MXR M303 Clone Looper Pedal

I purchased this looper pedal to ‘Jam’ with myself...Yeah, I know, how sad is that right...! But no need to be sad because I have no one to ‘Jam’ with, because in reality I do...! The MXR Clone Looper is a straight forward looper with simple controls and a few extra functions added (half speed, double speed, or reverse) that can keep you exploring for hours. A separate Start/Stop button was a must for me. The single button loopers where you have to press a certain number of times per function can be a bit hectic while playing. This is an excellent looper for someone looking to jam along to their own work, create simple layers, or to add some texture to songs.Moog Audio is a pleasure to deal with. MXR gear is always good quality. For my first looper pedal it looked like a good choice. Maybe I should have given five stars, but in common with many digital pedals it's the way one has to operate them by using the few controls in multiple ways that winds me up. Short taps and long taps of the footswitches - which are fairly close together - and pushing down on the volume knob for additional functions mean you have to read and then re-read the instructions. Actually the manual has to be downloaded from their website. It's not about saving paper because there is a generic manual (guitar plugs in at the right side, lead to amp plugs in at the left) in a booklet containing more languages than I can identify. It came with a power supply (wall wart) that is so light it must be a switched mode one, but I couldn't detect the high pitched noise that some of those cause, so I'm not going to moan about that. This may read a bit negatively, but overall I'm impressed.

Look, I have sent a lot of money in the quest to find a really good looper that is intuitive and quality straight out of the box. I hate diving into a manual or having to watch various youtube videos to figure a pedal out. I know there are some people who love that but it isn't me. I have bought really expensive ones and ones that barely broke a hundred dollars. THIS one, is worth every penny. I took it out and turned on the pedal and I was looping. It is that simple. There are things I wish it did. I would love it more if it allowed midi control and you could capture a second loop in series rather than overdubbing but, lets be real, that's not what they are selling. It has an amazing response and there is no degradation to the quality of tone. It works like it's intended and i love it for that. And if I wanted a second loop I could literally buy another and I would be under the price points of most dual channel loopers. Just saying.... BUY this pedal. You will be really surprised and delighted at it's abilities and quality.

Easy to use, Great sound quality

Very simple operation, but good list of functions. MXR pedals, like this one, are built like tanks and will last.I have had looper pedals that had too many features and as a result turned the joy of just playing into a complicated mental exercise and we all know what that does to the creative process. Two button operation makes this pedal just right for recording multiple layers of loops. Easy to remove the last take if you are not happy and want to do it over. Thoughtful feature that gives you a count in so you know when to start playing.

Great looper with lots of versatility.

I first thought loopers were gimmick when I learned about them but after watching some videos, I thought they would be pretty useful. I purchased a decent single button unit but had a hard time controlling the playback and recording. The MXR looper has the ability to operate each independently. It has lots of other features as well.

I would absolutely recommend this pedal!

Very similar to the Ditto Plus, I personally have to have 2 stomp buttons on a loop pedal. Ditto,Electro Harmonics,and this MXR Clone looper would be my 3 picks for good loop pedals. Had this one for 2 days and really like it so far, I have been playing for 25 years, had tons of effects and consider this pedal very important on my pedal board, and loopers are a ton of fun along with being a great self gig tool. Great product so far!!

Play with yourself, it's fun

I haven't used many looper pedals, but I've wanted one for a long time. I have researched a few, but I was always hesitant to purchase for one reason or another- too expensive, too complicated, break easily, or malfunction for no reason. I am a fan of MXR pedals, so I was intrigued when I saw that MXR was coming out with a looper. So I pulled the trigger without even trying one out first. I'm super happy with the purchase so far. It's very easy to use and a lot of fun. I gave it four stars because some players might feel it doesn't have enough features, but it has plenty to keep me happy without destroying my daughter's college fund. Stellar design and sound..but is it dependable?

I grabbed one of these as soon as I was aware that MXR had brought a Looper to Market. The implementation of the half and double speed options + reverse using external tap tempo switch is a brilliant idea and works flawlessly. Expression pedal control for Loop volume is also a great feature and works perfectly. I was putting this thing fully through its paces in about 5 minutes without ever looking at a manual.Then I walked away for several hours with the looper powered on . On returning, the loop that was in memory had become a garbled, distorted digital mess. No controls would function on the pedal. A quick power off and it was back to normal. Use it for an hour, walk away for several...same thing. If it proves to remain dependable, I would give this 5 Stars easily. I guess I better remember to send in that warranty!Even with the bugs (early batch problems?) this is an excellent looper at a great price point.

Totally Cool Pedal

Have had this MXR Looper for about a week now. It is my 1st looper. I am having a ball. Makes me want to play more. The Clone Looper is easy to use. You can plug a mic up and record voice, drums or anything else you'd want to mic. I am a drummer and a strummer. I can record drums, then play guitar on top of that, do some vocal background. The reverse mode is cool & something that needs more exploring. I don't see much need of the speed functions, but it's cool that it's there. I am digging this looper Like I say, having a ball. Only draw back is that you can't store your loops.
