search for an answer, a part of the new Windows 11 program that checks programs, apps, drivers for windows verification. I have still not yet found its program location again, but hope that I will in time! I clicked on driver verification for printers, the system then went into checking verification. After a very short period, a statement came up 'verified' and asked if I wanted the download of the driver completed. I was not aware it had ever been stopped. The Canon program put a note on the screen that the driver had been downloaded and installed satisfactorilly. After answering Yes to the Windows query and nearly 24 hours after first starting to load up the printer, it at long last burst into life! Some of the so-called help apps provided by Canon I assume with their Windows 11 driver download do not work properly. I suspect they are just bloatware originally derived for WIndows 10 but not updated for 11. This concerns mainly the scanner operation. I can live with this however as I have overcome any problems for my personal use by using the direct scanner operation system that I have used previously. I am very disappointed with Canon this time. Windows were very slow coming forward with their final Windows 11 O.S. which I am sure has had a knock-on effect with manufacturers. This seems to be a valid excuse for Canon as long as for others the problems get sorted. For, me I will just get on with it and enjoy my photograph involved hobby.
Have had many Canon printers over the years, and currently have a Pixma pro-10s for prints up to A3+. In the past, I've used non-Canon inks for other printers but concerned about the use of these in terms of longevity of prints and ruining the print heads. Canon inks are uber expensive, and ink is wasted every time you clean or even replace individual tanks. When one cartridge is replaced, it charges all cartridges. I was looking for something for everyday printing which cut the cost of the makers' ink and this fits the bill perfectly. Very easy to set up, and the quality of photo print is astonishing. Six inks is the reason for this, and hard-pressed to tell the difference between the prints from this and my printer costing almost three times as much. Six inks is the reason for this, and hard-pressed to tell the difference between the prints from this and my printer costing almost three times as much. Hard to call it everyday printing when the quality is this good. Deducted one start on the ease of use, as if you want to do duplex printing, you have to do this manually, but a small price to pay for the quality of print and the flexibility and economy of the ink tanks. Highly recommended.
My old leading brand printer packed up after more than 15 years. The replacement had to be good for photo's and more economical than a printer using ink cartridges.I read dozens of reviews and the Canon PIXMA G650 seemed to be ideal. I have had it for only a few weeks and so far, so good. Print quality is good but I have not yet tried printing on card. Print speed is a little slow it that is not an issue for me.As usual, John Lewis offer the best purchase offer.
I print a lot of photographs so that's my main requirement of a printer. This one does that well, and cheaply as it has ink tanks rather than those cripplingly expensive cartridges. It prints reasonably quickly too. In other respects it's unsophisticated for a printer at this price point. Just a rear paper feed slot, and no automatic double-sided prints. The scanner is adequate but not world class. I can put up with all that to get those great photoprints, so I'm happy.
I was keen to switch to a tank filled printer as it is so much more economical to run. This printer is recommended by Which? Installing the two printheads was very briefly a bit fiddly, it took two of us to look at it! The ink bottles which are provided completely fill each tank. They each have a special jigsaw type top so that you can't put the wrong colour in the wrong place. I contacted Canon via live chat and they said that I can send the empty bottles back free for recycling. So far I have printed an A4 sheet, scanned two documents and printed two photographs. The photos came out really well, as did the other items. I printed off one of my favourite photos taken this summer as a test. As the printer works on Wi-Fi, there is no need to plug it into your Internet supply directly, although there is an available socket on the printer. It does seem a bit noisier than my previous Canon printer, which was the old model MG7750. As there is just one feed tray, I have had to register the type of paper on the printer itself when I have switched from A4 paper to 5x7 or 6x4 photographic paper. On looking at the Canon website, I was really interested to see that they currently offer a three year guarantee on the Pixma G650 model. This is available to apply for, even if you did not buy the printer directly from Canon. I have filled out the details to apply for this, which includes a copy of my John Lewis receipt and the serial number. I'm sure other purchasers or potential purchasers would be interested in this extended guarantee, beyond the excellent John Lewis two year guarantee! I would advise going to Canon live chat and they will send you the link.
I wanted a computer that was easy to use and share with the household and this isn't it. It's really annoying. It says it's constantly offline when it shouldn't be. It doesn't like the paper. It's really really slow and the colours and print aren't as crisp as all the reviews say. Very disappointed and honestly can't recommend. Seriously thinking of returning it for one that's more user friendly. It's also very flimsy. It's very cheaply made and not worth the money.
Bought the Canon as a reluctant replacement for a defunct professional quality photo printer.Simple to set up as long as you read the manual. Thus far it appears to be remarkably frugal with ink.As a general purpose printer it's quite good. Text and graphics are perfectly acceptable and very cheap to produce. The scanner is useful for documents but if you want to scan high quality photos, get a dedicated scanner, as the resolution is lacking. What is surprising though, are the quality of colour photographs. Very vibrant and showing the minutest detail. It's a shame really that it only does A4 maximum. The dye inks are not "archival" but prints should last many years, and are very cheap to produce.Only mild criticism is the output tray is a bit flimsy and would be ... MoreBought the Canon as a reluctant replacement for a defunct professional quality photo printer.Simple to set up as long as you read the manual. Thus far it appears to be remarkably frugal with ink.As a general purpose printer it's quite good.
