Big quality in a small package.

Using the NETGEAR 5-Port Gigabit Ethernet Unmanaged Switch (GS305) to connect to more devices on the home network because the router did not have enough ports and was tiresome to always be swapping LAN cables between devices. Have seen no drop in speed or extra lag time. All devices communicate with each other as expected. The switch is compact so takes up a very small footprint. No fan means no noise and have not noticed the switch getting overheated. The power cord from the power adaptor is nice and long so it can reach a long distance or be folded for shorter distances. The price was very good, so this is high quality for a low price.

I’ve used these little netgear 5 and 8 port switches since they were hubs and 100 baseT was the new hotness. Never had one fail. Buying more because everything needs net these days and it’s a house full of nerds. I recently got another one of each size. When setting up I noticed how easily someone might mix up the power supplies. The switches themselves are clearly labeled as to their needs, but the wall warts are the same size and shape, and you might need a flashlight and magnifying glass to read their output voltage.

Does exactly what I needed it to do

Unmanaged switches are ideal for small networks with limited devices communicating with one another. Home or small office networks are the ideal situation for these and that is where I am using it. This switch is incredibly easy to install and use. Plug it into power, and connect ethernet cables to it and to the devices you want to connect and you're done. If you need to connect more devices later, you can use one port to connect to another switch and you're in business for that configuration too.

Fast, Well Built and Inexpensive Switch
30 April 2020

We just upgraded our business to fiber internet service with a Gb up and down. Several of our downstream switches were old and limited to 100 Mbs up and down which meant we were only getting 10% of what our internet service could provide. Just plug in the Netgear GS305 switch and plug in your Ethernet cables. This Gb switch was inexpensive, well made (steel housing) and worked immediately delivering speeds of 700 to just under 1000 Mbps. I'm ordering two more after I complete this review.

Great, little Ethernet switch...
8 May 2020

I recommend this product, especially if you are like me... replacing an old 100 Base-TX switch (a repurposed D-LINK WiFi router from 2006). I would prefer if the power adapter had a longer cord (2-3 m) and an L-shaped plug. If it did, I would also prefer to attach it to the bottom of the switch, instead of the back; with the option to run the cord in any direction (including to the side with the ports). Overall... I am quite happy with the NETGEAR 5-Port Ethernet Unmanaged Switch (GS305). It works perfectly... so far.

It works, not much to say
6 July 2021

It's a tough life to be an ethernet switch. If you do your job, nobody notices you, but if have an occasional hiccup, you're trash. I have bought this to replace a switch that failed. At some point they do. No reason for it. Just poof... bad connection, flaky connectivity it all could happen. This one worked out of the box. No problems so far. Can't quite say what will happen and how long it will last. But if you need a quick fix to your network, with a small , inexpensive gigabit switch, you should really grab this.

Perfect Solution
9 August 2022

I've used Netgear products for years, in fact, these newswitches replaced older 10/100 versions of a similar Netgear switch. When I went to higher speed internet recently the obvious choice for me was Netgear. When the switches arrived, I just plugged them in and I was up and running at the higher speed. No setup was necessary. If past experience with Netgear quality and longevity is any indication, I will likely get years of use out of these switches, unless of course my current internet speed again gets to slow forwhat I do.

Seems to do the job
13 January 2021

Only reason for a 4 star is because it appears that when I have both ethernet cords connected to the unit (connecting two computers) it may not actually be switching the internet signal as distinct from allowing both to share the same signal. The lights at the ports for both cables remain lighted, which is the source of my confusion. And I can't find as yet a mechanical switch to cut one or the other off. That aside, this is easy to set up, looks nice and solid, and I certainly am able to use the ethernet with both computers rather than WiFi.

Shipping stunk, lost at same location for 10 days.

My rating is combined between Newegg not Netgear although first unit didn't work properly Netgear had great customer support. Original order was lost in one location for over 10 days. Second one ordered by Newegg who a few days later said the second order was cancelled since they found the original shippment! Funny I thought they were shipping the replacement when I spoke to them, not a few days later. The switch arrived and it wasn't functioning properly. I contacted Netgear who provided great with customer support. Netgear reviewed my installation, trouble short it correctly and said it was an issue with the product. I'm sure the switch will be fine after it is exchanged. Netgear recommend getting replacement from Newegg since it was brand new. Works great with ATEM Mini Pro ethernet connections
28 October 2020

It is not easy, at first try, to set up the two ethernet connections for the ATEM mini pro switcher. After some research, I followed up a suggestion to use an ethernet switch to avoid IP address confusion to hook up the ATEM and the laptop computer on the same internet channel. The Netgewar Switch is a perfect match to my Netgear Modem/Router. You will really like the Netgear iPhone app that makes it easy to set up the Switch with the router. Netgear has thought of everything, and they know amateurs like me will need easy to follow instruction to work with internet hardware.
