It is clear that this game was "remastered" solely for the purpose of a cheap cash grab in between development of the main Need for Speed titles. On top of this, some content was actually removed from the original version. It's worth a play if you didn't try the original, but if you have played the original this is an easy pass.

Another great racing game remastered for the Nintendo Switch. Solid fun gameplay and enhanced visuals are a treat. One of the better racers on Switch in my opinion and worth a look, especially for such a reasonable price. Go fast!

After 10 years, the game is very fun and still a solid arcade racing game. Need For Speed Hot Pursuit Remastered, is a nice re-release of Criterion's Need For Speed Hot Pursuit that originally came out in 2010 for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.The gameplay feels very smooth and responsive. All of the cars has a distinctive feel and weight to them. For example, cars like the Ford GT or the Dodge Viper, have better offroad speed due to their higher ride height vs a Porsche 911 GT3RS where it's ride height is much lowered and won't offer great offroad speed. The cars don't feel they are constantly driven on ice and the drift mechanic is very easy to pick up but will require some mastery to get better times and speed for certain later game challenges. The game campaign is split up into both Cops and Racers and each discipline has their own challenges and gameplay elements. Each offer, a nice reward and gameplay loop for both careers. And you can pick and choose what events you want to play first. If you own either the Xbox 1X, PS4 Pro, or even the newest consoles you can have the option to choose Visual or Performance mode. Selecting Visual will prioritize a more 4k display but it runs the game at 30fps. And selecting the Performance mode, will give the game a 1080p output but will run the game at complete 60fps. I selected the Performance mode option on my PS4 Pro and had no major issues of frame dropping or skipping due to the chaotic gameplay the game provides. What's included in this Remastered is additional DLC content, that were only available on the old consoles' versions of the game. It adds new cars to unlock and challenges to complete; which adds about 4 to 6 hours of extra content. Also, another great feature is the ability to cross-play with your friends across all modern gaming consoles. So, if you have the PS4 copy you can play with your friend that owns the Switch, PC, or even Xbox 1 copy. Also, the game's Autolog feature will track and record you and your friend's best times for each mission across all gaming platforms. The only issues I have with the game is the rubber-banding/catchup where the computer racers can instantly catch up to you, even after a major crash. Also, the hit detection of the cars and the police can be off at times. Lastly, online matches can show slowdowns and even lag if one persons does not have the best internet connection. However, despite these issues, the game is a nice fun and simple arcade racer that provides many hours of fun and even tense gameplay and at $40 provides a nice value to newcomers and veteran players that want a nice and familiar game.

A bit harder than I remember but, still just as fun :D. Remaster plays great with no glitches that I've run into so far. Although the driving mechanics do feel a bit old, clunky, and sometimes downright strange, I'm having a blast playing in the past. Especially for the price!

Fun game, minor performance hiccups
29 June 2021

Fun game, the remaster looks great but there are a couple of performance hitches here and there as seems to be common with most Switch ports. Don't expect it to run buttery smooth but you can get 30fps most of the time. Being able to take cat/mouse racer like Hot Pursuit on the go is worth the trade off though. I mainly just play the single player missions chasing people down and running from the cops. I haven't messed with the online, but the game is fun. Keep in mind this is an arcade style racer, not a simulator. It's going to be easier for most people to play but doesn't require quite as much skill to master the driving techniques.

Great remaster of a classic

Need for Speed is a great series in general, but Hot Pursuit has always been one of the series staple releases back since the early days. This PS3/360 era game was good, but at that time was stuck at 720p 30fps. This new "remaster" basically adds some higher resolution textures and a few tweaked lighting effects, but also gives you options for performance on the PS4 Pro. So on the base PS4 you get 1080p 30fps. On the PS4 Pro you can choose between a quality mode with a dynamic 4K 30fps frame rate or 1080p 60fps in a performance mode. The options are nice, and everyone will have their own preference. Personally I like the 4K mode being able to see far off into the distance to avoid cars or obstacles, but the fluid 60fps at 1080p is also a great way to play the ... MoreNeed for Speed is a great series in general, but Hot Pursuit has always been one of the series staple releases back since the early days. Personally I like the 4K mode being able to see far off into the distance to avoid cars or obstacles, but the fluid 60fps at 1080p is also a great way to play the game.Resolution aside, Hot Pursuit is all about the classic cops vs racers gameplay of earlier entries. You take missions as either acquiring new gear and vehicles as you go. As the police your objective is to stop racers using any method at your disposal, but usually by ramming them until their car is decommissioned. As the racer your goal is to win the race without getting stopped, but also by stopping your fellow racers. A few other missions pit you trying to get from A to B without taking damage. But for the most part this is a no-frills racer that is easily worth rebuying or just picking up if you didn't experience it the first time.My only gripe is that this game came out the week before current gen Xbox Series and PS5 consoles. So assuming you were able to grab one (like I was lucky enough to) there is no option to have enhancements beyond what the PS4 Pro offered. The PS5 should be able to output at 4K/60fps, but sadly as a budget $40 release I doubt EA will touch this. That said the game is still great and worth picking up.

This game brings back so many memories when I was a kid growing up. I played this game so much and on the switch is a lot of fun. Graphics are great. Its a bit confusing navigating the map in gameplay, but its not rocket science to figure it out either.

Need for Speed on Switch
5 January 2021

There hasn't been a Need for Speed title on a Nintendo console since Most Wanted in 2012 (which was a great port, better than the 360 and PS3). But prior to that Nintendo had had weaker hardware and primarily motion controllers for the Nintendo Wii entries. This PS3/360/PC title was great when I played it on PS3 (at 720p/30fps) but now runs at 1080p/30fps on Switch. The controls are great and it plays well especially on the Pro controller. I also picked it up on the Xbox One for the series X where it will play at upto 4K 30fps or 1080p/60fps. Unfortunately it released right before next gen consoles so it hasn't been patched (and likely won't be) to play on them where it could easily run at 4K/60fps or possibly 1080p/120fps. Nostalgia
5 February 2022

This game brought me joy, excitement, spontaneity that other games had not tapped into 20 years ago. I was scrambling to find the game my 8 year would love and star wars was his only choice. The game could not be racing starwars. The pressure was on when the one he wanted was not obtainable. So, i browsed for days and finally on that last day made a decision. I decided to bring him something that brought me joy years ago and this would reciprocate that same feeling. When I passed him the game hos eyes lit up... He was beyond excited. He is really enjoying the game... great game still and it is decades later.

Street racing for the switch

Other consoles have better racing experiences than the switch but this is a well put together game. You get to play as racer and cop and it’s fun being able to experience both sides of the racing world. This game is only about the race world, no exploring or anything so if you like those portions, this game is for you. Also this game looks and performs pretty well for a less powerful console.
