Yes, the signal chain is locked, yes the signal chain is limited. After years of wanting more delay and more reverb and realizing 90% of that doesn't translate live, this unit gives what you need. It's not intended as an all-in-one, but in a pinch it can certainly do it. This unit takes signal from other devices excellent, so run a drive or two in front, run another delay or reverb after, use it in the loop of a Helix or other modeler to add captures and a few more effects. The possibilities are many and the captures are amazing!

Bought this solely for using as 'home studio' gear for recording - so reviewing from this standpoint.I wanted a simple to use - no bells or whistles 'box' which i could simply just record great guitar tones - and yes this does that with ease.I didn't need its big brother - i just wanted a simple signal chain with a few extras (delay, chorus, reverb, noise gate...etc) just one fixed line so i can record a great 'tone' into my DAW.
