NBA2K19 is such a great game for basket ball and video games lovers alike. The attention to detail and the incredible 4K HDR rendering makes you feel like you're actually playing in the stadium. This game is enhanced for Xbox One X and has incredibly smooth game play. The animations are excellent and they even have a bunch of things going on during timeouts, to give you the entire holistic experience. The MyTeam and the MyCareer modes are excellent and let you create your own MyPlayer card, which let's you ball with players like LeBron and Kobe. The Neighborhood is amazing as well; you get to start your journey and play some street ball.Overall, this is definitely a big step up from NBA2K18. I never give any video game 5 stars. There is no truly perfect game out there...especially with sports games. Technically, I'd give this a 4.5 star rating. The half star deduction is the requirement for Playstation Plus to play part of the game. I also hate in-game purchases. If I'm going to spend a chunk of money on the game, it should open the entire game up to me. but the MyCareer mode is really cool. I like working my way up the ranks, dealing with what the pros deal with like social media screw-ups, sponsors, agents, dealing with the press, etc.. Nice touch.A few negatives though. I wasn't able to get the PS4 camera to map my own face (total failure on 2K's part). When you pick your player's speaking voice, there are only two options...and neither sound remotely like me (I'm the typical white dude!). So on-screen, when my character speaks, it is awkward to say the least. Loading times a also quite long, and the 2K TV feature is something I'd really like to turn off (weekly/monthly video segments of little value).I haven't tried franchise mode yet, and I have only played the MyLeague option a little. There's quite a bit to do. If only they could get away from the in-game purchase model and just make me earn my strips as in the old days, that would make me happy (or at least turn off the option to view them).

I was pretty disappointed. My expectations may have been too high, I guess. I had the first installment of the game "NBA2K" a million years ago for the Dreamcast (back when you could buy NFL games other than the same Madden that has been released annually since 2009). I haven't owned an NBA 2K game in probably 5-ish years. Somehow, the thought of 2K19 taking me back to that first 2K purchase gave me some warm and fuzzies. Then I played it.First the good: there are a lot of game modes. It takes a lot of time to explore them all. The appearance of the game is pretty nice. Everything "flows" nicely, not a lot of "glitchy" lookin stuff goin on. The graphics are pretty realistic. The bad: the "cut scenes" in the story modes are kind of ridiculous. I felt like I was watching a several hours long movie with a 30 second break every now and again to play a basketball video game. On top of that... they're not very entertaining. They sound like they were written by 3rd graders, and portrayed by community theater actors. I gave them a shot, but ended up just skipping almost all of them after the first couple of hours of playing. I figured the GM/Franchise mode was just more up my alley. So I tried it. Navigating the menus has a clumsy feel. Not to mention it takes a bit of time to figure out what the features do. With all the tutorials in these games... you would think a brief explanation of menu items wouldn't be too much to ask. Finally... gameplay... you know... the reason we supposedly buy these things.Where to begin? I couldn't find a camera angle that I liked. I mean... seriously... it was like watching a movie with a massive production budget, but they hired some drunk off the corner to operate the camera. The in-game controls are nothing less than frustrating. And AI catch-up logic is oddly cheesy. Like NES era cheesy. If the defense isn't smothering you with their hands in your pockets, fear not- your teammates will just start standing in your way. They will run away from picks, ignore your call for the ball while open, and then randomly pass to you when you're triple covered... and blame you for the turnover, or just literally stand between you and the basket when you drive, like a defender should, lol. It's actually kind of funny. But next time I want to laugh, I'll buy a stand-up comedy blu-ray instead of a 2K video game. They're less expensive.Somehow there are a lot of 5-star reviews... so maybe I'm just gettin old.

Great Game, but....
21 September 2018

I have always loved the NBA 2K series, and this new iteration is no exception. I really liked the MyPlayer story mode. The gameplay is great as always. For me there are 2 issues that really bother me with this game, and one of them is pretty minor that can be fixed with an update. 1) If you request for a player to set a screen for you, the defense automatically knows and will stick to you like glue. Its like they have eyes in the back of their head and just know that the screen is coming. 2) This is the worst one and it has always been an issue with the 2K series. This game is full of micro-transactions that really bring this game down a notch for me. 2k 18 was a huge disappointment. It was loaded with gameplay issues that made it so frustrating to play. Once upon a time NBA2K was a joy to play

