I really like these shoes, but the front of one of the shoes was really creased and noticeably different than the other. I tried to return them to a New Balance store and I even called customer service, but they said they were final sale and there were no returns. It does not state that any where on this page. I'd even exchange them for a new pair but customer service has yet to respond or reach out to me or offer me any discount on the existing pair i purchase. Just down right shameful and not what i would expect from a company like New Balance.

These are no doubt the worst sneakers I've ever owned. I was excited for their release and purchased as soon as available, but they run large and didn't fit well. Since there's a no return policy, I figured I'd just get used to it. After a day or so of wearing them, I noticed the sides separating and reached out to customer service whose only reply was that there are no returns. Now after two months of wear, the front tread has separated from the shoe. For the price, I thought these would be good quality and last me a while, but instead they're the cheapest shoe I've worn. Save yourself the disappointment and don't buy them!

I'm so, SO happy the OG 990 was recently offered up again as a general release. I, too, turn 40 this yr and I've always admired these. The "Version 1" SEs are outstanding, so are these GRs. The QUALITY of the materials simply has to be beheld in-hand & on-foot to be believed. My words cannot do this soft, smooth & plush suede justice, and the Vibram sole will last for miles. I've always admired the straightforward styling and clean lines; it's an elegantly simple & smart looking shoe. And now having worn mine for several days, I can vouch the old tech was ahead of it's time & the 990 is a comfortable all-day shoe. Surprising, in a way, due to its age, but the dual density cushioning is both soft & firm. I got these this morning after looking at them for months online and I am in awe. The quality control is perfect I can't find any flaws. I saw conflicting opinions about how these fit but I went true to my usual New Balance size in 997H, 574, and fresh foam Roav the fit is perfect. Length is spot on and the width leaves my toes plenty of room. I've been wanting some made in USA new balances for a while and these popped out to me as soon as I saw them announced. Hopefully I'll round out my collection with some more soon!
Great shoes. It's my second pair of made in USA after using my previous ones for almost 4 years.The materials and lining are nice quality. The inner soles are plushy as expected from NB.My biggest gripe is the leather piece that extends at the back toward your ankles.It digs into your ankles causing chaffing. Strange design choice considering the cheaper models don't have this issue.Other than that I'd recommend them but try them first.
I have several pairs of 990v2's that I use for casual wear. Lightweight, comfortable, and well made. They fit to size and look great. The recently introduced grey/blue model, which is actually olive and tan, is attractive and looks great with shorts or jeans. You can wear these shoes all day standing, walking, running errands, traveling, etc., with comfort. Try a pair of these new retro's. You won't be disappointed.
I am 78 years old. I run 4 miles every other morning and lift weights on the mornings that I don't run. I have been running for 64 years with only minor changes in my schedule. The only time I change is to get ready for a 10k or 15k etc. I have used various shoes over the years, but in 1977 I found that I could run about 500 miles with the NB 990 series but could only get about 300-350 miles out of other brands or even other NB shoes. I have been 6'2" and about 210 lbs since I was 18 years old. I maintained that weight throughout my life in the Marine Corp, 57 years in law enforcement with the past 5 years mainly in retirement with some part time assignments etc. I have now gained to 220 lbs. and my running is slower but I still make it. These 990v1's are made of high quality materials. I have owned a pair of these a few years back that were identical except for the red accents. I realize that when these originally released in '82 that they were the best running shoes on the market. Now you'd be hard pressed to find someone who would actually run in them as shoes now have more technology. They are more comfortable than most shoes. Definitely more comfortable than the 574, as they should be at nearly $100 more. When compared to other 990 models these are average. In my opinion the 993 is the best shoe ever made. These are not as good as the 993, 990v4 or v5. These are similar to the 992 in the way they feel. The 990 line being made in USA is the number one reason I will always where them. The price is always worth it.
I purchased this Item as a special gift for my father. Turns out the the shoes are slightly too big (half a size to large) for him... I contacted New Balance and was advised no exchange policy. Shoes can not be returned or refunded so we are stuck with a pair of shoes that can't be used. I've never heard of a policy where if the product is unworn and within a specified time frame that it cannot be exchanged for a different size. I feel like that makes for a horrible customer experience, and makes it easier to chose brands that have a better policy for its customer in these situations.
Shoes look nice in photos but in person they look like a home project. The built of the toe is super lumpy and look like they have been wet before and Or something. The front section of the shoe is shorter than what I'm use to for NB shoes vs the photos they look like a bad knock off. The blue outlining colors on the shoe are a lot darker and make the shoe look different than what I was expecting. Most of the edges of all of the leather or super frayed and it looks horrible.
