I love trying new things - and what's not to love with coffee? So, madly, I bought all 4 new Origins flavours and I've just done my own private coffee tasting. Alta Rica wins hands down with a rich flavour both with and without milk - I tried it both ways. Next, Indonesian Sumatra - great flavour again, but really noticed a difference from the 100% Robusta bean vs the Arabica. The Uganda-Kenya was my third choice a mix of both beans this time - smooth and really is nutty caramel, a gentle coffee - smooth black and really a 24/7 cup with milk. Finally, last buy by no means least Cap Colombia - really smooth - the best 24/7 black option. I had expected this to come tops but was surprised to find them all unique and all really drinkable. Alta Rica is my repeat purchase ... MoreI love trying new things - and what's not to love with coffee? So, madly, I bought all 4 new Origins flavours and I've just done my own private coffee tasting. Alta Rica has lost it's wonderful bold velvety taste! Seriously how can changing the label over the last few months from Gold Origins to Gold Blend effect the taste so badly. Nescafe say they haven't changed the recipe and if that is true then they need to accept that there's a faulty batch out there. I have been buying this Nescafe coffee for around 20 years now, I emigrated from the UK to New Zealand 15 years ago. I tried many different brands of coffee over here including Nescafe but nothing came close to the beautiful taste of the Origins Alta Rica. So even though it cost me twice as much for the coffee I used a shop in the UK to purchase it from and ship it to NZ. I can't explain how disappointed I was and felt I had wasted a lot of money! Nescafe state they haven't changed the recipe so need to accept there must be a faulty batch, my batch no. is 03280814C2. I am really hoping Nescafe will investigate this as I have 9 jars of coffee that I can't drink and at the end of the day if the old recipe is still being made I really won't to continue drinking it. If I don't know I have a faulty batch then I can't risk ordering any more. PLEASE Nescafe look seriously look into this as I am not the only one bringing this to your attention.

I have been drinking Alta Rica coffee since it was launched and absolutely loved it. However the coffee has changed for the worst in the last year or so. I now need two spoonfulls in order that my coffee doesn't taste like dishwater. I have read many reviews echoing my opinions and yet Nescafe deny that the formula has changed. I am looking for an alternative to Alta Rica and when I find it I will never buy Alta Rica or indeed Nescafe again.

Have been drinking Alta Rica for a long time now. Recently when opened a new jar (with the new label for CO2 reduction), immediately noticed the lack of distinctive aroma when broke the seal on top. Then discovered the taste also was very bland and nothing like the previous jar of Alta Rica. Initially thought it might have been a one off jar or something, purchased another and the very same very bland taste from that one also. I realise others have been told all that has changed is the label, but I refuse to agree with that. IMO something else has changed as the aroma and the taste is now completely different and very bland. Will not be purchasing anymore Alta Rica until I hear somewhere that it has reverted back to the taste it was.
I have been drinking Alta Rica for years, and several friends have changed to this over the years as a result. My wife bought three jars the other day as they were on offer in our local Tesco, but we were disappointed to note a significant change in smell (I loved smelling the newly opened jar), taste (it had changed from full flavour to a fairly tasteless variety) and colour (from a nice mid to deep brown to a pale beige). We have even tried double teaspoons per cup to get the old flavour back but to no avail. I have noted all of the previous comments on this thread, and how the only thing you admit to having changed being the packaging. Unless the new packaging has sucked all the goodness out of the coffee, I regret that this cannot be possible. You claim to use ... Unless the new packaging has sucked all the goodness out of the coffee, I regret that this cannot be possible. You claim to use the finest Arabica beans in Latin America, but it certainly seems that the beans used in this latest batch are of a vastly inferior quality, and that, as a minimum you should offer to refund the price of the coffee or replace with a better batch. Disappointed in the extreme!
I am quite appalled to find that the taste (and strength) of my favourite coffee 'Alta Rica' has changed. I have seen online disclaimers that only the packaging has changed, not the recipe... well NOT to my taste buds, or my wife's! We find there is not the same intense smell, we are also having to put MORE in the cup to make it up to the strength it was before - and frankly, the taste is not a patch on what it was before. The coffee granules look smaller - they don't look as dark as previously. What is going on? Please write back to me and explain the changes - my only alternative, if you don't return to the original recipe, is to stop buying this now inferior coffee, and seek another. It's not what it was - it's awful!
In common with other recent reviewers, I've been drinking Alta Rica for many, many years. In my opinion it was the best instant coffee on the market, especially for people who like a strong, intense flavour to their instant coffee. Unfortunately since the new style of jar has been introduced something has most definitely changed and not in a good way. Nescafe insist the recipe is still the same, so I can only assume it's a decline in the quality of the beans they're using? Previously, it was always a great pleasure to break the seal on a new jar and smell the intense coffee aroma. Now the smell is quite nasty, almost as if the beans have been burnt? The flavour has also diminished and there is now a very unpleasant smell and aftertaste to the coffee. Like a few ... Like a few other reviewers I also made the mistake of bulk buying half a dozen of the new style jars, when they were on offer at Tesco. Looks like they'll be going in the bin! Unless Nescafe decide to restore the quality of this previously great instant coffee, then sad to say that after all these years of happily drinking Alta Rica, I'm going to have to look for a new brand. I really cannot emphasise enough how disappointed I am about the decline of this once superb product!
I am very disappointed that my favourite instant coffee just doesn't taste of itself anymore. I used to drink Nescafe Gold for years but at some point stopped enjoying it. It doesn't seem to taste the same anymore. Thankfully I have discovered Alta Rica and I thought that it was the tastiest instant coffee and couldn't bear to drink any others. After years of enjoying Alta Rica now it seems that this coffee has also been altered somehow and it has completely lost its appeal. I have come across this page after a discussion over the flavour with my husband this morning. It looks like we are not alone in thinking that this is not the same coffee anymore and Nestle will sadly be losing many devoted customers.
I agree with the other comments here. The Gold Blend Alta Rica tastes and smells nothing like the original. I've bought it for years, used to love it and used the jars for storage. This will be last one I buy.It is not clear whether this blend Is 100% Arabica or a mix of Arabica and Robusta. It says so one the front, but simply 100% soluble coffee. If you click on the QR code, it says it is a mixture. It tells us about the ecological care (which is fine) but not why it tastes so differently. It's so obvious that I would like Nescafe to be upfront about it. Shortage ? Global change?
It seems that I am not the only one. We have been drinking Alta Rica since it was launched in the UK upgraded from Blend37. For quite some time my wife and I have been wondering what has happened to the taste as it is awful. I googled the issue and hey presto I stumbled on this website with reviews that reflect our sentiments exactly. However much your customer service tries to tell us nothing has changed, it definitely has!Unfortunately you have lost yet another loyal customer. If Nestle decides to revert back to its original recipe and perhaps quality beans, then please publicise in the media and I would be gladly come back. You may decide not to publish this review as it is not favourable but there are other media outlets.
