This year I didn't do any full marathons but I did do one half marathon event and several club runs above half marathon length in training. From what I can see so far, the soles are tough and hard wearing, compared to for example new balance Fresh Foam. Mostly for me that's an advantage because I think the shoes will last a long time (I try to get 2000km or close to it on each pair).Pros: For the price and perceived length of use due to hard sole, very good value.Available in 4E widthCons: The hard sole might result in joint fatigue due to poor shock absorption. Up to 28km or so it didn't seem a problem but I haven't tried yet for full marathon distance.Recommendation: Even if you prefer more cushion such as Fresh Foam or Hoka style shoes, get a pair on sale to ... MoreThis year I didn't do any full marathons but I did do one half marathon event and several club runs above half marathon length in training. From what I can see so far, the soles are tough and hard wearing, compared to for example new balance Fresh Foam. In order to put the shoes on, I had to remove the laces from the last two slits! It's the second pair of NB shoes I bought lately that are like that! Then I have to double tie them and there's WAY too much left over. The shoe tends to rub my foot where those last two slits are. They are not holes for shoe laces which is strange. Not something I have noticed with other brands.Very disappointing!I also have to search for shoes that tie.I've been buying shoes on line for a lot of years. Lately it's been hard to find a shoe I like.

A few days after giving this shoe a "3" rating, the "pull tab" on the back collapsed into the shoe. I can't pull it back up into place. It feels like it may be made of cardboard that is now crushed. They will be in tomorrow's trash. New Balance shoes have always been top quality, these may be "irregulars" or an attempt by New Balance to sell a decent shoe at a bargain price. They are a bargain as far as price, but they are nowhere close the quality of previous New Balance shoes I have owned. This was my first purchase from Joe's New Balance, and I will not purchase again unless they offer free refunds.

I am a teacher/coach and bi-vocational pastor. I am on my feet all day long. These shoes stand up to the torture test I put them through, yet they are light enough to let me forget that I'm wearing shoes. I don't like wearing the same pair of shoes every day, so I have several pairs of New Balance shoes to wear. These are one of my favorites because they give good support, are wide enough for my feet, and are very light. I literally wear through the upper materials and buy another pair of the same ones.
So far, I am very happy with these shoes. They fit well and are comfortable. They are more breathable than most shoes, which I appreciate since my feet tend to get sweaty. Shipping was fast and free.Prior to this order, there was another shoe that I wanted to order. I was excited about that one as it was even a better deal. Unfortunately, after placing the order (twice), I was notified that the order was cancelled by Joe's since they must not have have enough inventory. That was a disappointment, but at least I found another shoe to order at a decent price.....
I've actually bought multiple pairs to stock up with and gave one pair to my dad. I also bought the latest 1080v12 but prefer these because I'm not a fan of the rocker style. These just do their job and have good enough spring for beginner-intermediate runners like me looking to shape up better. In the past, If I've wanted more cushion to absorb more shock, there never seemed to be enough spring for me. These however bounce through running form great and seem to last great for their price point. Still trying to get through first pair after 3 months and apart from some dirt, looks like they'll last a decent trot.
I love NB shoes for they're comfort and wide sizes. I suffered a shattered heel about 3 yrs ago and ever since I have the hardest time with shoes. I've bought so many different types of sneakers and boots as well as insoles trying to find something with enough cushion and that isn't to tight and New Balance shoes are the best I've found so far as sneakers goes. So this 520 is nice and light and has lots of foam but the insole is the worst I've seen in any of my NB shoes. What is making this a deal breaker is the padded upper heel area has no support and ever step my heel lifts and rubs. It's very cushy and thick but getting my foot in the shoes and it easily collapsed and doesn't retain its shape. If the back of the shoe was just a tiny bit taller and not so thick I ... MoreI love NB shoes for they're comfort and wide sizes. It's very cushy and thick but getting my foot in the shoes and it easily collapsed and doesn't retain its shape. If the back of the shoe was just a tiny bit taller and not so thick I think they would be perfect. These shoes also run a half size small as my big toe on left foot touches the front of the shoe.
My daughter has super wide feet AND major sensory issues. So as you can imagine, shoes are an ongoing struggle for us. These are perfect, shes been wearing variations of these for a couple years and they have been a godsend. She will not wear socks in any way, shape, or form- so as you can imagine these get pretty stinky. They wash very nicely. This does mean they wear out faster than they normally would, but most people don't wash their shoes in the machine as often as we have to.
New Balance is the ONLY place that carries tennis shoes that fit my grandson. He has an extra wide foot in addition to the needed support these shoes provide. I ordered this particular pair online but only because it wasn't convenient to go the the Mall of Georgia store we normally go to. The Buford store has unmatched customer service and has always been a big help fitting my children and grandchildren. They are the best all around!!! I have always definitely gotten my money's worth!!!
I wear these only a few hours per day, during wrestling practice. I have very wide feet and cannot tolerate wrestling shoes, but wanted something that stays in the room to keep things clean. They are very comfortable, and lightweight. I swapped out the laces for elastic laces to slip them on and off easily. The only complaint I would have is the back of the shoe (behind my heel / achilles) loses it's shape easily. It feels almost like the padding inside moves a bit. I can work it back into place, but with my desire to slip them on and off I am concerned this may be an issue over time.
