(215 reviews)

The New Balance Fresh Foam X 860 v14 is an anti-pronation all-round running shoe that is perfect for your daily run. This shoe can handle any pace you run, whether it's a moderate 5K run or a long run. Go for a completely new running experience with this all-round running shoe! Midsole The shoe features the super-soft Fresh Foam X midsole and delivers soft, ultra-cushioning and unparalleled comfort. The midsole has a double density and consists of two Fresh Foam X-foam materials. This gives you a lot of cushioning in the heel and forefoot, but you also experience the necessary support in the arch of the foot. In the middle of the shoe there is a sturdy Fresh Foam X block that prevents the foot from pronating. This running shoe gives you the support you need when you run a little more over the inside of your foot thanks to the special embroidery on the medial side. The reinforcements on the shoe ensure that you roll more over the middle of your foot. Upper The Engineered Mesh upper of the shoe provides support in strategic places around the midfoot and has high breathability in the forefoot. The shoe is a bit tighter around the midfoot for a secure and supportive feeling. To keep the tongue centered and prevent dirt from entering the shoe, a pleated tongue is connected to both sides of the upper. Finally, the adjustable lacing ensures a perfect fit. Outsole The shoe has a rubber outsole and provides good grip and traction while running. Run at your own pace on the New Balance Fresh Foam X 860 v14 and push your limits!

1080 for long runs. This for everything else.

Absolutely love this shoe! The way the stability plane is implemented is very comfortable and smooth. The stability is there but it's not obtrusive. Maybe it's the EVA film or dual density foam but it feels like there's an extra pep that makes it more enjoyable than the 880v14. If I had to choose one for long runs (~10 miles) I would still choose the 1080v13 but I would absolutely choose the 860v14 for everything else including shorter and faster runs.Compared to other stability shoes, I prefer this much more than the Kayano 30, which is very cumbersome and clunky in the heel compared to the 860v14.For people with wide feet, the extra-wide 860v14 is wider than the Vongo v6 extra-wide. A great shoe for over-pronation

If you’re looking at the 860, it’s probably because you have flat feet, and you’re looking for a stability + comfort shoe (like the 880) but with a focus on pronation. I was a long time GT2000/kayano user, and when I heard the hype around these, I had to try them out. Here’s the scoop. I have super flat feet with a semi-gross accessory navicular bone. They’re super comfortable, flexible, great for running and cross training, and they look pretty ok/good. They’re a big step up from the ASICS. I don’t love how expensive they are but I think that’s just the price of admission these days. Highly recommend

After a couple of long easy runs, my feet could still feel the miles in my soles and my knees. While the shoes are light and breathable, they aren't as supportive for my feet as I would have liked. The other thing I noticed about these shoes is that they're fine as a trainer, but they won't help you go fast. Good shoe with some minor issues
9 September 2024

My wife and I purchased the Fresh Foam X 860v14. This is the third consecutive generation of the 860 model that we have owned.I generally like the shoe. I find it comfortable and it fits well. I wear a mens size 14 and there is proper room in the toe box and no constriction at the ball of my foot. I wear the shoe five days a week for my exercise regimen. I have worn it consistently for about three weeks now and it seems to be holding up very well, consistent with other New Balance shoes that I have worn. I generally replace shoes every 8 to 12 months.I replaced the standard insole with an a custom arch support orthotic insole and it fit perfectly. I generally replace shoes every 8 to 12 months.I replaced the standard insole with an a custom arch support orthotic insole and it fit perfectly. I also replaced the laces with stretch laces (helpful for a high instep).- Thick Fresh Foam sole. This adds comfort while walking on hard surfaces but there is a trade-off. The added cushioning also makes the shoe feel less stable. I don't know exactly how to describe the sensation but I feel that I make more corrections when walking in order to stay on a straight line.- Heel Tab. The heel tab tends to rub the back of the foot. The prior version of this shoe (v13) had a flared heel tab that curved away from the back of the foot. It's a minor annoyance that does not seem to serve any positive purpose.- Instep. I have a slightly high instep and the v14 model does not seem to have quite as much room in the upper. The stretch laces help.Overall, I am pleased with the 860v14. They make changes to the model each year and each change brings positives and negatives. I don't feel that these are quite as comfortable and stable as the v13 in some respects.Quality is excellent. Comfort is between 3 and 4.

