Now better than ever, our Stargaze reclining camp chair has been meticulously updated in the pursuit of camp comfort perfection — while maintaining all the features fans know and love. Ease of use has been improved with a strategic, more intuitive pole design that cuts down on setup steps and makes assembly a snap. Plus, the generously curved upright poles are engineered to more comfortably accommodate broad shoulders and create extra elbow room, while a larger padded headrest can extend well beyond the backrest and support users of all heights. The swinging seat and responsive auto-recline mechanism remain the Stargaze standouts, offering a hammock-like experience with a smoothly tilting backrest. Simply lean back to take in a perfect view of the night sky or catch a moment of rest while the water’s boiling! Designed for a low center of gravity, the chair offers unmatched stability on surfaces from sandy beaches to rocky terrain (or even spongy soccer fields). Flexible pouches on either side can accommodate sunscreen, a cell phone, or keys. When it’s time to pack up, Stargaze easily disassembles in just a few steps and neatly fits into the included carrying case until the next adventure.

A supremely comfortable (but heavy) camp chair.

With something to prop your feet up on it's supremely comfortable and you can rock yourself right to sleep if you want to!I will say that the "cup holders" built into it are nearly useless for drinks or cups, but do make a convenient place to slip your phone. When I take a drink with me I have to have a side table or something to put it on, but compared to the overall comfort of this chair that is a very minor annoyance.

This chair is my favorite piece of camping equipment. It is THE most comfortable chair ever. As someone who loves the rocking/swinging motion, I can literally sit in this thing all day or evening. It is always extremely popular in the campground and everyone wants to sit in it. The price is outrageous, but I have never regretted purchasing mine. The only downside is that you have to be careful around the campfire. I made the mistake of letting my friends sit in them one evening and they weren't careful and let sparks burn holes into the mesh. Currently seeing what it is going to cost to have Nemo fix them and I'm hoping its not much! I could fix it myself, but I want to see what the process is from the manufacturer first.

This is the first chair of this style not to cause lower back pain after long durations of use for me. The stargazer takes more set up than a traditional lawn chair, but NEMO makes it relatively easy with poles that are connected via string much like their tent poles. The system allows for small pack down size (for its style) and intuitive set up/ tear down. This chair is great for nearly everything with the exception of backpacking. On uneven surfaces it does surprisingly well. At 5 foot 5 inches tall I do not need to tip-toe in this chair. My only gripe is sometimes it squeaks then rocking in it and the cupholders are only suitable for small watertight bottles (or near empty bottles).

Pricey compared to some others, but for us this chair is going to be like living room furniture and used on a regular basis (getting ready for van life). Having used them on our shake-down cruises, and tried some others, we can tell you that you won't find a sturdier, more comfortable option out there. The unique design that allows you to sit upright comfortably, and yet simply push back to a reclined position, all while swinging yourself makes for a chair in which you can be comfortable for hours. It does work best with something on which you can put up your feet - but that's not generally hard to find in a campsite. Also important to us was how compact the chair stores, pretty key factor for living in a van. I rated this five stars, rounding up from the 4.7 that I'd give it if I could. Few things in life deserve 5 stars, and this is no different, but this is a GREAT chair. I originally purchased it for satellite-spotting, but I was recently at the Motul Petit LeMans race at Road Atlanta, where our viewing spot was from Spectator Hill, a popular area that has you sitting on the downslope of a grassy hill. I set up my Stargaze and it was like floating effortlessly above the precarious downslope. Others were using wood blocks to level the legs of their chairs while I leisurely enjoyed the races. I can't count how many people came up and said "Amazing!! Where'd you get that chair??" After taking it in and out a couple of times, the material in the case loosened up and it was easier. Plus, I just got used to how to do it. Now, no problem. At 8.3 lbs (weighed on my own digital scale) t's not the lightest chair in the world, but it's rock-solid, and should last for years. The case is just as solid and has a nice end loop and longitudinal strap that makes it easy to carry.

Hands-down, this is the most comfortable camp chair I've ever had. I like how it cradles me, rocks, and reclines. The frame is really simple, durable, and super fast to assemble or disassemble. The three poles on each side are shock corded, so I just pull them out, and collapse the poles into a bundle. The poles are big and fit well, so putting them in and out of their slots is easy. Putting the chair on the frame is a cinch. Taking it off and bundling everything in the bag took some practice, but now I can do the whole thing in a minute or two, with the bundle slipping easily into the provided semi-shaped bag. The bag itself has two types of carry handle (shoulder and hand) so it's easy to take - anywhere.I'm a short, heavy person, so I was a bit worried that I'd ... MoreHands-down, this is the most comfortable camp chair I've ever had. But there are padded bars I can hold when getting in and out. They work well for me - and for many older friends who also worried about getting in and out of low chairs. It took me a moment to figure out the recline. I was looking for straps to pull or snap. Instead, I just had to lean back to get the seat to recline! Super easy. I also removed the pillow (velcro attachment) for a better fit for me.Since it's so comfortable, and so easy to assemble, and so easy to carry - I've been using it a lot: in the yard, at the beach and even in my living room. The only thing it's missing (for me) is a footrest. I have to find a convenient bench or rock for my feet.

