Oof where to start. First they are not a good looking shoe (I was hoping the feel and functionality would help overlook this and just never looking down). Second, this thing feels like a boot. If you like Metcon 6s, Nano 2.0, or Nano 4.0 you're probably going to hate these shoes as I do. Third, the middle sole is carved out for the rope rubber and it makes them feel less stable for lifting because there's noting there to support you're foot on the ground. I'm sure they work great for some people, but they feel heavy and bulky which is not what I look for when I workout. Day to day just going to the store or getting the mail, probably fine. For working out I would compare them to being a kid and putting on adult shoes and klip klopping around thinking it's funny ... MoreOof where to start. Extremely disappointed in the quality of this shoe. Had my original metcons since day one and had absolutely no issues with them and finally decided to upgrade. This shoe was ruined after less than an hour of using. This shoes heel can take absolutely NO running....I used this shoe once and the rubber on the heel already broke off. Ran less than a half mile to the gym and it was messed up. This is a great shoe for crossfit/lifting only. Terrible for anything else.

Have always loved Nikes and they are always comfortable. The Metcon 9 just isn’t. The ankle slot is too far back so my ankle is constantly rubbing against the shoe. The “air cushion” in the heel is not a cushion. It’s hard plastic with ZERO give. Wide toebox is nice, and the shoe looks cool, but even walking in this shoe is no fun because the ankle/heel/back section of the shoe is so stiff. I wear these for lifting, but not much else…and I don’t look forward to putting them on. Even after breaking in they aren’t getting better. Am almost to the point of just donating them and buying something else.

I appreciated the sleek appearance of the shoe, as it made me feel more motivated and confident during my workouts. When it comes to comfort, the Nike Metcon 9 did not disappoint. The shoe features ample padding around the collar and tongue, which helped prevent discomfort and rubbing. Additionally, the mesh upper allowed for decent airflow, ensuring my feet stayed cool during exercise. The fit was snug yet comfortable, offering the right amount of support without feeling overly restrictive. As a beginner, I found the Nike Metcon 9 to be user-friendly. Putting them on and taking them off was a breeze, thanks to the traditional lace-up system. The shoe felt secure on my feet, providing a sense of stability during my workouts. I appreciated the simplicity and functionality of the design, as it allowed me to focus on my exercises rather than dealing with complicated shoe features.Although I lack experience in advanced training techniques, I found the Nike Metcon 9 to be more than capable of handling my beginner-level workouts. The shoe's traction was reliable, keeping me steady during light cardio exercises and basic weightlifting movements. The cushioning in the midsole provided a comfortable base, ensuring a soft landing when jumping or performing plyometric exercises. The flexibility in the forefoot allowed for natural movement and prevented any feeling of restriction. For a beginner like myself, the Nike Metcon 9 training shoes proved to be a solid choice. They provided the comfort, support, and ease of use that I was seeking in my fitness footwear. While I may not have fully tested their advanced features, I felt confident and comfortable wearing them during my workouts. The stylish design was an added bonus, making me feel more motivated to hit the gym. If you're new to working out and looking for a reliable and beginner-friendly training shoe, the Nike Metcon 9 is certainly worth considering.
The shoes are attractive. I received multiple unsolicited comments about how cool they looked. I have a wide foot and these shoes felt very accommodating. They are somewhat stiff with less padding than I would have preferred on the sides and bottom- could probably benefit from a gel insert. The rubber on the sole of the shoe felt a little stiff and was a little noisier on hard surfaces than a typical sneaker. The shoes felt a little more like a dress sneaker than a sports sneaker. I wouldn’t have wanted to run in them or participate in a sport while wearing them. That said, my feet did not hurt wearing them and didn’t irritate my ankles or toes. These shoes would be a good fit for someone who enjoys a nice looking sneaker.
