A Well-Constructed, Solid Running Shoe but Not a Showstopper

My husband really liked the cushion. The upper is fairly flexible and light, but not as breathable as some. The toe area was plenty wide and felt comfortable for both of us, and I had no issues with fit. My husband found that the side of the lacing area dug into his foot quite a bit—if you have a particularly wide foot and arch you may need to size up slightly. The shaping around the heel feels stiff, and it did rub my heel if my sock is not positioned correctly—not sure this is one I’d want to wear all day. Now, the design: The detailing is simple and looks nice but is not particularly eye catching or outstanding in terms of aesthetics. A simple, clean design and solid option, not flashy or particularly unique. The ribbon detailing along the laces is a nice touch. I did feel that the upper was somewhat shapeless and the look was a little clunky and made my foot look wider/bigger.Overall, this is a well-constructed, nice-looking shoe, but it likely wouldn’t be a top pick for me. My husband was more favorable—if he sized up and the lacing area fit his foot better it would be a good running shoe for him.

Absolutely amazing engineering.

I want to preface this by saying that I usually do not write reviews unless someone asks. I am writing this review because this is my all-time favorite shoe and I buy a lot of shoes. I own the Motiva and the Nike Invincible 3. I love them both. They feel similar, like walking on a cloud or a marshmallow. I use this shoe for walking mostly. I average 10,000 steps per day. I used them in Tokyo for 4 days of seemingly non-stop walking. I averaged about 22,000 steps per day. My feet and my legs were not tired the next day, but I did wear them with compression socks. No pain felt anywhere else. I would buy these shoes again without question. I hope they make more colorways for this shoe. I wear an 11.5 and I found them to be true to size. Great breathability.

At first when he pulled them out of the box, he wasn’t keen on the style because the heel is really thick, but once they’re on, it isn’t obvious at all. He’s been wearing them to the gym the past week or so and has loved them! He mostly lifts and does some light cardio on the elliptical and has relayed to me that these are great for both. This shoe runs true to size and the 9.5 (his usual size), has been fitting perfectly. The design is all around great. Aesthetically speaking, I love the wavy sole because it gives it character in a sea of gym shoes. The Motiva also has the right amount of support and he loves the shock absorption. I can’t speak too much on durability yet because he’s only been wearing them for a couple weeks, exclusively to the gym, but I’m happy to do a follow up down the road! He is notoriously hard on his footwear (and everything else), so I’m hoping they can hold up. He says they’re super comfortable, so I’m sure, at some point, he will start wearing them as a primary shoe instead of just gym wear. That will be the true test of comfort and durability. As of right now, they are perfect in every way, according to him.

Motion Transfer Comfort
13 May 2023

I liked the fit although maybe a little bit big on me. I wear a 10 in sneakers but I had about a half inch of toe room. That did not effect the comfort and performance of the shoe at all. I loved the motion transfer feel of this shoe, although it takes some getting used to at first, as they do tilt backwards because of the heel and padding design. Once you get used to that, it's like walking on a cushion that moves your feet along when you walk. This is a designed Walk Shoe, so it's great for mall walking, taking a stroll outside or anything you really want to do with them. I liked the motion transfer feel of this shoe the most, it was definitely something you could feel propelling your feet forward. I don't think I would you change anything about the shoe, maybe the back heel tip, but I think that's part of the design of why they transfer the motion so well.

Motiva tennis shoes. Good shoe for moving
4 April 2023

I chose this shoes on whim for a new shoe for walking. I am new father and frequently take our daughter on long walks.I really enjoy these shoes for a few reasons. They are lightweight and have a good Cushion to them which makes for a good walking shoe and general moving around shoe. The main unique feature on this shoe which really was the reason I like this shoe is the sole. It's unique convex sole which almost makes you move forward while wearing them. I have not wore them too much running so can't say for sure if it'd feel the same as walking, but for walking it is a great shoe to get you moving! One thing to note, since the convex design is unique it is not something your foot/muscles will be used to at first. It took me a few times wearing then to get used to the motion but now a couple dozen times going on long walks I don't notice it. Additionally, because of the design I would classify this shoe best for moving and not for lounging or simply walking around the house. All and all I appreciate the design, functionality and genral aesthetic of the shoe and what it has done for my walks. I think I would continue to wear my running shoes for my runs but this will be my walking shoe for the future.

