The technology is based on an extremely thin membrane made of expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE). Its pores are too small for rain to penetrate, yet big enough for perspiration to pass right through. Gore-Tex products have a high waterproof rating (water column) and can withstand up to 28,000 mm of water pressure – more than monsoon rain. The membrane is bonded between an outer fabric and a high-performance lining. Depending on the construction, the result is either a 2-layer, 2.5-layer or 3-layer laminate. Gore-Tex in a 3-layer construction offers a combination of enhanced durability and high breathability, while the 2-layer laminate provides lightweight weather protection.

I’ve had these for over a month now and have used them everyday for general use around town, running and also hiking. They’re super versatile and comfortable. The gore-tex and impermeable bits prevent wet feet when stepping in puddles and in light rain, and add’s warmth too which is good for winter but not ideal for hot days. The fit is good, however it feels a bit uncomfortable on the ankle sometimes as one of the sides is pressing against the ankle bone. Some signs of use already but the build quickly is very good

Any sort of explanation why the Fresh Foam shoes (Fresh Foam X Hierro v7 GTX, 860 v11 and newer, 880 v11 and newer) run small (mostly width) compared to say the 840 v5 which is not in the Fresh Foam line? I literally have to order a full size up in anything within the Fresh Foam line (14 4E) to match the fit of the 840 v5 in a 13 4E. Sure would be helpful if you added something in the descriptions like you did years ago: "runs true to size", "runs small", "runs large" because the chart is no where near accurate. I've had to return three different shoes now because of the discrepancy in sizing so it'd benefit both your business and customers if you were more upfront about your sizing now that more and more of your shoes are Fresh Foam and it's obvious 4E width is not ... MoreAny sort of explanation why the Fresh Foam shoes (Fresh Foam X Hierro v7 GTX, 860 v11 and newer, 880 v11 and newer) run small (mostly width) compared to say the 840 v5 which is not in the Fresh Foam line? Fresh Foam X Hierro v7 GTX Wide Mens Waterproof Trail Running Shoes Eclipse/Blue Groove/Natural Indigo

I have wide feet with high insteps . Normally wear Hoku which are really comfortable but was looking for a water resistant wide fit trail which they don’t do . So opted for these however they are not that wide even with the wide fit 2E and the shoe box is very tight for a high instep foot . I’m hoping they will wear in as at the moment they are not that comfortable although grip from the sole feels good. Don’t know how water resistant they are as it’s been dry. All in all I’m a bit disappointed with them.

Good Winter Running Shoe
21 December 2022

I was looking for something that was waterproof and Gore-Tex is perfect. I also wanted a shoe with great grip for the snow and ice on streets and sidewalks, but also a shoe built closer to a street runner than a trail runner. Basically a waterproof street runner with a better sole and grip.I ended up going with Fresh Foam Hierro V6 GTX last season as my primary outside running shoes during the winter. I was super pleased with it so this year I got the Fresh Foam Hierro V7 GTX as I’m getting close to end of life on the V6.The V6 and V7 are quite similar and the sizing seems to be about the same. There’s a couple of notable differences between the V7 and its predecessor. The V7 has a more aggressive sole and tread patterns. There’s a lot more space between the tread groupings. That’s great for day’s where there’s a thicker later of compacted snow as the tread digs in more. It’s not so great for running on pavement with little accumulation of snow or on ice. Another difference is the colour offerings. The fluorescent green has much better visibility than last year’s black.Overall, a good purchase. I definitely recommend the Hierro V7 GTX for those needing a waterproof shoe for winter running.

Hulk Smash!

Having wide feet I'm extremely limited on options for good Ultra distance kicks. Only NB and Saucony (Peregrine 12s) have shoes wide enough for me. I tried the new Hoka speedgoat 5s but sent them back for the sightly wider v7 after getting blisters (even though it started as the most comfortable ride ever..). The v7 is much lighter than the v6 even with Gore-tex, also doesn't seem like it will get weighed down with water like the v6 did and certainly sheds water quickly with the Gore-tex. Although the v6 is more comfortable, I think NB absolutely made the right move removing some cushion and weight. The v7 feels more like a comfortable Saucony Peregrine 12 which is absolutely perfect for me. All in all, my new go to trail shoe and easily seen from outer space 🚀

Junk shoe, not durable
8 June 2023

Junk in 3 weeks. I walk 10 miles a day landscaping and mowing lawns and outsole is already worn away in less than a month. I would just use these in the woods. Not a hybrid. Goretex is coming out of the toes in weird strings through the rubber toe. Outsole is already coming apart foam is ok, but nit suppotive and makes feet ache unlike nike react foam. Man, The worst $150 i ever spent on shoes.

NIce shoe, but colors need some work
8 December 2022

I've bought various iterations of these trail gore-tex shoes over the years. This is a nice design, but the blue colorway(which I bought)has too much blue in it. Should have more black with the blue. I can't say anything positive about the green design. It's like all gore-tex NB shoes: Go a half size larger than what you normally use from NB. And, even though I don't have very wide feet, the extra wide NB(4E)always works better than anything narrower.

Nice shoe but a step back from previous versions
27 October 2022

I have owned about 5 different versions of the FF X Hierro GTX and they are absolutely my go to everyday shoe from hacking around town to light hikes; with that being said this version V7 just feels different. I don't know if the materials are different or what but the it just feels more "plasticy" and the soles are loud. Overall quality just doesn't seem as good as previous and I would also say the fresh foam doesn't feel as soft or responsive. Good shoes but I feel like the quality in this version has regressed.

Runs a bit small in the toe box
23 December 2022

I run in 1080s in a size 14 which is usually a bit big but I have orthotics that help fill the space. It's a bit tight for me with the Hierro's with the orthotics in the toe box and got a blister on the side of my foot near the big toe.Could be that they run narrow. I'd say these feel more like a 13.5 (which isn't a size made). So maybe get a wider size or size up. I can't size up because it's a jumó to a 15 which would be giant. Also I bought the Eclipse color way. They are bluer (lighter blue) than I expected compared to the photos online.

Warm + Great Traction
23 December 2022

I purchased this shoe as a winter running shoe. The traction has been outstanding on snow covered roads - from firmly packed to 4 inches of power. They keep my feet dry and warm - which is exactly what I was looking for. To improve the shoe I would include an internal stretch fabric on either side of the tongue to improve midfoot fit and improve the weatherproofness. Also, the inside of the upper fabric need a thin brushed layer - something softer.