First pair of Metcons. Usually, I wear running shoes for my strength training sessions, as they’re very versatile for me. I’m fairly new to the crosstraining scene. I got into the crosstraining world during the pandemic, and I’ve always used running shoes then up until I tried the Metcon 9 Flyease, and I am IMPRESSED.FIT: True to Size. Size-wise, if you have regular to narrow feet like myself, going with your regular Nike size would be the best bet. I had just the right amount of toe allowance for foot splay (one thumb’s width). The Flyease feature is just as it sounds! You just slide your foot in without having to bend down and use your hands!FEEL: They feel light and breathable. I wish they had some sort of those signature Nike cushioning foams to take them ... MoreFirst pair of Metcons. I wish they had some sort of those signature Nike cushioning foams to take them over the top (Zoom Air or even React). Otherwise, in terms of responsiveness and comfort, they’re average.DESIGN: The shoe is constructed with mesh and a liner underneath. The shoe still well ventilated, and the upper material is flexible for a gray range of movements. The stripe accents along the medial toe look awesome! I also like the how the Swoosh is sectioned off due to the lateral counterpiece.COLORWAY: Black/Grey. Classic. I don’t really have to worry about getting these dirty. I wish there was a brighter color.STYLE: Of course, they’ll be used for crosstraining. However, you can wear these out to run your errands or even casually.SELLING POINTS: The EASE of putting them on! I really like how versatile the shoe is. You can use them all your routine exercises in crosstraining then wear them to go get groceries and other errands.IMPROVEMENT: One major area of improvement would be to utilize a more response foam/set-up. Forefoot Zoom Air and React combination would be incredible in a Metcon!OVERALL, the Metcon 9 has me impressed for my first crosstraining specific shoe. Their EASE of putting them on just makes me want to get into my workout already! They’re lightweight and breathable and can easily handle a great range of movements and exercises. However, one thing that they lack is that responsiveness that I’ve grown accustomed to with other running sneakers. Otherwise, I can finally give my running shoes a rest from crosstraining with these until Nike produces Metcon with my ideal set-up!
I purchased the metcon 9 over the 8 due to price and availability so we will see how these hold up. Originally bought two pair of the metcon 8's each lasting six months before a hole would form in the middle front and the material on the heel started to come off. Also the 8's had an issue of the sole separating from the shoe in the front so I wanted to give the 9's a chance to see if they hold up a little longer. I'm a delivery driver for fedex so I'm on my feet up to 15 miles a day, 10+ hours a day so my shoes see a lot of use. I understand people typically use these shoes for just running or working out and if that's the case they may last substantially longer. Overall I continue to buy these shoes because they are the most comfortable shoes compared to all the ... MoreI purchased the metcon 9 over the 8 due to price and availability so we will see how these hold up. My nephew is 12 and still struggles to tie his shoes. It’s not that he doesn’t know how, he just has some dexterity issues in his hands. As he’s going into the 7th grade, I wanted him to have shoes that looked like everyone else’s sneakers, but that he wouldn’t have to keep tying. We looked EVERYWHERE and he decided on these. He loves them. I will say, I am disappointed that they still tie. It makes sense that they do so the shoe is the right tightness on the foot, but I just assumed they had elastic laces for some reason. He loves these though. In true Nike fashion they run an entire size smaller than most other shoe brands. This is his first ever name brand pair of sneakers because of his limitations and I hope you continue to expand your accessible shoe collection!
Best fit and adaptability from a training shoe that I've had in a long time. Creates a super stable base when I'm doing strength training. Virtually no heel compression during lifts (more isometric and accesory vs. oly lifting). Forefoot has lots of traction. Cushioning and padding throughout is also very comfortable.During dynamic movement (HIIT and plyos) there's solid responsiveness. Only issue I run into is a bit of pressure pointing on the outside of the ball of my foot during some explosive lateral movements but this is very limited. Would certainly buy again and recommend as a general training shoe for anyone who's integrating light or heavy weight into their routine.
I am primarily a runner (3-5 runs/10 miles per week) who is looking to get in some additional at-home cardio and strength training, and needed a solid shoe to help get me through backyard and basement workouts (primarily HIIT). The Nike Metcon 9 fit the bill. I expect a lot out of my shoes, and sometimes struggle to find something that balances comfort with strength. After a few weeks wearing these regularly, I think I've found a middle ground. It's so much different from the running shoes I'm used to working out in, and provides a lot more support than I was expecting. The wide base would likely work for someone with a wider foot, but the low cut keeps the shoes from feeling bulky. They look exactly as I expected them to when I ordered them.OTHER NOTES: I would not recommend these shoes for running due to the flat bottom. These are best for gym workouts.
