Returned a double sleeping pad my husband and I purchased a few years ago that wouldn’t stay inflated throughout the night. Got this as a replacement and OMG. Where has this been all of my life? Used it for the first time this past weekend for some fall camping and here’s what I can say!! Purchase this if you:1. Like staying warm when camping in cooler weather2. Like staying completely off the ground. Inflated it once - didn’t need to inflate it again the entire weekend.3. Nearing age 72, and having a compressed disc, I thought my camping might be over. Into my life enters the NEMO Quasar 3D Sleeping Pad. I have been able to camp and sleep well. I do not slip off the pad. I have only used the Quasar down to 40 degrees so I cannot speak to the insulation factor. The drawback of my aging hands and wrists is pushing the neck of the inflation bag into the pad's port, and pulling it out without pulling out the pad's port plug. Also, I have over inflated the pad which pushes out the pad's plug. Overtime, I have learned to manage and appreciate the port design. The pad packs down nicely to carry in my suitcase when traveling by car or plane in case I am not comfortable in a friend's or a hotel's bed. The pad has stayed inflated for a ... I found this mattress to be very comfortable and was initially very happy with it. On its 3rd trip it began to deflate in the night and would be completely flat in the morning. It got worse the next day, completely flat after 3 hours. I slept on the ground for the last 3 nights of trip. I looked all over for a leak and found none. I suspect there is something wrong with the valve. I'm in the process of returning the item for exchange, presumably the issue is covered under warranty. The search for a comfortable and durable pad continues.
I bought the regular wide. I will start by saying, this is a comfortable pad. I also own a Tensor. I sleep better on this Quasar 3D than the Tensor. I know there are people who disagree. I have tried both for multiple nights. The Tensor makes my back hurt every time.I like the curved sides. I like the raised head rest. I toss and turn. I sleep on my back, sides, and stomach. When I sleep on my sides and stomach, my arms are typically under my head/pillow. Having the slightly raised head rest on this pad just feels comfortable to me. I also like to read in bed before going to sleep. It's heavy, especially for the insulation.It seems like they should be able to make a pad with the body supporting properties of this Quasar 3D, but with the insulation/weight of the Tensor. Get on it Nemo!Until I can get a long version of this pad, this is my go-to pad. ...until they come out with my ideal pad described above. I will lug the extra weight for the comfort. I'm also a hot sleeper and I live and backpack in Arkansas, so I don't see many freezing nights. This is a great pad but there is room for improvement.

Important on a bike where packing space is at a premium. But the real pleasant surprise was how comfortable it was to sleep on. For many years I slept on self-inflating pads, gradually thicker, and the older I got I found that they became less comfortable. Being a side sleeper, I would toss and turn all night and wake up exhausted with sore shoulders, hips and knees. This pad, on the other hand, is soft but supportive and thick enough that it doesn’t allow any part of me to contact the ground at night. Used the pad about 7 nights total. Pad was quiet and super comfortable. Dealbreaker that initiated a return with REIs guarantee, which I’ve never had to use before, was I crept towards the foot box throughout the night. This caused me to readjust at least once through each night. Surmised that the elevated headrest and curved baffling encouraged this. Each night woke up with the pad about 1 ft closer toward the foot of the tent and myself about 2 feet closer to the foot of the tent. After a few nights of realizing what was going on dubbed it the nightcrawler. Figured it might be due to not sleeping on level ground. Slept on level carpeted floor and same thing happened. Returned for Exped of equivalent weight and insulation rating.

Insulation on the bottom is important.I did not want to deal with a solid pump, something else to lose or try to pack inside a tight stuff sack. I also do not like the idea of exhaling into a sleeping pad 50-100 times. This has an innovative pump sack which fills with air as you flip it through the air. Then you roll the sack closed just like a dry sack to force the air into the pad. It takes perhaps 5 fills, no placing your mouth on a valve and blowing endlessly. This is the easiest inflation I have ever experienced except for the self-inflating Thermarests which I have had for >30 years. It is easy to inflate the pad hard and then adjust the hardness easily with the micro-adjustment tip of the valve. The sack packs flat and rolls up with the pad.I bought the Quasar 3D Long Wide .. I am 5' 5" and 140 lb. I don't need the extra 5" of width (20" or 25") and 4" (72" or 76") of length. But when I lie down, I like to have a few inches between my body and the top/bottom of the pad. I don't like to roll over and have my head or feet slide on to the floor. My son and grandsons are near or > 6' (72") and I know that they will be borrowing this. I'd rather have the versatility of taller people also being able to use it.I was amazed by the small packed size and weight of this compared to my Thermarests. Its packed size is 9.0 x 5.5 in/23x14 cm (8.0 x 4.5 in/20x11 cm for the Regular insulated model). That's the size of half a sheet of paper. Its packed weight is 2 lb, 4 oz/1.02 kg (1lb, 12 oz / 790 kg for the Regular insulated model). The uninsulated models in both sizes are lighter.But the extra few ounces of weight for an insulated pad are probably the most valuable ounces you will have on a camping trip. The ground conducts a lot of heat away from you if you do not have insulation. You will pack more than this extra weight in clothes to keep warm while you sleep.I also like the rectangular shape rather than a tapered shape. It is too easy for knees and legs to slip off a tapered pad. People are used to rectangular beds their entire lives Getting used to a tapered mattress pad adds an extra layer of complexity that can cause you to wake up in the middle of the night.This pad has all the characteristics which are important to my sleep.
I took it out for my first camping trip and had a great sleep on it. I bought this as my other backcountry pad was not comfortable and I wasn’t willing to sacrifice sleep and achy joints. This one was incredibly comfortable. Yes it weighs more than my other pad but well worth it. I found it to be very quiet too.The only thing that annoyed me a bit was the attachment for the blow up bag and the plug on the bed. They are a bit tougher to use than other beds but it’s manageable.
