Purchased this router to replace a Nighthawk R9000 that had served me well for many years. Upgraded to gain access to WiFi 6 and also needed a router that could easily handle the demands of a household with an ever increasing number of connected devices (e.g., gaming, streaming, surfing, smartphone, etc.), especially when kids are home from college. This device has proved to be a winner and delivers performance as advertised. Set-up was easy, signal strength is better in remote parts of my home and the performance has been excellent thus far.I considered stepping up to the Orbi but liked the simplicity of configuring a single device and also liked the more economical price. As mentioned earlier, swapping out an older Nighthawk for this one is super simple.

Now that I have kids, I decided to upgrade so there’s no issues with the vast amount of demand in my house compared to a decade ago. I have nothing but praise for Netgear. I knew there was no other brand I could consider. When I found out that Nighthawks were still going strong and had only gotten better, I could do only one thing but upgrade to the best router I’ve ever owned. Multiple people will be streaming games and watching tv simultaneously and there’s zero connectivity issues with dozens of devices connected and running at once. I have about 25 devices on the network, and they seem to all be doing just fine. I did notice at least one device on the wi-fi 6 band, but it doesn’t seem any different than the other bands of wi-fi. During setup, I changed the default SSID and password, and then for some reason it made me restart the entire startup process. Once the setup was completed again, I reset the SSID and password. The router then did a firmware update and made me complete the setup again, for a third time. Once again I changed my SSID and password and thankfully, it has been steady since then. I already had the app installed from my previous router and altogether, the setup took about an hour from unboxing to solid connection to all devices. During the initial setup I tested the router with my cellphone to make sure the wifi was working. I put my cellphone in airplane mode and notice the 6e signal disappeared. Not that it was a problem, just the unexpected operation of the 6e network being tied to my cell antenna.The setup is the typical netgear web interface. Exceptional hardware which is shackled by overly simplistic software. You cannot change the name of the admin account from 'admin' for example. This is Basic Networking 101 and the foundation for every further security step in even basic networks. You cannot blacklist IPs from attempting to probe your network. The router cannot lockout IPs for XX minutes after Y number of failed admin logon attempts. These are all rudimentary security options.I expect a router with this price tag to carry at least the bare minimum of simple security tools to protect customers. If the security suite for this router can be implemented this would be the perfect router. Great wireless range, ample wired ports and fantastic transfer speeds.
I now have Netgear Xfinity cable data and voice modem, separate Netgear router and a Netgear wifi extender. They replaced Xfinity rental modem/router. No amount of telephone contact could get the Xfinity equipment to work. Several hours of SMS chat with Xfinity got the Netgear purchased modem working. The router and extender setup with the Nighthawk app was seamless. Speed tests show a dramatic improvement between Xfinity rental equipment and Netgear. I've been paying for 600 mbs for years and never got more than 250 mbs download. With Netgear the measure of download is 700 mbs on the Nighthawk app speed test and 260 on OpenSignal app? I use Opensignal app for speed tests. With Xfinity modem/rounter many apps and devices stopped working. Everything now works. I have Apple iPhones, iPad, Apple TV, Windows 7 and 10 computers, Android cell phone, Samsung Android A7 tablet and a Sonicdust HDHomerun ATSC 3.0 OTA TV tuner on my home network. All are now working. I could not say this for the Xfinity modem/router.