New Balance ruined this shoe - Do not buy
8 October 2024

This is the worst update New Balance could have done to this shoe. This shoe was my go to stability shoe and relieved so much pain I had had for years. This new version is just terrible. I don't know if they changed it to save money or what, but it is no longer a stability shoe, it's more of a neutral shoe. I have so much pain on my back and neck on one side of my body after wearing this for 40 minutes. The design team or whoever made this decision needs to be fired. Terrible update. Bring back the support of the older models. Do not buy this shoe.

Not Enough Support
14 September 2024

As a runner who loved the 860 v13s, I was really disappointed in this update.Likes: I liked that New Balance decreased the heel to toe offset/drop by two millimeters. This helps to engage the calf more. I also like that they kept the toe box wide to allow for natural toe splay.Dislikes: This shoe doesn't provide the kind of stability and support that the v13s provided. This is huge. I buy stability shoes because I overpronate. It took time to notice this, but after two months of usage, there's just not enough support/correction and I started to notice issues with my hip and knee.

One of the very few shoes for men in extra narrow.
26 July 2024

This is the only company that makes a few styles of shoes/running shoes only, for men with narrow feet that I could find. Many companies only have C widths as their narrowest. That is very, very bad. Many companies go from D to much wider, not caring for the folks that need a narrow size. If a company has a few C widths, they run out fast...So why not carry more then? No one knows. New Balance does not seem to carry walking or hiking shoes/boots and no work boots in narrow much less extra narrow that I need. I guess that work boots or hicking boots in narrow or extra narrow are not important for us minority narrow footed guys...Thanks that they have about four styles of running shoes that come in 14 extra narrow for me to wear...but none in walking, hiking, or ... MoreThis is the only company that makes a few styles of shoes/running shoes only, for men with narrow feet that I could find. Say goodbye to stability
21 June 2024

The 860 has been my go to NB sneaker for many years. I've always appreciated the stability underfoot of this particular model. Those days are gone. The update to the shoe itself looks great. I love the fresh white look of the shoe. Asthetically it's a very nice shoe. Quality seems to be fine in terms of construction. Unfortunately that's where good things end. There's no reflective material as one small detail, which is perplexing given that it's a running shoe. Worst aspect is there is no underfoot stability. The foam is squishy and squishy to the point where the outer heel and front foot feel unstable. I could not envision myself training or running in v14, walking is a little bit of a challenge with these. The density of the foam is poor, it is incredibly soft. ... MoreThe 860 has been my go to NB sneaker for many years. I've always appreciated the stability underfoot of this particular model. For those seeking stability, and a soft yet firm slab of foam under your feet, look elsewhere. Very disappointing update to a shoe that's been mostly sensational through the years. NB needs to relabel these, because they are NOT a stability shoe. There are neutral shoes with more support and that's pretty sad.

Shocked me!
17 October 2024

I have never owned a pair of NB and I decided to try the dad shoe brand out as I have been hearing and seeing more about how great NB shoes are. I was looking for an everyday shoe for work, I am on my feet most of the day, walking around helping people. I am absolutely amazed with how comfortable these shoes are. My wife ended up trying a pair and she is also amazed how comfortable they are. I am not planning on running in these but I feel confident that these would be great if I ended up needing to run in these if I forgot my training shoes. I ended up returning my everyday runners, Asics, that I purchased prior to these and got the NB FuelCell SuperComp Trainer and I am in love with those as well. This Shoe is Basically the Ugly V12 (Not a Fan)
10 September 2024

So happy you guys kept the gusseted tongue!!!! But this fit is weird and why did you guys go with this boring bulky tongue? I love the V13/V11 tongue. I’m going to sit this model out. It’s comfortable but not like the previous 860 model. I also fit in a standard width V13 really well but this V14 model feels wider in the mid section and I don’t like it. I don’t understand why you guys went back to this old man look that the (V12) had…. The V13 was so cool and modern looking. Wish you guys would stick with that. Another family member stated the same thing that the new model feels wide in the midsole and not so snug. I’ll just order the V13 on Amazon and wait for the V15 to release. Not impressed with this one at all.
