Cheaply made machine; Weak warranty policy.

Nowadays, most other companies will warranty their products for 2 years from the date of manufacture, or for a limited term following the initial registration with no POP required. Nestle could certainly do better if they chose to.Make a better machine that doesn’t fail within the first year.Craft a warranty policy that doesn’t require me to go digging through bank records, and calling up retailers to get receipt details.I spent a lot of money on coffee pods within the last year, but I won’t be buying another Nespresso machine…if they want to keep getting my coffee money, they can replace my cheaply made machine with another.

It leaked and smoked (which was scary), but I could get coffee. After the troubleshooting, it won't even attempt to brew, lol. The woman on the phone literally was like, "Well, it's broken. Want to buy a new one?" YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDDDDING MEAnyway — I would love to give this 5-stars for convenience, flavor, etc., but as a consumer who cares about other consumer's experiences, I just need to warn you — this will be a never-ending money pit for you. They gave me two options: (1) to give them MORE of my money ($65) to deal with the hassle of shipping the piece of junk to a repairman; or (2) to give the MORE of my money by buying a new machine at 35% off (keep in mind it is currently 30% off Vertuo machines online). Nespresso knows that this particular machine is defective, yet continues to sell them and then gives the customer the runaround when the machine inevitably breaks. I've now wasted my hard-earned money on a Nespresso machine that doesn't work, a descaling kit that didn't work, pods that I'll never get to use, and my time trying to resolve the issue with their customer service rep. Note that I also have a Keurig machine several years older than the Nespresso Vertuo Next. The Keurig still works great, while the low qualify, defective Nespresso will have to be thrown out. Nespresso should have offered me a free replacement or another machine that actually works rather than give me the runaround.

Good brew; not so good operation
10 April 2024

I bought the VertuoNext 6 months ago as an upgrade to my Keurig and have used it daily since then. While I prefer the Nespresso brews, smooth operation of the Vertuo Next is inconsistent. What I have learned in 6 months:First, I have also experienced the unexplained leaking from the bottom of the machine Most of the time, the VertuoNext works fine. However, it randomly deposits large amounts of water on the counter. I’ve had this happen around once/month. Because I don’t see it at first, it’s difficult to troubleshoot the cause in all cases. One time the used pod dispenser filled with brewed coffee to the point of overflowing onto the counter. This happened when I used a damaged pod but bent the rim back in place as Nespresso recommended. One time the used pod dispenser filled with brewed coffee to the point of overflowing onto the counter. This happened when I used a damaged pod but bent the rim back in place as Nespresso recommended. Don’t use damaged pods at all.Second, I selected the VertuoNext because of the combination of variety in brew sizes and the water reservoir size. I’m finding that we don’t use the larger brew sizes as originally anticipated and stick to 8 oz coffee or smaller. Even with the coffee size, we are refilling the water reservoir frequently - generally after 3 brew cycles because we don’t want the reservoir to run dry mid-brew. Letting the reservoir to run dry mid-brew upsets the programming and has resulted in inaccurate amounts of water in the next brew cycle and potentially another cause of water on the counter.Lastly, closing the lid is a two handed operation to get adequate pressure to pierce the pod and lock the lid properly. Not a show stopper but you have to pay attention to make sure it is done correctly or face the blinking red error light. The VertuoNext brews decent coffee and espressos. However, in hindsight, I wish I had heeded the other reviews and gone with the machine with the automatic lid, larger reservoir and fewer reported issues.

I got this Nespresso for Christmas 2022 after telling my husband how cool a friend of mine's machine was. It didn't even brew a whole sleeve of pods before it turned into a paperweight. A very lengthy chat with customer service determined that it was bad, and they offered to send me a new machine and a replacement sleeve of pods to compensate for all the wasted pods while they tried to talk me through fixes that didn't work. OK- this seemed like great customer service! THEN the second machine turned into a brick even faster than the first! Another lengthy phone call requiring me to use my camera and show them that it literally wouldn't do anything, but they eventually conceded and sent me a new machine AGAIN. My THIRD machine finished my original order of pods without issue... Feeling more confident, I ordered another half a dozen sleeves of pods... only for this one to fail before I could finish a sleeve =( I'm tired of having to call customer service before brewing my coffee! This is 3 machines failed over the course of ONE year! Customer service has lectured me on multiple times about proper cleaning and maintenance- I haven't even had a machine function long enough to warrant descaling! When it worked, this machine made the best coffee ever... I'm just so tired of fighting for coffee. For something this expensive, I would have expected better quality!