Nice and Comfortable Shoe
19 May 2023

I recently got the Nike Motiva shoes in the black and white colorway. There are a lot of features that I really enjoy about this jogging shoe and at the top of the list is how comfortable and supportive they are. My first few times trying them out, I noticed how well they gripped the pavement. The hump near the back of the shoe, while also giving extra cushion for my foot, also feels a bit like I'm walking on marshmallows in that particular spot. Hopefully that will go away as the shoe breaks in more but is worth mentioning that it might take some adjustment. I also noticed my heel catches when going down the stairs due to the protrusion which is a bit annoying. It's nice to have the extra support but visually it is a bit strange to have it stick out so far. There ...Ā MoreI recently got the Nike Motiva shoes in the black and white colorway. It's nice to have the extra support but visually it is a bit strange to have it stick out so far. There is also a lot of white on the midsole and I do worry about it looking dirty fast.Even though I'm not in love with the styling, I'm not going to deduct any stars as the soles are very cushy and the rise at the back of the shoe does make it easier to take consistent strides. In fact, I feel like my stride is longer so it gives me more confidence to go a longer distance. I also appreciate how breathable these are as the mesh vents and cools my feet quickly. Which is especially nice to have plenty of airflow as we head into warmer weather. These Nike Motiva's are also comfortable for daily wear. Sometimes shoes can run too narrow for my feet but I do not have that issue with these shoes. They seem to run true to size. I like the wider section at the ball of my feet and I feel very stable wearing them. I have to occasionally stand for long periods of time on a cement floor at my job and these have helped my feet immensely. They feel pampered rather than sore and exhausted at the end of the day. Overall, for comfort and function, I would highly recommend these shoes.

When picking up any amounts of speed I understood the reason for the thick(er) soles as a way of forcing you into a proper running stride.I would recommend these shoes to someone who was NEW to the running world. This shoe will force them onto the balls of their feet while simultaneously giving them additional cushiony support. These would not be ones I would recommend to the avid, everyday, runners. I would definitely like to feel a lot less sole and shoe for those that are comfortable with their stride and are not new to the running world.

Something to get used to...

I am writing this review on behalf of my husband, whom these shoes were for. My husband is about 6'3" and 215lbs. He is a creature of comfort and fairly particular on what he wears. Since he is tall, the thickness and waviness of the sole made him feel as though his center of gravity was a bit challenged. He described it as almost a "rocking" sensation. While the shoe felt comfortable and durable, he wasn't expecting the "rocking" feeling of the sole of the shoe. As mentioned, he is a very predictable and particular person when it comes to what he likes, this is to no fault of the shoe itself. He did say the shoe fit great, and did not feel too small or too big for his size 13 feet. He feels as though this is a shoe he could probably wear all day, comfort wise, but it would definitely take some getting used to. The style of the shoe is black and white, a crisp and clean look that is versatile enough to wear on a run, or with a pair of jeans. It's a great shoe if this is the look and feel you are going for, but my husband is more of the predictable type and we took one star off because it is something he would have to get used to wearing, which he sees as a bit of an inconvenience. We prefer a shoe to "feel right" and as an extension of the foot, not something to train our treads to get used to. Another reason we knocked off a star is because the shoe looks somewhat like an orca. It was the first thing he thought of when looking at them and slipping them on. "Killer whale" vibes on a guy that dresses for comfort over fashion. The larger sole and design of the shoe is a bit trendy for us, but would honestly be perfect for a person looking for that kind of thing since the shoe is otherwise comfortable, durable, and versatile.

I’ll be honest, I have waited as long as possible to write this review, as I feel like my opinions and experiences have changed (for the better) since I first started wearing these shoes and have come to appreciate them as I wear them more and more. The first thing I noticed about the Motiva’s was their look, and they look good! Combined with the lowkey branding, I feel like my shoes can make a statement without feeling like a walking billboard. Combined with the lowkey branding, I feel like my shoes can make a statement without feeling like a walking billboard. The materials are fantastic, with the upper being super breathable, and the thick sole providing lots of cushion. Those materials lead into how comfortable they are around my foot. Everything just fits, and they feel fantastic.Where I feel I got off on the wrong foot, was with the sole. The sole is slightly curved, being thicker in the middle under the arch of my foot and thinner at the heel and toes and creates almost a rocking sensation when standing. Additionally, the sole has a ripple wave pattern, that provides a slightly different sensation than a more traditional pattern. As a result, I felt slightly unsettled in the shoes at first; almost a little off balance as I was getting used to how they feel.I’m over that now.As I kept wearing the shoes, I realized that the curved design was helping keep pressure off the balls of my feet and heel. I started to feel more grounded in them, and the slightly curved design really kept me from ā€œploppingā€ my super flat feet against the ground. I now almost feel propelled forward on every stable step, and I felt more cushion in my step than other shoes. As I continued to wear them, I have found myself enjoying them more and more, with the comfort of the upper now being matched with the sole.As a result, these have become my go-to daily shoes, and have no issues wearing them all day. The weather hasn’t been cooperating as much as I would have wanted to get outside and run or hike, or even hit the pickleball court, but I look forward to as we continue to move into the spring and I continue to feel more and more confident in these shoes.I’m not sure if I would change anything in the design of the shoe, other than potentially making the curve of the sole slightly less pronounced to speed up getting comfortable in them.In summary, the Nike Motiva’s are fantastically comfortable shoes. If you’re not used to a slightly curved sole, you may have an adjustment period, but it will be worth it!