Thankfully I got the game from Microsoft, but sincerely I prefer to uninstall it to save space rather than play it and I'll explain why. I miss the older games, I remember NBA2K since its beginning being a fun to play 5 star game, nowdays that fun gameplay it's gone, if you haven't play the old school 2K you have no idea what you are missing. The game is graphically ok, I think MLB the show and fifa soccer looks better, NBA2K used to be the best sport looking game, now it's more like a free to play quality game, I could digest more of its flaws, but why my screen is shaking when I have a free shot? that's annoying. I like NBA and having the all star team players by each team is cool, but why when I take the Bulls Michael Jordan team to play a match it's switched on the fly to other players ? if I want to play a match with Michael Jordan and unless I make the changes myself why the game itself is switching my players, it doesn't happen with other players compound, so I wan't to finish the match with Michael Jordan then I can't because the game arbitrary take MJ and his teammates back on middle of the match, come on. So that stuff is a big no no for me, I can't recommend play the game with those flaws that doesn't let you enjoy in the way that you want, for those who have enjoy the recent version of this game may have no complains, but if you remember the old school version you probably will dislike this one. I haven't dig in the online modes, that's where this game suppose to shine, but since the gameplay isn't fun to me, I won't bother in compete against people, it may be nice to play with someone at home and check on the roster. NBA 2K19 as a sport video game is not that bad but it's not that great, I would consider look around.

Very in depth NBA game where you be a GM or player and grow to be a legend. No offense to anyone but I was tired of the story mode being a black guy from the hood as there are other races who play in the nba and this game. At least this character is light skinned lol. In the future I'd like to see at least 2 options of players so that more people will feel good about playing that story line. Tons of options. Fantastic draft is always cool. Managing the salary cap could be credit for a high school of not college level finance course. The only thing I really don't care for in game play is the shot meter. Its trash. Bring back the old swoop. Also it's too hard and unrealistic to have my 7 footer lay the ball up inside when he would have dunked it. Not too much was improved. Still a game you need to spend more than the already overpriced $60 to buy essentially the same game every year. Have you ever looked upon instant replay? When your player gets "Blocked" you actually are getting fouled extremely hard. The A.I.'s hand/arm will go through your players body which in reality is just physically impossible. Clipping is still an issue, obviously. I am glad to see that shooting has improved (slightly). I wouldn't let your little brother play this, it's a joke. I as a 20 year old that games regularly find many of this games' antics flustering and all around quite annoying. Dont even get me starting on my gm, my career, or etc. Exact same gimmick every year just a tad bit better graphics to warrant a new title and ... MoreNot too much was improved. The Best Just Got better

NBA 2K19 is a substantial improvement from last year! This years' version builds upon its strong game-play, fascinating presentation, and includes better graphics and important game-play refinements. Defensive improvements make dribble-drives more difficult and the emphasis on ball control encourages you to learn each players' style of play. There's a learning curve but once you get used to it, you realize it feels more realistic than ever. I love that player ratings are fine-tuned and shooting feels true to the players actual shot. The only thing I wish was a quick-game mode that skips through half-time. This game is a great holiday gift for any basketball fan and I couldn't be more excited to play online with friends. Too Many Issues to Ignore
9 February 2019

I want to say this game is great, but it really suffers from the inside outside imbalance and sometimes the forced realism just isn’t practical. Regarding the first, a pure sharpshooter consistently hitting contested threes should not be happening at a significantly higher rate than lightly contested layups from an athletic finisher. The fact that this can happen with all the proper hall of fame badges is incomprehensible. I can make more contested layups more frequently in real life compared to this game. I’ve noticed PFs and centers just randomly dropping the ball while dribbling or even just standing still, and if the ball gets knocked out of your hands, forget about all functionality. Your character throws his hands in the air and becomes paralyzed for a few seconds. If you attempt to steal by pressing the x button, your character will either not respond or he will do everything in his power to wrap his arms around the other player in an attempt to foul them, or miss and become incapable of movement for a couple seconds after running several feet past any logical reasoning any defender would ever actually do. Want to rebound a missed shot? Just press the Y button and hope that your character decides to acknowledge the request. It happens sporadically, as it does with blocking, or may occur several seconds after the fact, followed by stumbling to the ground and a general incapacitation. This is a small list of the problems. If you take the bad aside, the graphics are decent, and the general feel of the game would be fantastic if not for the glaring holes. I’m hopeful that next year has more implementation of proper mechanics or this will probably be the last year I invest any time or money on the franchise.