They are tethered to the frame with bungie cords and the shape of the legs fit only one way to assure that they are oriented correctly. The seat snaps into two posts, suspending the seat. This allows you to shift the seat's position from upright to reclining. You can also use it like a rocking chair. The chair is extremely sturdy and maintains an upright position until you purposely lean back to a more horizontal position. I found that the chair admirably held whatever position you wanted.A few suggestions of improvement:Increase the depth of the chair by a few inches. It would add a bit more comfort. Also, the cup holders, while adequate, could be a bit deeper and wider in diameter. The chair's durability and simplicity guarantee it will last many decades. It will be a great addition to your car-camping gear.

[Rewarded Review] a five-star chair

This is a five-star chair. This chair was perfect for car camping, and I've also used it to watch fireworks and a drive-in movie. I now use it daily in my yard or on my patio, and I love using it every single time. It is definitely the most comfortable camp/folding chair I have ever owned. The recline function is excellent and the design actually supports your back while you are reclined - something I appreciate so I don't end my day with a sore back. Plus, it's easy to recline: you just have to lean back. You don't have to adjust straps or lock anything, as it stays in place on its own. I love being able to swing a bit while I sit in it, and apparently my dog does too, as it's his new favorite place to lay! It is easy and fast to assemble (particularly since the poles are shock corded), and seems quite sturdy. Set up is a simple two steps: putting the shock corded poles in place and attaching the chair to the top of the poles. The small details matter. You can adjust the pillow to your preferred height, and the directionality of the velcro used to attach the pillow is correct so your hair and clothes do not get caught in it. The instructions for assembly are attached to the inside of the carrying case so you don't have to worry about losing them or keeping a loose piece of paper. The carrying case can be carried by a handle or with a longer strap to put around your shoulder, making it easy to bring anywhere. The carrying case is a good size and is a sleek shape that makes it easy to pack for any trip or to just keep in your car.The only potential drawback I can see are the cupholders. It has two cupholders attached to the seat that work nicely while you are sitting in it, but without the weight of a person sitting in the chair, the cupholders are positioned nearly horizontally. This means if you have an open container that is not heavy enough, your drink may spill on the chair hen you stand up. I haven't had a problem with this yet, but I keep it in mind when getting up and take my drink out of the cupholder if needed.

I recommend trying this chair in person before buying as it may not be for everyone. Personally, I love this chair because of the reclining feature. Star gazing is my favorite activity while camping, but after reading the reviews I knew I had to try on in person. When taking an approach to sit, it feels shaky because of the structure of the frame and seat, but once I’m on the chair it is very comfortable. Shifting between sitting upright and reclining is easy and intuitive. It’s very well made. The cup holders aren’t the best for drinks, but I can’t see how a normal drink cup holder would work with a chair designed like this. I can see an open container spilling if I am reclined. It weighs ~7.5 lbs and while it wouldn’t be a bother to carry it around a short distance, it’s still somewhat bulky and would be too much on more than a mile, unless it was one of the only things I’m carrying.I originally was just looking for a chair that met the following criteria:1. Sturdy2. Able to be compacted (somewhat)3. ComfortableI had eyed the yeti chairs, and that being the same price point ($300), I veered this way due to the idea that I could potentially have a tiny hammock in my car.My use case is not typical here, but I will say I am rather disappointed that I can’t orient the chair horizontally (or at least closer to it than it’s current angle). The default angle is vertical, with the backrest leaned slightly forward. This is so when you sit by grabbing the bars there is a “pocket” to sit in, I assume.Due to the way the chair works it requires a bit of force to go from its default orientation into “reclined”. Your body weight (I’m 5'11" and ~200lbs) alone isn’t enough force and you have to actively push. The reclining feature relies on your weight to maintain that position (my 9yr old can keep it reclined). As such if you lean forward (say to grab something off the ground) so does the chair. Due to the default posture this makes it a bit awkward if you say, lean forward to try to adjust the headrest)If the reclining feature had a lock this would solve that, and honestly I would probably rate it 5 stars with that alone.I wanted to be able to fully “lay” (with my feet off the ground) in this chair and can’t. This is partially due to the seat depth, and I imagine is intentional. My 9 year old is able to do so, however.Overall a really nice chair. It’s probably not worth $300, and if it was $100 I would instantly recommend it.If I could fully recline and have a way to lock the reclining in place this would be perfect. Also if it included a foot rest it would truly be the full package.