Leaked with very poor customer service

I bought my verturo next a year and a half ago. Because of the poor reviews from others, I took meticulous care of it: I cleaned it once a week, I made sure to only use filtered water, I ensured that it was opened after every brew and clear the capsule so it would not get clogged. It worked perfectly until today, when it wouldn’t brew coffee and I found it had leaked so badly it destroyed four books that were next to it.I called customer support to inquire if it was still within warranty. He said that they would need to troubleshoot the issue before telling me if it was in warranty, despite the fact that I told him the timeframe in which I purchased it. The person who troubleshooted my issues was condescending and short with me. He ran me through all of the cleaning routine twice. Every time anything brewed the machine continued to leak out the bottom. It was then that I realized the water was leaking from where the cord connected to the machine, water was pouring out over the electrical. He continued to try to tell me it was coming from the capsule container until I showed him the dry capsule container and the water pouring out the bottom. Finally, after an hour, he said my machine was out of warranty and he could offer me 35% off the same machine. I would have been more appreciative of the offer if he had told me that upfront and was a bit kinder with me through our interaction. I asked if I could think about it because, at the moment, it was hard to justify the cost even with 35% off for a machine that would turn into an electrocution risk in less than 2 years. He then told me that it wasn’t time but instead it was likely somehow my fault that the machine was broken and leaking, even though he just saw that I kept the machine as clean as possible. He suggested that if I purchased the descaling product more often then this wouldn’t have happened. It would have been nice to have heard about the warrant options before I spent an hour getting gaslit on the phone when it was very clear that there was no way to fix the machine.2 stars because while it worked it was great and I very much appreciate the recycling program.

Leaking out of the box, coffee not hot
24 April 2024

This is my third Vertuo machine, previously I had a VertuoPlus (Delonghi) and the classic chrome Vertuo. The first two machines were great for years, I gave the first away to upgrade to the VertuoPlus which lasted for over five years before it started leaking. I replaced the Plus with the Vertuo Next and it is worse in pretty much every way. First off, the thing sounds like a jet engine compared to the Plus. Also it is difficult to open/close compared to the automatic open/close on the Plus models. The coffee is nowhere near as hot on the Next model. I also could not get the machine to connect to wifi, I don't know if it was an issue with the machine or the app, but I gave up on it after 30 minutes. After only a few days of use, I noticed water pooling in the pod cup and coffee leaking out of the centrifuge after ejecting the pod. I called Nespresso support and after a brief video troubleshooting session they offered to replace. A lot of what I experienced I read about during my research before purchasing, went ahead with it anyway, and first hand confirmed what others are writing. Avoid this machine and get a Vertuo Plus instead.

Nice for making your own coffee!

I bought my machine about a year-and-a-half ago and have used it almost daily since then and I have nothing but good to say about the system concept and the machine, the various coffees, the Aeroccino 3, . . . all of it. It works well and has continued to do so without fail. I wouldn't hesitate to do it again should that be necessary. Nespresso's service on my coffee orders has also been good. My suspicion tells me that at least some of the negative reviews of Nespresso's products and service have resulted from a failure to read thoroughly and completely the instructions and to follow them meticulously. Is it possible that some of the failures in others' reviews are legitimate? Of course it is. But don't throw the baby out with the bath water. I have tried other instant coffee systems but none, including the most popular and widely sold at retail, come close to the Nespresso system. I still sometimes make real espresso with my La Pavoni hand-pump machine and its milk frothing system, but the difference between that and the Nespresso isn't all that great and considering the convenience. I suppose I sometimes still do it the hard way because I invested so much time in learning how to extract the crema, et cetera, but the difference between the La Pavoni and Nespresso isn't worth talking about.

Pick a Different Machine

I bought this machine approximately 2 months ago from Target. I question if the machine was purchased then returned and placed back on the shelves. The machine was clean but not packaged properly with tape holding parts into place like previous machines I’ve gotten (both from Nespresso directly and Bed Bath and Beyond.) However, I figured if a Nespresso product was returned in store it would be sent to the company for quality control. That may be my fault for assuming this.I spoke with a representative and she would not give me a clear answer on whether or not that happens. She informed me with the Target return policy it can be returned within 30 days of purchase. The reason I contacted customer support was because this machine was not brewing coffee as ... MoreI bought this machine approximately 2 months ago from Target. She informed me with the Target return policy it can be returned within 30 days of purchase. The reason I contacted customer support was because this machine was not brewing coffee as creamy/foamy as my other machine, Vertuo Plus. I purchased this Vertuo Next due to the design and location of the water tank to better fit my needs for a machine.Nespresso machines are typically known for brewing creamy/foamy coffee. The customer support representative advised me to only use nespresso pods in my machine. Not the Starbucks pods specifically designed for the machine that can be purchased at the local supermarket. I have found regardless of the coffee pod brand, the coffee is not as creamy/foamy.

The worst Nespresso machine I've ever owned
5 December 2023

A bit of background for context: We are big fans of Nespresso. We started off with the original model eons ago, and when we moved to Europe, bought a replacement to fit the voltage. When we returned to the U.S., I wanted the same model we used to have, but it was no longer being manufactured. Instead, I went with this model on a trip to Target. I wish I hadn't. When this machine works, it's great. I hate that I have to order my pods online because no one bar Starbucks makes Vertuo pods and those taste like crap, but whatever. That just harkens back to the days of yore when I would pop into the Nespresso boutique to pick up my pods. The problem is that most of the time, the machine simply doesn't work. We have the troubleshooting manual sitting next to it rather than filed away with every other small appliance book because we need to review which error code we're dealing with now. So far we're up to five. Sometimes, the error code makes no sense and unplugging and replugging the machine back in seems to do the trick. Let me tell you, there is nothing worse than it being a dark winter morning and all you want is your darn coffee to kickstart your sluggish brain, but you have to spend 20 minutes fixing your coffee maker beforehand. In the last 5 days, this has happened 3 times. It's so bad that I'm seriously considering buying a whole new coffee system and just being done with it. What a waste of $229.
