Neutrogena Hydro Boost City Shield Hydrating Water Gel, SPF 25, 1.7 oz

Thanks to Home Tester Club I received this products, complimentary, in exchange for my honest review. The following opinions are 100% authentic and my own. Neutrogena Hydro Boost City Shield Spf 25 is easily one of my favorite Neutrogena products I have ever tried. It is exremely light and airy and applies effortlessly. It reminds me more of a gel type hydrator which are my favorite type anyways so I definitely enjoyed it! I have already recommended this product to numerous coworkers and I just received it less than a week ago so needless to say, I was definitely not disappointed.

Did not work for me

I wanted to like this so much but it just did not work for me. I have very sensitive, combination dry/oily skin, so finding a product has always been very difficult for me. If you have similar issues, you know what I'm talking about and this review is aimed at you! If you have normal skin, I have no doubt this product would likely be AMAZING for you. It is a very lightweight gel, which was exactly what I was looking for. It goes on so smoothly and your skin does feel really soft and silky right after application. My problems occurred after a few hours on most days that I tried this product. I did have a few days where the stars aligned and my skin stayed smooth and non-greasy all day, but the majority of the time, I had the opposite happen to me. Again, I think it's because of my combination skin and how sensitive it is. I work from home these days, so in the immediate hours after I applied this product, I was inside in my air conditioned home working on a computer. The level of greasiness I experienced was what I would have expected had I been commuting to/from an office and/or doing some light exercise. The greasiness I experienced is likely what caused my next problem with this product - breakouts. The label states that this product is non-comedogenic and for people with normal skin, it likely is. I had a breakout a few days after beginning to use this product so I stopped using until the breakout cleared up. About a week or so later (after the breakout was cleared up), I decided to start using this product again. A few days later, my skin started to break out again. That is a deal-breaker for me. It does not have an overwhelming scent, which is probably the best thing about this moisturizer, from my perspective! The scent was pleasant and non-irritating or offending. I am very sensitive to fragrances (translation: scented products give me terrible headaches) and this did not bother me at all. I gave 3 stars because I can see where it would work for people with normal skin and I didn't think it was fair to the product to give 1 star when experience tells me that it's my unique skin that makes these easily accessible products not work for me.

Face Swelled & Burned had to go to the ER

I put the cream on before going to bed and woke up to my face swollen, burning and itching. I took some Benadryl and 4 hours later no change. I had to go the ER and get steroids. I was told to wash with Dial antibacterial soap and use pure aloe cream. A day later I was still slightly swollen, red and very itchy. I went to the dermatologist who prescribed Hydrocortisone ointment. Today is 4 days later and my face has gone down, but still itches. I cannot wear makeup for another week... which means I am going to work totally bare faced and extremely shiny due to the cream.

HORRIBLE Allergic Reaction

I used the regular Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel for years so when I saw a version existed with sunscreen I was stoked to try it. WORST allergic reaction I have ever had! I tried it one day and my face stung a little but I thought maybe it was getting used to a new product. I woke up the next morning with a face so puffy I could barely open my eyes, and it was red and rashy and dry and burned. I’ve always had sensitive skin but never have I ever had an allergic reaction that aggressive. It took like two weeks for my skin to feel ~somewhat~ normal. It flaked forever. Just a huge no. I was so disappointed with this product as I love the original and have never had any reactions with it. Really was hoping the sunscreen one would work. Hydro Boost Gel helped me during Chemo

I’m 41 years old and live in Bakersfield Ca. I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma on June 2019. I had to go through 6 months of chemo. On my 4th month, I notice my skin on my face was shedding, it was so dry due to the chemo. I spoke to my oncologist and he said that it was a side effect of the chemo. Nothing to do but wait until I was done with chemo. I spoked with other patients at that clinic and they were pretty much going through the same thing as me. It was almost perfect until it gave me a rash

I am soooooo sad that this didn’t work for me! I was looking for an spf that was lightweight and non greasy and would sink into the skin. I use the hydrogel so I thought this would be perfect. It worked so well. It did sink into the skin although it took a couple of minutes and it wasn’t the least bit greasy all day. It did have the sunscreen smell to it, but I could overlook that because it felt so great on my skin. But about halfway through the day I looked in the mirror and I had red spots all over my face and neck. I don’t have sensitive skin and I’ve never been allergic to any sort of skincare or sunscreen products. When I washed my face and put moisturizer on after the rash showed up, my face burned. Refreshing and Revitalizes my skin.

Non-greasy application. Easily absorbs into my skin. See immediately refreshed and moisturized skin which lasts all day - with or without make-up. I generally apply a light brush of face powder to complete the look. This Neutrogena product delivers as expected and I'll probably continue using it for the long-term. Glad that my local CVS has it in stock.

Too much fragrance!

I was really excited to try this because they say the best thing you can do for your skin is to wear a moisturizer with sunscreen in it. Not this one, unfortunately. It broke me out with red bumps on my jaw line and cheekbones. I've heard so many great things about the water gel, so I guess I will try that one instead. Just hate that I spent this much money on the sunscreen and can't use it. Take the fragrance out!!

Total Game Changer

Whenever I have seen reviews that state "OMG this product changed my life", I've always taken them with a grain of salt. You see, I had never had an experience with a product where such a dramatic difference was immediately noticeable. It was extremely frustrating to try such hyped products and be let down because they didn't do anything amazing to my skin. It applies like a dream and sinks right into your skin. My husband even commented on it, unprompted, as my face tends to turn into an oil slick after a few hours but didn't when I used this. I have never NOT looked like an oily mess by the end of the day but with this product, I don't have that problem. While I do get a bit shiny in my T-zone, it looks normal and like just "skin". As I've continued to use it, I am continually blown away each day and just fall more in love. When I say this changed my skin, I absolutely mean that. I can't even explain the relief I feel knowing that I no longer have to blot every hour and that the paranoia of looking like an oil slick is gone. The fact it also has SPF and protects my skin in addition to moisturizing it? Bye, done, game is over, will be buying a thousand more.

This cream is good for my skin.Before buying I read a lot of reviews. There were good reviews and bad ones, but still I decided to buy, and did not regret it. I bought this cream in winter, but I will definitely use it in summer, as it is very light and does not grease the skin. I have combination skin, enlarged pores and other moisturizers with SPF that I have used before were terrible. The consistency of the cream is more liquid than other creams with SPF which are sticky and heavy. The cream is quickly absorbed, tightens my pores and reduces oiliness in problem areas. I noticed that the cream visibly tightens the skin, lifts the cheekbones and the lower third of the face, and also makes the facial wrinkles on the forehead less noticeable. Don't use time at night.Not long ago I was on vacation in a warm country where the temperature was about 86F (29C). And the cream worked. It protected me from the sun in the morning, but in the afternoon when there was an aggressive sun I was in the shade, in general my skin did not suffer.
