The fact that I am still wearing these phones as I type this review (after spending ten hours with them in the studio today) says a lot for their comfort and sound quality. Obviously it will take a while to adjust from my Audio Technicas of 10 years standing but early signs are these are a long term keep for mixing and mastering.

Astonishingly Neutral Sound

Wanted an upgrade from Mackie MC-450 and these seemed like the best choice. The sound is quite a jump from the MC-450s; it is the sonic equivalent of shining a bright light on the mix - never too harsh, but showing imperfections, however tiny, in previously dark areas. Bass is beautiful, you get the feeling of what it will sound like on a big rig; the whole thing sounds utterly composed and controlled, entire spectrum is wonderfully neutral and well defined, right down to sub bass. No hint of fatigue, either - comfortable to wear as well as to listen to. On the negative side, the earcups make noise when wearing glasses and moving head around; I got used to it but I can see it being bothersome when working on very quiet or highly dynamic material. Awesome sound. Clear, deep bass, smooth highs.

An incredible sounding set of headphones. I purchased these for production, mixing and mastering duties. I spent many hours researching which headphones would suit my needs in the studio when working on music, these definitely meet all my needs. Clear and well defined audio, incredible (deep) representation of the bass (but not overhyped or overwhelming), clarity in the mids, and smooth highs (not ear-piercing highs like some other models). The build quality is also incredible. These feel extremely well built. My only gripe is that after a few hours of wearing, I feel slight pressure against my ears. However, I don't think the slight discomfort on these NDH 30s is a bad thing, as it reminds me to take regular breaks to allow my ears a breather and prevent ear fatigue.Overall, I would definitely recommend these headphones to anyone looking for a professional solution. If your room is untreated, or the acoustics aren't great, or if you simply need a quiet listening solution (if you live in an apartment for example and don't want to disturb neighbours), these headphones are perfect.I actually prefer listening on my NDH30s now than I do using my studio speakers. However, my room is not acoustically treated, so thats why. Mixing on these gives me a better idea of the balance of my mix, simply because I'm removing the colouration of the room acoustics out of my decision making when mixing.

These are suitable for mixing/mastering as well as casual listening. Wearing them for hours does not cause fatigue. Overall sound is on the bright side rather than bass heavy. Overall I'm very satisfied.

Review of Neumann NDH-30 Open Back Studio Headphones
4 January 2023

These are excellent mixing and monitoring cans that smoothly reproduce the upper mid without losing any of dynamic sparkle and give a wonderful balance on both bass and lower mid. Although sounding a little clinical in terms of general music listening to CDs (Jazz, World & Soundscapes), they fulfil their intended analytical purpose as studio monitors at a five star level in terms of depth and breadth of sound field and showing very low distortion. As most commentators have stated, not providing a hard case at this price appears as a bit stingy by Neumann.

The right Pro headphones for the right job
27 September 2022

I usually don't write reviews because I'm a perfectionist and almost nothing impresses me, I just use what I bought for professional purposes and it's enough for me that it does the job.But here is a slightly different case. After the appearanceNeumann NDH 30 made it easier to live and work. They sound exactly what I recorded on the microphones and everything that I mixed almost exactly the same sounds on all other devices. The stereo is very well separated. The sound scene is shown very correctly. NDH 30 are very comfortable, I don't feel them on my head even after several hours of use. The comfort is just incredible. The sound is accurate, detailed, transparent, dense, and correct throughout the entire frequency range. The cord is excellent, but the set is only 3 m and 1.2 m must be bought for $80. I thought it was not modest. I also think the price is too high. But it so happened that for audio, video and photo equipment they always take more than it should actually cost. People don't protest, so they can continue like this.
